“Which way to go?” Countless aspiring men and women oft repeat this question in their senior year of high school. The future seems daunting with its numerous choices and decisions. The question that is most predominant in their minds is which college do I choose? With there being close to 51,000 colleges this can seem quite an overwhelming task. “Very rarely is there going to be a clear cut 'yes' when it comes to making a college decision," says Weichman, who specializes in adolescent counseling in Newport Beach, Calif. "It's a huge commitment and any doubt in their decision process often increases their stress [and] anxiety—and they begin to question whether they're making the right decision or not." Weimar’s nursing program has just begun this year, nonetheless it already has many strengths and superb qualities. One of their unique perspectives on nursing is the natural approach that they teach. It is not just about the medicine and all things sterile, it’s also about herbs, hydrotherapy, and preventative medicine. Weimar’s aim is, “To heal a hurting world” and this is definitely incorporated into their nursing program. Southern’s nursing program has been up and running for several years now and they a large amount of clout with the neighboring hospitals, so it is fairly easy to find a job once you have graduated from there. About 90% of nursing students complete this program and procure a job. One of Southern’s unique aspects of their nursing program is that they only offer a BS nursing program, not an AS degree. This doesn’t mean that you can’t become an AS nurse, but that once you have become an AS nurse you can start working while continuing going to school, for one more year, as you obtain your BS degree. Both Weimar and Southern have practical, hands on labs, so you learn about the nursing experience before you step out on the field. Both nursing programs have a total of 77-79 class credits you need to acquire in order to graduate. One of the main differences between the two nursing programs is that Weimar is only approved, while Southern is accredited. To some this may be a big deal, then to others it doesn’t matter. The main difference between the two – approval and Accreditation- is if you want to get a job with the government (such as The Department of Defense and Veterans Administration) they won’t accept nursing students from unaccredited schools. However, if you don’t want to work for the government you don’t need to go to an accredited school, an approved school will
As a senior in high school the time has come when people begin to ask big and sometimes overwhelming questions like, “Where are you going to college?” and “What will be your major?” These questions, of course, lead to college visits and decisions. The two colleges that seem to meet my criteria are The University of Findlay and Ohio Dominican University. Both colleges have positive aspects, such as having the major that I am interested in as well as being close to family. However, The University of Findlay seems to be a better fit than Ohio Dominican because it is closer to home and I am familiar with the campus and I grew up on this campus.
High school graduation marks the start of young adults’ lives, a time where they are expected to decide what they want to do for the rest of their lives. Many young adults are pressured into attending college, whether they have determined their goal or not, but is it necessary? “The Case Against College,” an article written by Linda Lee, a mother who has questioned the former belief that college equals success, claims that “not everyone needs a higher education.” College, though beneficial to many, is not for everyone and should not determine an individual’s life.
Decisions made prior to the age of eighteen always seem like a crisis until you have met the mother of all crisis, your final college decision. I found myself staring my future directly in the face almost a year ago wondering where I would further my education just as much as the people pressuring an answer from me. After months of self deliberation, I set my sights on Prairie View A&M University for fall enrollment, albeit if you would have asked me just a few months before I would have turned my face up and dismissed the university as even an option. Stereotypes of universities that historically known as predominantly populated by black students skewed their image for me. Eventually, my outlook was enlightened through educating myself more
How are students supposed to enjoy their senior year when there is a dark cloud called the future hovering over them at all times? Accordingly, during the college decision process, it is essential to take one step at a time. Students that are not set on what career they want to pursue can focus on what they are confident about instead: their talents. The journey in finding the right college can be stressful. In the College Preparation English IV class, there have been several discussions on the pressure that comes with choosing a higher education program and have looked at many different texts on the subject of uncertainty.
Colleges offer early admittance if students have already decided on which college they wish to attend. When going through early decision making, students may often make mistakes, change their school and majors more than needed. In the article, “Colleges & Early Decision,” written by M. Lee and M. Clapp, the authors introduce an early decision process, which students may access in high school. Students “felt eliminating early decisions would ease
Once my senior year started, it seemed as if all I heard was “College this, college that”, because of all of this discussion I was second guessing even going to college as a whole. From taking SATs, ACTs, and planning prom, college for me was the least of my worries. Fast forwarding to November where college applications are due, I still have no clue on what college I am going to attend. All of the California State Universities applications closed November thirty-first, while the out-of-state schools did not close until the top of the following
In today’s extremely competitive, job-scarce economy, having a college degree is now a steadfast requirement when applying to even entry-level professional jobs. Choosing a college has always been a challenging task for high school seniors, but it is now fraught with stress and anxiety for nearly every adult who seeks to further their education. Questions abound: what school offers the exact program I desire? What school is in the best location, or has the best campus? What school feels ‘right’?
The drastic and exponential rise in college tuition and fees has thousands of Americans questioning if the education is worth the high costs. Knowing that a college education may open doors and allow for career opportunities that would not be there without a college degree, many feel pressured to attend. High school seniors specifically feel this pressure as the topic of whether or not they want to attend college and where comes into question. Not only do students have to be concerned about if the college they wish to attend has particular degrees, but also the cost of the secondary education. As a senior in high school I personally understand the frustration in considering the cost of college when choosing the right college to attend. Student

As a high school senior progresses towards their graduation day, making the the correct choice for their higher education institution is a very important decision that may affect them greatly in the long-run. Although, both higher education institutions are designed to teach and prepare individuals for their future career goals, some differences can be anticipated. As a result, attending a university and a community college may be compared to determine which institution is the most beneficial for a high school student in the areas of learning environment, cost of attendance, and student culture and campus life.
I appreciate the opportunity given to me, to complete my leadership hours on your floor. It has been an amazing experience. During my clinical hours, I have been able to see the exceptional work that staff on the 7th floor performs to their clients. My preceptor, Krystal had been very welcoming since day one, as well as the staff. Throughout my nursing program I have struggled in self-confidence. Krystal, has helped me identify talents and assisted me in pursuing my goal of becoming comfortable with the skills that needs improvement, emphasis how we learned from our mistakes. Working alongside with Krystal, had given me the ability to see what an extraordinary nurse she is. As a knowledgeable and caring nurse, one of her greatest assets,
As adolescents begin their senior year, the topic of college often runs without hindrance, often causing extreme stress. As the monetary value, as well as the time spent, begins to accumulate in their minds, students often find themselves bound at the wrists figuring out a way to balance as well as afford college living. In many cases, the upcoming graduates are unsure about their career path, almost enhancing their stress in choosing a school that would cater to their needs. It is almost then they begin to ponder whether or not University/college life is for them, which is could be an extremely advantageous shot in a, for example, high achieving family. Whilst college does allow for a plethora of doors to be opened, the lack of time, effort, and money can hinder one 's ability to properly choose a university. Though school can help with the stepping stones of life, they do not entirely ensure a proper future, therefore many may opt out of school; however, with the correct actions, they may turn out extremely successful, which may not have even happened without the release of the burden of school.
Every year at the same time, thousands of students face the same difficult decision: What college should I attend? Consider two young men both of the highest intellectual capacity and deserving of admission into the nation's most prestigious institution. Steven, high school All American, student body President, and leader of the debate team, hopes to be admitted to the university of his dreams. Christopher, most valuable player in the high school division and aspiring NBA athlete, wants to attend college with students of the same caliber. Steven's parents are both successful neurosurgeons at the local hospital planning to see to it that their son is awarded recognition for his efforts. Christopher's mother, unemployed and unable to care
A big school or small, public or private, urban or rural; these are just a few of the many difficult deciding factors I faced during my college selection. At the height of my selection process, I had applied to ten schools ranging across all those factors. I was completely unsure of what I wanted to do with my life yet and had no idea what type of school I wanted. My mind wasn’t set enough on the future and I was too worried about getting through high school and working my full-time job. As it got closer to spring, I had to start making some decisions. Ultimately, I narrowed my deciding process to three factors to specifically analyze to make the right decision. Beginning with reputation, followed by student life, and lastly the financial cost to attend.
