In the Old Italian folk tale Cinderella by Giambattista Basile, Cinderella finds that with patience everything eventually comes together. After Cinderella’s father’s untimely death, she had no other option but to live with her evil stepmother and her horrid stepsisters. Cinderella was mistreated and made to do chores around the house by her stepmother because “she could not bear the good qualities of this pretty girl, and the less because they made her own daughters appear the more odious (Perrault).” She was envied so much Cinderella was not allowed to attend the ball that was made specifically for the prince to find his princess. With the help of her fairy godmother she was able to attend the ball and wore the most beautiful dress along with glass slippers. With one dance the prince had fallen in love, but their moment of happiness was short lived because Cinderella had to flee from the ball leaving only her glass slipper behind. Being that the slipper was made of glass it was transparent, meaning that light can easily pass through so that the object can be seen effortlessly. The use of the transparent glass slippers was to show sincerity.
