I examine how rising or falling tide can affect the water level of Corte Madera Salt Marsh in this report. The data is from Wednesday (June 19th) and Thursday (June 20th). My hypothesis is that tide and water level have positive relationship. From the result, I learn that the water level and tide have positive relationship. However, when tide changes its direction, the water level is likely to stay or little change.

Everything starts to happen on December 1941 in there house in Ocean Park, California. Ocean Park is a small little town that is kind of by Santa Monica, a lot of the people that life there make their living by fishing, and eating what they catch.

To begin with, if I was currently an advocate for the environment and animals I would first focus on the Orcas, or killer whales, at theme parks, specifically Sea World. First of all, Sea World is inhumane. Five of the Orcas currently at sea world were “whale-napped” from the oceans they called home. For example, Tilikum, one of the most know whales in the Sea World franchise, is now thirty-two years old. He was captured at the age of two by, which means he has been in captivity for thirty years. And, before anyone says Tilikum was injured so they “rescued” him I want to say that it is fact that Tilikum was not injured. An average of 30,000 people visit SeaWorld Parks in the United States yearly, however, many of the visitors are unaware of the secrets the parks hide right in front of their eyes. SeaWorld is a popular theme park and marine zoological park with locations in Florida, Texas, and California. They host hundreds of types of marine life and their most popular being their orca whales. Only, these whales, dolphins, and other animals face many challenges in the captivity of the parks. Many of the original animals were taken from their natural home just to become another one of the parks’ pet fish. The whales, dolphins, walruses, and other animals are forced to breed and they become sick and injured too easily in their artificial habitat causing them to die earlier than they inherently should. They, also, pose a threat to the staff and trainers of the park during training and shows. So, the world needs to ban together to condemn Seaworld parks and their dangerous habits across the globe.

Science versus pseudoscience is a heavily disputed topic in the scientific community. Thus, it is important to identify the two and understand the differences. Depending on the source and agenda it can be difficult to notice the difference. After researching this topic, in regards to the ocean, I found an article, “Science and pseudo-science on the ocean floor”.

SeaWorld. We’ve all heard of it. First the spectacular shows and mesmerising performances of marine animal and men. Then the truth; years later. The torture of animals and the small confinement that these animals have been forced to live in, Orcas that were “...confined to a tank containing 0.0001 percent of the quantity of water that he would traverse in a single day in nature.” High death rates and big behavioural changes in the animals that have never been seen in the wild. Several that have caused death of other animals and humans.

“Can you imagine being in a small concrete enclosure for your life when you’re used to swimming 100 miles a day?” This is how captive dolphins live everyday, their natural habitat is swimming miles and miles in the ocean. When they get captured their lives change for the worse. In the past decade Seaworld and captive animals has been a controversial subject. Many people believe the keeping orca whales captive is damaging to the animal and affects them in a negative way. Others believe Seaworld is used to rescue animals and save them. The treatment of animals in captivity is cruel and should be stopped. Keeping animals captive is an appalling punishment.

Animal captivity acts as a broad way for the public to view and enjoy wild species. However, “it transforms helpless, harmless animals into aggressive, agitated monsters” (4). “Wild animals should never be kept in captivity- especially not at SeaWorld Parks” (7), and little did you know that kept Animals in captivity are deprived of their loved ones, their freedom, and their personal will to carry on, which lead to them becoming highly aggressive. The conditions in captivity are horrifying and disgusting. The animals have to have a better place to live in so that they will have the capability of striving. Ever since I was an infant, I have spent almost every summer on my father's boat in Ocean City, New Jersey. Whether it be fishing or jumping off the boat to go swimming, I have always been familiar and had an immense love for both the boat and the ocean. Up until this year, I had never known that there was an option for me to be able to take online classes at my high school. Since I have already taken all of the science classes that are honors that were available, I needed to find another science class. I had found the honors oceanography class in the catalog online, and I instantly signed up for the course. I enrolled because of my interest for the ocean and it's inhabitants. The Atlantic Ocean. It is one of the five oceans in the world. It is home to many fish and other creatures. It is one of the five oceans that actually intrigue me. My questions were, How big is the ocean itself, what life lives here, and the trade routes of this ocean.

If you are interested in adventuring the depths of the ocean, being a marine biologist is the job for you. As a marine biologist you will need to have several years of schooling in order to have a successful career. Being a marine biologist can be an enjoyable and dangerous job, but the journey is worth the ride.

If you have ever lived in proximity to coastal areas you may have seen coastline erosion first hand. The beaches you frequent during the summer may seem to be getting smaller and smaller every year. Why does your favorite beach seem to be disappearing? Coastal erosion is to blame. The waves, wind, tides and currents all play a part in the mechanism that is coastal erosion. When water and wind batter the shoreline sediments are carried out to sea and deposited on the sea floor or at other points along the coastline. This is called an erosional coastline. This erosion may be very apparent or seem to have happened overnight when it happens due to a large storm or extremely high tide.

When thinking about getting away to some serene paradise to help forget about work or school obligations most people instantly think of the beach. Whether it be the west or east coast the beach is a universal symbol of peace and serenity, plus a little bit of fun. But this bliss has a whole different meaning to me. This is where I grew up and how I found myself. The west coast of Florida is the first time I felt the sand in my toes and the salt water on my face. These memories inspired me to give back to the ocean and its inhabitants and follow my dreams of becoming a marine biologist.
