What Freedom Means to me Freedom, a word our country was built on, the definition is the power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint but for me and my fellow Americans it means so much more. Freedom is present everywhere, the documents that shape our government are a strong example of freedom, freedom is the reason why we can appreciate a considerable amount of rights.
Many critical documents in America are immense examples of freedom. The Bill of Rights is a document that gives us the freedom to bear arms, peacefully assemble, also gave us the freedom of speech. When you ask people what freedom is they may respond that freedom is when you can do whatever you want to do at whatever time. Mostly this will be the response of kids and young adults. But this definition of freedom is incorrect. Freedom is when we are allowed to have power of right to act without violating other people's freedoms or rights. The most effective tools for establishing and preserving freedom are strong government and constitution. A quote that can help out the claim comes from the Declaration of independence “We hold these truths to be self evident: that all men are created equal: that they are endowed by their creator with unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”.

To American’s freedom means many different things depending on who you are, due to the fact that everyone has their own opinions. To American’s, freedom could mean having the right to do things that they want to do with rules or as the Webster Dictionary states it “ the quality or state of being free;...”. I believe that the Preamble to the Constitution is the statement that provides the most driving representation of America today because it talks about “establish justice, insure domestic tranquility…”, with the way the world is today I feel we need more of these things.
True freedom is not something that can be given. It is something that every single person must discover for themselves. If a person were set free, though still thought of themselves as a slave, they are a slave. America is a country that thrives on freedom. Though numerous people throughout the United States take this privilege for granted.

It is the power to determine action without restraint and the exemption from external control, interference, and regulation. Americans, these days, commonly regard their society as the freest and the best in the world. Their understanding of freedom has been shaped and based upon the founding fathers’ belief that all people are equal and that the role of the government is to protect each person’s basic “inalienable” rights. All around the world people talk about freedom; America has more freedom than Russia, twenty-one years old as more freedom than a fifteen year old. What does “freedom” mean? Many have different definitions of “freedom”. For some it could be the freedom to speak and act as you want and others it could be to go where ever you want.
Freedom means different things to different people. It can mean a chance to vote, freedom to worship, or being able to speak your mind without fear. Freedom is the singular concept that the United States has embraced as a nation since July 4, 1776. The United States would not have the freedom that its citizens have today without the sacrifice of the thousands of lives that have died, and the sacrifice of the millions that fight every single day to keep our country safe and independent. After carefully concluding the reading done over this semester one is able to clearly understand the confinement these early Americans felt and their decision to achieve a form of freedom. Freedom has always existed but it is the history of this nation that will define what actions freedom takes.
Freedom has a large range of meaning. The encyclopedia Britannica defines freedom as “the quality or state of being free, and the absence of necessity, coercion, or constraint in choice or action” (Britannica). In the American society there is a lot of emphasis on freedom, and the right to be free, but one must question to what extent we are truly “free”.
A concept of freedom (or liberty) has been the foundation of the United States since its founding in 1776. After all, its Declaration of Independence states that every citizen deserves the rights to “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness”. However, “Liberty” doesn’t just mean a literal freedom from captivity, or the right to live independently from the rule of a monarch. The Constitution preserves multiple different types of Liberty, including the freedom of speech, freedom of expression, freedom of the press, and many more.
The constitution of the United States of America gives me the right to freedom because I am a United States citizen. I consider "freedom" to be my right to express myself in any way I choose. Freedom is defined as "having liberty of action or thought, independent". "Self-governed or not controlled by an outside party" is another definition of freedom. Freedom has a different meaning to each individual thus making it hard to find a clear concise definition.
