I took this opportunity to understand my unhealthy habits and transform my behavior. In my Wellness Recovery Action Plan, the information brought light to the obstacles and how to overcome issues. After filling out the Schedule of Recent Experience (Wieitan et al., 2009) and Tactics for Coping with Stress (Weitian et al., 2009), it was a shock how much I put my body through. A finalized copy of my results can be observed in Appendix A, and the results of the Schedule of Recent Experience (Weitian et al., 2009) can be viewed in Appendix B. In the outcome, I conducted coping mechanisms such as therapy, exercise, and nutrition. Nutrition has been a challenge as a waitress and full-time student. I am always around food at work that led to overeating.
This assignment and the first 4 units of this course will assist me in becoming a healthier person not only personally but also professionally. I have struggled with my diet the past few years, either consuming to much or to little, ultimately eating not very healthy. My goal is to eat from each food group the best I can and to eat the portion sizes that is needed for my body. I am going to try and change my eating habits to create more positive choices for myself. Taking care of myself inside will help in the workforce mentally and physically but also help with my knowledge about healthy eating, I’ll be able to share and teach by example.
The purpose of this assignment is to increase self-awareness of the student by analyzing personal nutritional intake and activity routine throughout the course. In turn, the student will be able to help others modify their diet and activity, and improve overall wellness. An examination of a personal food and activity assessment will provide the student with essential data from which to change their health and wellness behaviors.
For this assignment, I chose to attend an open group meeting for Overeaters Anonymous on 6/29/2015. The group participates in the H.O.W. program of Overeaters Anonymous. H.O.W. stands for the principles of honesty, open-mindedness, and willingness. The meeting took place at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, located at 2535 East Broadway St. in Pearland. The format for this meeting was an open meeting. The meeting was an informal, but structured meeting, observing both the 12-Step recovery approach, and the Overeaters Anonymous 12 Traditions. The only requirement for Overeaters Anonymous membership is the desire to stop eating compulsively. My principle motivations for attending this meeting included the self-awareness,
In my brief time, that I have had in mr. Rudich PED 116 class. I have grown to learn a few things about myself, and my health and what I can do to improve it. First, starting with nutrition I have learned about the different types of fats, what foods are necessary to for our body and which ones to avoided. I have also redefined what a portion and serving sizes are. When the class participated in the diet analyst assignment and we recorded our eating habits for three days I believed before doing the assignment, that my diet and lifestyle were acceptable, but what I learned was quite the opposite. I learned that majority of consumption included high quantities of fat, protein, and carbohydrates at unhealthy levels. Since then,
What I learned this week in “Achieving Wellness and Eating and Exercising toward a Healthy Lifestyle”
Thank you for accepting my invitation to “Healthy Me”, at 1:00 pm on October 3rd. As well as, how to achieve individual health goals through meal planning and mindful eating habits. During the Event, we will illustrate how to set short and long-term S.M.A.R.T goals. We will establish what skills are required to effectively meal plan, and what healthy eating looks like.

At the age of fourteen, I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) which is an imbalance of reproductive hormones, in short. PCOS makes it very difficult to use insulin to convert carbohydrates into energy. A common characteristic of PCOS is obesity. Even then, eight years ago, I knew I needed to maintain of lifestyle of healthy eating and daily physical activity. But, during a self-assessment period, I realized I would eat unhealthy meals multiple times per week. My choices were your typical “hot and ready” meals, fast-food items, or just unhealthy snacks supplemented for lunch or dinner. With the stresses of school and work, quick-grabs were very convenient and oddly satisfying. These environments not only limited physical activity, but required prolonged sitting. Consequently, a lifestyle of inactivity resulted. I knew that too much stress, too much eating, and not enough exercise would soon lead to a sedentary lifestyle, but I did not have the discipline, interest, or time to make the necessary changes. I thought I reached the point of no return when I began eating just because I had access to it or in response to stress. Guilty and ashamed, I realized I was not eating because I was hungry, but because of stress and availability. Overtime, I recognized I
Completing the wellness lifestyle assessment helped me to identify the areas of my life where I need to make some changes, and reinforced what I knew about my wellness habits already. Considering all the components of wellness, I think my assessment was fairly encouraging. I was not too surprised at my results, but found out some areas that need more change than I had anticipated.
When making your own wellness plan, self-reflection is inevitable and possible areas you may not have known to be problematic is now something that calls for attention. Without overthinking the overall makeup of our unique personalities and lifestyles, I personally believe that we all naturally attempt to compartmentalize the self to be the most efficient we can. Meaning that we don’t intentionally neglect or avoid sections in our life, but we tend to overlook them, deeming them less important to maintain. Upon my own reflection using Myers & Sweeney (2005) The Indivisible Self features, I have decide to work on improving my thinking under the creative umbrella, the spiritual, and self-care characteristics under the essential element of the
Many people perform poorly at their jobs and have less energy due to the unhealthy eating habits they have.
I struggle with binge eating. This diet recall activity made it even more clear now how much I struggle with portion control and having the will power to say no in the things I over indulge in. As a future midwife, I know counseling my patients about diet and nutrition is going to be difficult unless I change my own personal habits and then be able to share in the experience with my patients. I personally think it’s a little judgmental of me to explain the importance of a proper balanced diet when I personally struggle with it. One the other side, I will also be able to relate to my patients who do struggle with getting the right amount of nutrients needed and better understand the importance of portion control and know when to splurge every once in a while versus every
Businesses in today's economy have evolved from how they were in the past. Companies in the 80's began innovating the way that people thought about workplace benefits. Ambitious investors and daring entrepreneurs lead the charge into the business world shaping things into how we know them today. After the Cold War America went into a recession and many businesses had to cut back and lay people off. Wellness programs and other benefits were no longer a commodity that most businesses offered. (Vesely, 2012) After the recession, workplace environments improved drastically. Major corporations like Boeing Co. made huge steps in improving the workplace, doing things like creating a smoke free work
I have participated/ being involved in the wellness programs of the company around sixty percent of the time. It just not helps in the physical fitness but also works as a morale booster. With these programs, one feels like that someone cares for you. It results in increased efficiency at work as well as positively changed attitude towards life. I wish most of the employee would be involved in such programs and take benefits from what is being offered to
Unfortunately, the United States has an overwhelming percentage of adults that are overweight or obese when compared to the global percentage of 33%, nearly half of the United States percentage of 68% (Fleming et al., 2014). Due to the number of people that are affected by excess body weight, many measures have been taken in order to reduce the percentage in the US including encouraging healthy eating habits at a young age, promoting an active lifestyle and a greater awareness of caloric intake. For this assignment I chose five people that I know through school and work, understanding their stressful lifestyle is important to know when considering possible factors that may contribute to their unhealthy habits.
