Benefits and Controversies of a Nonprofit Organization
For numerous years the nonprofit organization, Planned Parenthood, has been a topic of controversy as people ask whether or not the healthcare organization needs to have its funds revoked. In 2015, a video footage was released to the public of “Planned Parenthood medical officials discussing the sale of fetal tissue to researchers,” and it seemed likely that federal funds would be revoked as backlash from the public was noted (Welch). Although the nonprofit organization does offer the termination of unplanned pregnancies, the organization offers many more services to women and men, such as free birth control and yearly health checkups “backed by medical experts and more than 100 years

A fantastic way to prevent unwanted pregnancies is with the use of contraceptives, and the organization makes them accessible to all patients at lower or no costs at all (Planned Parenthood). Different methods of birth control are made available to patients after their consultation, but they can decline to accept them. However, they are encouraged to return for them at any moment if the time presents itself when the patients may need them. Not only does the organization make it easy for men and women to have access to birth control, it also educates its patients on the correct use of birth control for the best results (Planned Parenthood). When patients leave the clinic, they leave with the proper knowledge not only how to prevent unwanted pregnancies, but also how to prevent being exposed to sexually transmitted diseases (STD’s) and other health risks.
Although Planned Parenthood offers many great services to both men and women, not everyone shares a positive point of view of the nonprofit organization and what it stands for. During the presidential elections of 2016, candidate (and now President) Donald Trump openly shared his thoughts on defunding Planned Parenthood if he were to win the presidency (Beck). During the elections, Mr. Trump made several promises to defund Planned Parenthood “as long as it continues to offer
Planned Parenthood has become a topic of interest for the election of 2016. This is due to many reason. This article is about David Daleiden’s exposure against planned parenthood. He went undercover for two and a half years to try to expose them for selling fetal tissue products for profit. He received three hundred hours of undercover footage and released one video per week exposing the organization. Many groups have tried to take down Planned Parenthood but have not had any success, even after spending millions. David spent one hundred and twenty thousand dollars to expose this organization for everything that he did, including salaries, research, equipment, and travel expenses. Planned Parenthood receives over five hundred million dollars
In January 2016, Congress passed a bill to defund Planned Parenthood, a family planning group that runs more than 800 reproductive health clinics across the United States. They wanted to cut Planned Parenthood because they perform abortions. Most people don’t know they only do them for certain situations. If you were raped and the pregnancy is still early they will perform it. If the pregnancy was included in incest they might terminate it due to problems that would be cause in the baby due to alike DNA. In other cases if the pregnancy was harming the mother they might also do it then. That's not all what planned parenthood does though. They also have operations that include prevention pregnancy by distributing birth control and free condoms. They also educate the public about contraception, they reduce the spread of STD’s through education, testing, and treatment. They also screen for cervical and other cancers. Planned Parenthood offers so much but cutting tax funds they wouldn’t be able to offer a lot of those things. More than 5 million men and women world 5 million men and women worldwide use their services
While Planned Parenthood offers cancer screening, pregnancy testing, sexually transmitted infection testing, contraception, and more, the safe and legal abortion service they provide is typically the highlight of conversation (Sexual Health Topics - Planned Parenthood). It is interesting to compare the Democratic candidates to the Republican candidates on this subject. Mr. Sanders and Mrs. Clinton wish to fight to continue Planned Parenthood’s government funding. In fact, Mr. Sanders hopes to find a way to expand the funding (Fighting For Women’s Rights). On the other hand, Mr. Trump, and Mr. Cruz wish to end the Planned Parenthood funding. Donald Trump has expressed some mixed thoughts regarding the funding and abortion. Mr. Trump believes that Planned Parenthood has done “very good work for millions of women," (Krieg). However, Mr. Trump has also said, “But Planned Parenthood should absolutely be defunded. I mean if you look at what’s going on with that, it’s terrible” (Donald Trump: “Planned Parenthood Should Absolutely Be De-Funded”). Quite frankly, I think Mr. Trump is confused. It is clear that he wishes to defund Planned Parenthood due to the abortion service provided even though he recognized the majority of work Planned Parenthood does for millions of women (Krieg). Jill Stein has not publicly commented on Planned Parenthood’s government funding; however, she did comment on the organization’s decision to endorse Mrs. Clinton (Sheer). Planned Parenthood has personally influenced my life. I work in the education branch of Planned Parenthood as a high school sexual health peer educator. In my opinion, the work Planned Parenthood does deserves and requires government funding which is why I would vote for the Democrat candidates when considering this
The “Planned Parenthood Federation of America” is a non profit organization, funded by the Federal Government, in which it provides reproductive/maternal health services among the United States as well as internationally, since 1952. In recent news developments, there have been rumors that Planned Parenthood practices “inhumane” procedures when aborting an unborn baby to harvest their organs and that a law should be passed to stop this. The supporters for Planned Parenthood claim that these claims are unfounded and believe that Planned Parenthood is a wonderful association that helps women and men all around the world. This issue has caused a series of debates that have been going on for years, but Planned Parenthood still lives on.
Planned Parenthood is a controversial topic sweeping the nation of America with political and moral issues. Every day one could come across a new article on it, stubble upon a news article in their local paper or even on their local news station. Planned Parenthood directly provides reproductive health services, is involved in teach young students about sexual education, contributes to research in reproductive technology, and interacts with legal and political efforts aimed at protecting and developing reproductive rights.
Planned Parenthood a program that has been servicing communities for over 100 years by providing sexual health care and preventative services for women and men is going to be possibly defunded by the government according to “the Grand Old Party”, or Republican Party. In an order to avoid government a shutdown in efforts to save federal funding, the government will defund Planned Parenthood for one year to create financial savings. According to the Washington Post, “Planned Parenthood receives about $500 million annually from the government (Paquette, 2015, p.1)”. The bill that is subject to pass by the government, “prohibits for a one-year period, the availability of federal funds for any purpose to Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc. or any of its affiliates or clinics, unless they certify that the affiliates and clinics will not perform, and will not provide any funds to any other entity that performs, an abortion during such period. The restriction will not apply in cases of rape or incest or where a physical condition endangers a woman’s life unless an abortion is performed (H.R.3134 - 114th Congress, 2015-2016).”
Planned Parenthood is an organization that provides healthcare and education to both men and women, having over 650 health centers that provide healthcare to countless communities around the world. Shockingly, 78% of those who use Planned Parenthoods services live at or below 150% of the federal poverty line, showing how important this organization is to low-income families (Topulos, Greene, Drazen). Their mission statement is “A Reason for Being”, which is shown through their efforts to provide health care, advocate public policies, create educational programs, and endorse research. There are those who do not believe Planned Parenthood should be funded by the government, though, due to the fact that they provide abortions to women in need. Studies show that the effects of not having Planned Parenthood available are disastrous, causing low-income families to lack a healthcare provider and the number of those who are infected with STD’s and STI’s to rise. The biggest concern communities have about the government defunding Planned Parenthood is the effects that it would have on low-income families who would no longer have access to something that many people take for granted: health care. Although many believe that Planned Parenthood mostly provides abortions, in reality, only 3% of the people that seek help from them receive an abortion, while 97% receive affordable and, in many cases,
October 20th, 2015 the U.S House voted to end taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood due to their harvesting of body parts of aborted babies and fetal tissue, among other parts for scientific research and selling to third-party companies to distribute. The companies they sold to used the parts as they wished for research and supposedly for ingredients in cosmetic wear. Center for Medical Progress, an anti-abortion group, released the videos of them secretly meeting with director of Texas Planned Parenthoods who teaches the methods for abortions for the state, whom explained that they perform abortions to gather intact fetal specimens. Many types of people claim that such an issue is so morally corrupt that the company should be defunded federally,
Numerous Americans, including some who are pro-choice regarding abortion, do not want their tax money used through Planned Parenthood for abortion. Staunchly religious people against abortion, claiming that it insults God to “kill unborn children,” are also against Planned Parenthood for giving out the service of abortion (DailySignal). Moreover, the selling of fetal parts by PP has become a big issue that is increasing the support for defunding PP.
Millions of women across America will struggle to receive the medical attention they need if the federal government stops funding to Planned Parenthood. Every year 363 million dollars goes into the funding “pot” collectively at Planned Parenthood’s nationwide (Clark 5). This money is used predominantly by women; for six in ten women, Planned Parenthood acts as their main source of health care (Clark 4). Many individuals with low incomes depend on these clinics to maintain or help better their health. Recently, the federal government is trying to pass the Pence Amendment, which would eliminate funding to these institutions. The federal government needs to realize how important Planned Parenthood
Numerous amounts of people benefit from Planned Parenthood, however the institution is in jeopardy. The current presidential candidates, such as Ted Cruz, are plotting to remove the non-profit business once they win the presidency (Bassett). These politicians are power hungry and will do anything to reach the top, even exterminating many essential services. Due to the sex education taught that is not provided in school and moral support for targets of sexual abuse, Planned Parenthood is ambushed daily.
Planned Parenthood has always been a controversial topic because of the many services they perform for their patients. The most controversial topic is abortion, but Planned Parenthood additionally provides substantial health care, birth control, STD prevention and treatment, etc. for patients who do not have access to or cannot afford actual health care. Due to the amount of people who receive treatment in Planned Parenthood, it should not be defunded so that the people who use it as their only option are not left without health care and the economy can benefit from the money they raise from Planned Parenthood’s services. Defunding Planned Parenthood can also lead to issues revolving around the rural areas where they are centered, as well as the economy as a whole.
Chief Executive Officers make a lot of money. In fact, the average CEO earns 212 times that of the average American worker in the United States (Stelzer, 1997). This means they earn six to seven figures just on average. Some earn way more than this. Many people question whether CEO’s deserve to earn this much money. Is it fair that CEO’s live in such luxury, while some of their employees work very hard and still struggle to make ends meet? This question is complicated enough. However, it gets more complicated when this question is asked about nonprofit organizations. Should nonprofit CEO’s and other executives receive compensation that is comparable to the market, or is that taking advantage of the resources that have been generously given to the organization by people who want to see those organizations do good and accomplish a mission?
Nonprofits became a huge demand for society during the twentieth century, which was a very altering time for the United States Government (Samuel, 2013). Many people lost their jobs and had to rely on the government to assist them in meeting their basic needs in order to survive (Samuel, 2013). Due to such a huge demand, the government desperately needed the help of organizations not concerned about making a profit (Samuel, 2013). As the nonprofit sector has evolved and expanded, more people are interested in employment (Samuel, 2013). Because nonprofits do not profit a lot of income like a for-profit, it is important that human resource directors provide appealing employee benefits (Samuel, 2013). For nonprofits that do provide employee benefits are beginning to add stipulations due to the high cost and responsibility that is placed on the organization (Price, 2011).
One key way to reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies is through the implementation of comprehensive family planning programs, and increasing access to these services. The research conducted for this study compared rates of unintended pregnancy in similar countries and focused on how contraceptive and family planning care differed in those countries. Bongaarts (2014) researched how family planning programs can improve the care of patients whose reproductive health needs were not being me. Bongaarts explains that programs reduce unmet family planning needs by “reducing obstacles to use and by providing access to contraceptive methods and services…. (thus) producing a rise in the demand for contraception….”. The author goes on to explain that the implementation of family planning programs, and the increase “ modern contraceptives”
