This writing is on a project that is based around Water. New media, performance, video and sound projection will be used to explore movement and sound associated with water. The work will encompass a guitar with pedal effects and natural sound of water searching for a rhythmic sound and music pattern that represents water, as well as its importance to living and hydrating the human body, Video will also be used to show the contrasting calm and strength of water. The new media work will be titled Drink. For the development process of the work movement and sound of differing amplification was explored that could be representational of or effect water itself, where appropriate the natural sound of water in nature. Video projection will be used with original footage (shot by the artist) of water in its natural state, I will then manipulate the footage into an ritualistic state of repetition. Furthermore I will explored the effect on the human body, how much can be retained and consumed and the …show more content…
3 Litres of water a day for the average human male for female 2.2 litres. As the project develops I will explore more tribal water rituals as these rituals can be based around water and the spiritual power of water and sound (music), such as the tribal woman of Vanuatu. As I am personally not of these tribal decent, I will use what research I can on these performance ritual, to generate sound using modern methods, such as an electric guitar, effects pedals, computer based music modification and Video. I will explore the similarities and achieve a representation of water flow in the form of sound, music and video. The ritual process is based on purification/ release of the unclean. Water is removed or inserted into the being to purify the body of unclean fluids which is the belief of the time that the water can heal the body to today's medical
2.5 litres are recommended per day to stay fully hydrated. Water accommodates for 50-80% of the human body. It assists human digestion by absorbing essential nutrients and excreting waste. It is vital in regulating bodily functions such as blood volume and transporting nutrients (2). It also plays a role during physical activity. When the body overheats, it releases fluids by sweating. If the body becomes dehydrated, by not having enough water, it can lead to impaired physiological responses and performance. Although this is temporary, if adequate consumption of water is not met daily, it can lead to health issues including kidney stones, urinary tract cancers, as well as colon cancers
The beautiful town of Stillwater is located on the St. Croix river in the St. Croix River Valley and is known as the Birthplace of Minnesota. The early days of Stillwater were uncertain and uneasy as the land was fought over for many years. The coveted land transitioned from being part of Wisconsin territory to being included in Washington county in 1938. All the while, lumbering interests drew many to the area and white settlers took up residence in Stillwater. One former soldier, Indian trader, Justice of the Peace and promoter, Joseph Renshaw Brown had been in the area since 1820. He had set up a store and farm at Grey Cloud Island and kept a warehouse at the head of Lake St. Croix to supply upriver fur trading operations. This warehouse, which was located where North Stillwater stands today, grew into a small village that he called “Dacotah”. In 1840 the first ferry was licensed to operate across the St. Croix.
Throughout many novels authors use physical features or objects as a tool to help explain a deeper meaning of the story. Tim O'brien has also used this technique, by using water to help explain the meaning of many of his stories. O’briens stories about Vietnam and the different aspects surrounding the war, the settings based around water become more than just a physical construct.

John Luther Adams and Phillip Glass had very unique ways of sharing their environmental message. John Luther Adams’ environmental pieces were focused on the music and each individuals’ experiences in nature. John Luther Adams used unique stage set up and performance location to share his environmental message. Phillip Glass’ Koyaanisqatsi was used in a film. This film used visual images to further express the changes happening around us, both in the city and in nature. Both composers were passionate about the changes happening in nature due to human involvement, but they used very different modes of composer and presenting to share their message and beliefs.

The interactive story, Beneath Floes, effectively uses sound effects to engage readers and create suspense. For instance, the strong wind noises are subtle, but set off a scary and cold mood. The noises really made me feel like I was there and I started to feel cold and tense. To add, the humming noises effectively created suspense and adrenaline. Moreover, the cracking noises and the trap setting off keeps the reader on their toes and even makes them jump a little. These sound effects make the story come alive and keep the readers engaged by making them feel like they’re in a new reality.
The Instrument Implement: Walla Walla Campanile embodies the environmental concerns of an eastern Washington agricultural community. Created by Buster Simpson who specializes in Public Art. This art piece is located at Walla Walla Community College, within sight and earshot of many people everyday. This work includes sensors that track conditions of a nearby Creek. The data that is collected is processed by a computer that encodes it into musical notes. Then hammers on the piece strike the proper disk creating a ring to chime creating an auditory hourly update on the rivers conditions.
This paper discovers the water budget for Berkeley, California in comparison to Terre Haute, Indiana. The two cities precipitation differs throughout the twelve month calendar year where many of the heavy precipitation months are totally opposite. Berkeley California’s winters, where the majority of rain occurs and Terre Haute, Indiana where the rainfall is observed as consistently disseminated throughout the year evenly. This paper will also magnify geographic position, climate and elevation in contrast of the two cities that reflects the water budget outlined in Project 1: Water Balance defined in
You’re probably wondering who’s writing to you. Well, this is you: Abby (NOT Abigail) Wieland. I’m writing this when there are 3½ days left in sixth grade. I know that you are in your room, packing and repacking your school supplies. You’re also terrified for your first year of middle school. It’s not as bad as you think. Nothing really changes, except there’s different teachers for every class. Most of the time, you’ll love middle school. Just like every year, though, there will be times when you hate it. Just warning you.
A community is defined as a group of people living in the same geographic area with shared interests, principles and values. Communities are not monolithic and have differences in power structures, classes, gender and race. Community based programming must therefore take into account the unique structure of each community to establish effective programs that meets the needs of each community. In this paper, I will review the Chesilot Water Project, one of the successful community based programs explored in Were’s “Local Organization and Gender in Water Management: A Case Study from the Kenya Highlands.”
The average adult loses about one or two litres of fluid daily through perspiration, urination, breathing and bowel movements. We lose more fluids if we are physically active. While the individual needs do vary depending on body weight, climate and activity level, it is generally recommended that we drink at least eight glasses (based on 240 ml per glass) per day, which will make up to two litres of fluids.
