What Does Integrity Mean

Integrity is the quality of having strong moral and ethical standards - it also means to be whole and cohesive. As I was growing up, the image of a lotus flower always resurfaced during difficult times, and I've interpreted it as sort of a discrete emblem of myself. Thus, I decided for the lotus to serve as my analogy of what has built my own integrable nature.

STRUCTURE
Muddy water - A lotus flower begins to grow underneath the bottom of a murky, muddy pool of water. From this saturated overcast, the flower gradually emerges from the surface, sprouting into a well-formed blossom. During the night, the lotus closes and sinks beneath the water. I'm frequently told that the more opaque and muddy the water, the more beautiful the bud will grow. Just as this is the literal environment for the flower, the muddy water is significant of my environment. All humans are born in a world where there is suffering, and suffering is fundamental to the human experience. Suffering is what makes us stronger, and this increase of strength helps us banish negativity and the temptation of evil. They have a very sturdy exterior, with small, pointed "dots" along the entire length of the stem. A lotus flower's leaves are a lot like a textile: fibrous and tightly interlaced. Due to this construction, it can maintain its shape. While it is very flexible, it is difficult to break, which I feel is representative of my friends and my boyfriend, who have always been my support outside of home. Whether they assist me in my aspirations (art, language-learning, changing life habits) or they simply lend their attention to me when I'm in a period of hardship.
