Chapter 1:“Came up short”:”Live downtown,we have the Marsh Eagles VS Tenney Tigers. This is such an anticipated match and one for the ages”. This is what it looked like but in reality it was more like this. “Welcome to Methuen,MA where we have the Marsh Eagles against the Tenney Tigers. This is just 2 teams just fighting for the next spot in the playoffs. Then I walked in and it was game time,the playoffs were on their way. They exhibit a polygynous mating system, which means they have one-male and multi-female groups. The male’s large home ranges envelop the home ranges of several females. The males in most cases are the most active in courtship- they are in fact, the best provided with and are the more attractive of the two sexes in various ways. The attractions are flaunted in an elaborate manner in the presence of the females; and also only during the mating season. It also happens to be, that the individuals of one sex are capable of feeling a preference for a certain individual of the opposite sex according to Darwin. When the above happens, like in the case of the argus pheasant where the females are attracted to the exotic shading of the ball-and-socket ornaments and designs on the wing feathers of the male, it is interesting to notice that the males especially flaunt their great plumes only during the mating season and preferably in the presence of his female counterpart/counterparts. The great plumes which prevent the wings from being used for flight, thus, can be traced to the fact that they were given to the male as an ornament. Also, interesting is the fact that, the females would likely mate with that male argus pheasant who had the greatest plume because it charms them.

The Roseate Spoonbills nest in colonies and their nest sites are located in mangroves, trees, and shrubs. The birds locate their nests approximately five to fifteen inches above the ground or water. Sometimes, but not always, they nest on the ground. The females mostly make the nest, but the males help too. The males’ principle responsibility is trying to gather materials for the nest. The nest is made up of sticks, twigs, and leaves and has a bulky platform. Roseate Spoonbills normally lay around two to three eggs, but can occasionally lay one to five eggs. Their eggs have white coloring and browns marks or spots. The incubation period is approximately twenty two to twenty four days. Both the male and female Roseate Spoonbills feed their offspring.
