Dante uses several symbols of sin and righteousness in Canto 1. The three beasts symbolizes different sins: the leopard , the lion, and the “She-Wolf”. Dante came across all three of them, scared out of his mind he strayed out of his path. Dante was trying to get rid of the three beast, So Virgil helped him to where he could. Virgil was like a lost soul that was helping Dante. Virgil was there like a guardian angel looking and watching over Dante making sure he was in hell safe. I think that Dante should’ve stayed in the right path instead of straying off. Virgil was there helping Dante by going through hell in order to be back on the path of righteousness. Going through hell would help open Dante’s eyes. By that being done Dante should not sin. Although, its impossible not to sin because we are only human. Us as humans sin a lot so Dante would have to think twice and make the right choices. To start off to describe why was Dante in the Darkwoods , I have a clue that he was probably looking for something. More than likely Dante was looking for some clues to get to hell. Virgil was Dante’s protector helping and guiding him through hell to where he could. Getting away from the three beast was the main priority that Dante had in mind, in my opinion. We as human sin a lot so just like the leopard, the lion, and the “she-wolf” . The leopard is lust, the lion pride, and the “she-wolf” greed. Sin is committed every day we live but the most important thing is to know is that we need to think about our actions before we actually do it.
