Wednesday’s All Grown Up
I saw The Addams Family at the Oak Ridge High School Theater on Wednesday, November 4th. This particular version is comedy that follows Wednesday’s story of trying to have a love life like a normal girl. Wednesday now has boyfriend that she want to marry; but, she still has to face many obstacles such as: keeping her marriage a secret from her mother, getting the two families to get along with each other, conflict between Wednesday and her boyfriend, accepting her new feelings, keeping her identity, etc. These obstacles sound like normal and everyday issues that couples have to face. However, the Addams are anything but normal

When Morticia does find out, she is disappointed that Gomez (her husband and Wednesday’s father) would keep a secret from her--especially since they had both sworn to be nothing but honest to each other. On the other hand, Pugsley found out Wednesday’s secret fairly early in the story. Pugsley is terrified of Wednesday changing and leaving no one to torture him. The Addams Family was actually very, very funny and I found myself laughing loudly and wanting to sing along-- even though I did not know the lyrics in the slightest. My personal favorite character was Grandma. I loved how she was loud, strange, and vulgar. My favorite part was when Gomez sprayed her for trying to bite Alice. I also liked the scene where she brings out her potions; although, this may be because I helped arrange the potions on the wagon. I think I am just naturally drawn to more distinct characters with large personalities, which is odd because I am fairly quiet. Because of this, I also loved Gomez. One of the earlier scenes where he is fencing with the butler absolutely cracked me up because the butler didn’t even move, yet Gomez continues to fight so passionately. His Spanish accent truly completed his character. I found it cute how much he admired and loved Morticia, and often tried to distract her by his touch. However, this rarely worked because Morticia’s colder and more clear headed nature. The characters in the play were wonderful and seemed natural for each person. If you glanced at each cast member without their costume, you could easily identify which character they would portray based on their appearance. Though that
