What causes asthma, exacerbations can be caused by multiple different triggers as I have kind of mentioned already. Your body becomes sensitive to certain things. These substances and conditions are your triggers, and can be anything from allergens, dust, mites and small particles. Exactly where asthma comes from is still a mystery. Some people have asthma from birth. “It isn't clear why some people get asthma and others don't, but it's probably due to a combination of environmental and genetic (inherited) factors.” (Mayo Clinic.org) One theory as to where asthma comes from is that it might be inherited from your parents. Another thing that may cause asthma are respiratory infections when you are young. Allergies and viral infections may also
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the bronchial mucosa and hyperreactive bronchial tubes. Its etiology has been linked to both genetic and environmental factors. Several genes, including those that influence the production of proteins and cells involved in the immune response (such as interleukins, eosinophils, mast cells) have been linked with asthma. A decreased number of T-regulatory cells is also associated with asthma. Environmental factors linked with asthma include exposure to allergens, urban residence, and smoking (or exposure to secondary smoke). Recurrent respiratory tract viral infections may also contribute to the development of asthma. Decreased exposure to certain infectious organisms during early childhood, and the consequent underdevelopment of the immune response, can also lead to the development of asthma--this is known as the hygiene hypothesis (McCance & Huether, 2014, p. 1263-4).
Asthma is as a result of allergic reaction that leads to blockage of bronchitis. This reduces the air flow in and out of someone's lungs. The chest feels blocked which leads to wheezing. Cold air, dust, pollen dust, humidity, some food preservatives, certain medications, stress and elevated emotions are triggers to bouts of asthmatic
Based on Ignatavicius and Workman, asthma is usually a chronic condition that causes obstruction. The pathophysiology behind asthma, is the hypersensitivity of the tissue in the lungs. When a trigger comes in to the lungs, the airway overreacts to it, and causes excessive swelling and mucous productions, which constrict the airway and makes it difficult for the individual to breath (2016). There are different types of trigger that can initiate an asthma attacks, and it also varies per individuals. Some of the triggers are allergens, dust mites, outdoor air
Asthma is a disease that affects your lungs. It causes repeated episodes of wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness, and nighttime or early morning coughing. Asthma can be controlled by taking medicine and avoiding the triggers that can cause an attack. You must also remove the triggers in your environment that can make your asthma worse.
What is asthma? • Disease of the lungs that makes it hard to breathe. • Breathing tubes in the lungs that carry oxygen tighten. • This makes it hard for air to pass through the lungs.
The Australian average statistic for people that smoke is 23.3%. The employed adult average statistic is 84%. Knowing this we can roughly estimate that in the average workplace 1 out of 4-5 people will smoke. The Australian average for people that suffer from asthma is 18%. This makes 1 out of 5 people in the workplace will suffer from some form of asthma. Unfortunately, having smokers allowed to smoke in and around the premise of a workplace limits the interactions the asthma sufferers can have with other workmates as well as limiting the areas the sufferers may go due to the thick, tar soaked air.
Holden calls up Carl Luce to go drinks instead of dinner despite the fact Holden “called him a fat-assed phony” since Holden wanted to have a relief of his loneliness. In the meantime, Holden goes to the Radio City Music Hall to be annoyed by The Rockettes phony pre-movie dance. Until the kettle drummer comes to the stage and is the exact opposite, remembering how Allie and he agreed that the man seems to enjoy what he is doing. Watching the movie, about the war, Holden thinks about D.B.’s experience during World War II. Telling himself that he could never be a soldier and that if a war came again, he would be the one to volunteer to sit on top of an atomic bomb. When thinking of war, Holden is being selfish since the first thing that comes
The exact cause of asthma isn 't known, but has been found to run in families. The National Heart, Lungs, Blood Institute published an article stating that, a person is more likely to develop asthma if they have an inherited predisposition to the condition and are sensitive to allergens. Researchers think some genetic and environmental factors interact to cause
The main purpose of this article was for the authors to run an experiment to find out if there is any correlation between children who are admitted to the hospital for asthma exacerbations and where they live in proximity to major roadways. By doing this, they found that there appears to be a positive relationship between asthma occurrences and traffic exposures. This could be a more serious problem in heavily populated cities that have a lot of people living in a small area combined with busy roads. For a health care provider and others who work with a multicultural population, it is important to be aware of this link and other possible factors that could potentially cause asthma. By being aware of this study, nurses can potentially identify and treat patients that have symptoms of asthma much quicker.
In this assignment, I will be demonstrating a gap analysis on my current workplace. I currently work for a company by the name of “All Weather Windows Commercial Ltd”. I’ve been hired on as the Health and Safety Advisor and been employed under this role for over 3 years now. This company is a team of glazing professionals that provides both manufacturing and installation services across western Canada. Safety is highly valued by all levels of the company and our objective is to continually improve.
Asthma is a long-term lung disease. Those with asthma have sensitive airways in their lungs which triggers a flare up. When this flare up happens the muscle around the airways squeeze tight and the airways swell, become narrows and produce more mucus. (Anon., 2016) All these things make it harder for a person to breathe. Asthma effects the human body’s respiratory system. Asthma causes a spasm and constriction of the bronchial passages and the swelling and the inflammation of the mucous lining. The body responds by defence cells from the immune system, which causes the airways to swell and the muscles surrounding the airways to contract. Which is what cuts off the airflow. While a person is in asthma attack, the asthmatic cannot breathe which
Asthma, as defined by the NIH, “is a chronic lung disease that inflames and narrows the airways. Asthma causes recurring periods of wheezing (a whistling sound when you breathe), chest tightness, shortness of breath, and coughing.” (National Institutes of Health, National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute [NHLBI], 2015). There are risk factors that may predispose a child to developing asthma, which include having allergies, eczema, and/or having parents who have asthma. Asthma is not a disease that is preventable. (NHLBI, 2015). The risk or likelihood that someone would have asthma is based on the biological makeup of the individual that would predispose them to the disease, rather than behavioral, environmental, or even social factors.
Asthma is a disease which affects the airways of the lungs, causing a kind of wheezing whenever an individual breathes, coughing, and you would run out of breathe a lot quicker than an individual without asthma. The
Driving in Montana is at high risk for teen drivers without any statewide laws against distracted driving. According to research done by Virginia Tech Transportation Institute in 2009, “…Text messaging on a cell phone was associated with the highest risk of all cell phone related tasks.” The study was conducted by observing continuously drivers for over six million miles of driving. The major focus was done on eye glance analyses. The assessment of where drivers looked when involved in driving events which were critical for safety, and how cell phone usage impacted the driver was analyzed. The tasks, which drew the driver’s eyes away from forward focus and attention, created the highest
Asthma is a chronic lung disease characterized by episodes in which the bronchioles constrict due to oversensitivity. In asthma, the airways (bronchioles) constrict making it difficult to get air in or out of the lungs. Breathlessness is the main symptom. The bronchi and bronchioles become inflamed and constricted. Asthmatics usually react to triggers. Triggers are substances and situations that would not normally trouble an asthma free person. Asthma is either extrinsic or intrinsic. Extrinsic is when the inflammation in the airway is a result of hypersensitivity reactions associated with allergy (food or pollen). Intrinsic asthma is linked to hyper responsive reactions to other forms of
