I hear the door opening as I wake up and see my dad walking in “Good morning,” he says I groan in frustration. Why is he waking me up this early it's 7am and two days before Christmas. “Get dressed we're leaving in 20 minutes,’’ he says before leaving my room. I throw in a sweatshirt and yoga pants then head downstairs. I am waiting in the kitchen then I hear my sister come down the stairs, “Do you know where we're going’’ “No’’ I reply. I hear footsteps coming down the stairs and look up and see my parents coming down the stairs. “You guys ready,” asks my mom. “Yes,’’ me and my sister mumble anyone's we have to get up the early on winter break. “Okay let's get in the car,” my dad says walking towards the garage. I begin to stare out my window to try to figure out where we are going. Then I see a road sign that says 20 miles to West Virgina. I try to think of what we coul be downing in west Virgina. My mind is racing of what we were going to do in west Virgina I mean we don't know ant people who live in west Virgina we could be going hiking but with the weather outside I highly doubt that possibility. I drift away from my thoughts as my gears begin to pop. I look out the window and see we are driving up a mountain then we drive over a bridge. Once we cross a birdge I see a sign that says welcome to west Virgina. “What are we doing in west Virgina,’’ I ask hoping I will finally get an awnser. “Just wait,” my dad said again. “I think we went too far,’’ said my mom. “On the phone the guy just said the top of the mountain,” my dad replayed. “There was a gas station before the bridge do you think that is it?’’ “Probably,” said my dad. My dad proceed to make a u-turn and drive back over the bridge. My mind began to race with all the possibility of who we could be meeting. That's when I see we are turning into a gas station. This gas station was not like a normal gas station it was old and creepy looking. There was a row of about 8 sheriffs cars parked next to each other in front of the mini store next to the gas
“Daddy, hurry up!” he says, trying to hide a smile while glaring at me. I laugh and drive to his friend’s house.
“That’s wonderful. I can’t wait to see it. Where is Lester anyway?” I asked as I sat up and yawned.
We get out and walk in my dad says,” I’ll be back I’ll go find a worker.”
“Matt! Come get some stuff from the car!” my mom called to me, pulling us from our trace of
“I’m going to go grab the truck. He just lives down the street a mile or two. Do you want to wait inside until I get back or are you ready to go now too?”
"I want you to be quiet... Now drive," I order. He starts the engine and I direct him to our location. Once I
“Yes, Dad,” I replied, yawning because I just woke up. I grabbed the bag and headed for the sliding glass door. “Hurry up, Sam!” I yelled, waiting impatiently at the glass door.
“Guys we- we’re so close! You can see the top right here! The storm isn’t that bad!” my dad shouted, once again pointing to the peak.
Entering the house felt like jumping into a pool of cold water. Making my way into the living room, slower than a one-legged dog on tranquilizers, I could see my dad. At a glance, it looked more serious than just my dog having died.
I felt someone shaking me, causing me to wake up and I looked up disappointed to see it was my dad.
I woke up in my room. I went downstairs and my Evelyn was in the dining room, “Are mom and dad awake? “ I said
“Wow, I mean this is awesome, but, why did we come all the way out here?”
“Hailey, we’re waiting for you to get down here and eat breakfast with us before school,” my mother said. As she opened my curtains to wake me up quicker, she said, “Harley’s here, he wants to walk with you to school.” After that, she shuts my bedroom door and walks downstairs to finish breakfast.
I panicked and swerved left because if I hadn’t I was going straight off of the road and it was over for me. When I made the turned I was on the left side of the road and tried to get back on my side before I went off the side of the mountain, but I overcorrected and my tired had blew out. I was going off the road and there was nothing I could do at that point. The car was heading straight for a dirt bank and right before they met time seemed to have been put in slow motion. It was like a movie. I remember seeing the bank coming closer and closer and I closed my eyes. Faces of everyone that was important to me popped up. They came up like the faces of those who die in The Hunger Games do. Then every memory I have played like a VHS tape being fast forwarded. At that point I knew it was over for me and I would never see those people again. As soon as the car hit life had pressed play and it was all a blur. I heard glass shattering, metal crunching, and I was absolutely terrified. I opened my eyes when I felt the car stop moving and was hanging upside down. I’ve never been more glad to have my seatbelt on. I was in disbelief, and questioning whether I was really ok or was I so in shock that I didn’t feel anything. My phone was hanging there in my face by the aux cord in my car, so I grabbed it and tried to unbuckle myself. I was shaking and couldn’t get it at first but I calmed down and got it and fell on the room of the
“ Just leave I will find a way to get myself out of here”. Dad said.
