George Washington Whenever I read the story of Washington and the US founding fathers is going to be feeling endless, The United States since the two hundred years of history since the Revolutionary War, Washington was the only political leader in his lifetime to get national unity of worship and even deified. From what I understand the scope of world history, I would like to talk about some of my objective views about president George Washington. He is the only person who established a country but did not want to be a ‘king’. He has been able to understand the heart of "democracy", but I still can not understand why he has been able to rest assured that the liberal democracy foundation established by himself desperately entirely entrusted to another group who responsible for thinking of "scholars" were in the rear, if this is a lifelong pursuit of the dream, why he would prefer to "fall by the wayside." Not to mention the temptation right at your fingertips, this is what the mind and vision. Always thought that the history of inevitability, but for the history of the founding of the United States, I always feel it is a "blessing", not the "otherness", there is no follow-up to the US founding fathers wrote the constitution, there is no current US democracy. George Washington ---- The first president of the new United States whom was the unanimously elected President in first two national elections. He led American to win the independent war and then he attended the meeting
Everyone knows George Washington as the first president, but most people do not know his other roles in the creation of the United States of America. In Joseph J. Ellis’s book, His Excellency George Washington, Ellis tells about Washington’s life. He includes his time as a general in the Revolutionary War, his life in retirement after the war, and also his time as the president. Ellis’s main focus in the book is to paint a picture for the reader so it almost feels like they are right next to Washington as his life is explained. The information in his book allows for readers to have a better understanding of what Washington went through in his life and also ,at times, gives educated guesses on what Washington might have been thinking. Through this book, it is easy to see why George Washington is referred to as one of the greatest Americans to ever live.
George Washington became the first president of the United States soon after winning the war against Great Britain, America becoming the first independent 13 colonies. Since the beginning of his presidency people trusted him, being the one who led the country to victory as the General, contributed to people having faith in him. It states in the book that he chose the Country’s well-being before his own and often made decision following his gut, “he took pains to elevate the public good over private interest and projected honesty and honor over ambition.”(Johnson) Washington took great responsibility and honor of the New build Nation, he didn’t take matters lightly choosing what was best for his country. During his presidency, he was a visionary
George Washington was a key figure in American history, who shaped America into what it is today. Washington struggled at times, but managed to pull through and do something great. By siding with Alexander Hamilton insted of Thomas Jefferson at the time, was a good decision. By siding with Hamilton, Washington furthered his partisanship and warned the nation. By doing this, Washington knew it was his biggest failure as president.
The presidential election demonstrated that Washington was unanimously voted on, which was no surprise to Americans back then. In the public’s eye, Washington was an honorable and respectable man, who would never be involved in any wrongful acts. Whether people opposed or stood unresponsive towards the U.S Constitution, when Washington was involved it would cause some interest for Americans. To many people George Washington’s involvement would encourage them to test out this new type of government, represented by the
In 1789, an event that would change and mark the start of using something new was the inauguration for the United States 1st president. Everyone in America celebrated this event because it had finally made us feel like we had things in order and our government was progressing. George Washington was too fond of the idea of being president, but the public summons him to become president. In this paper I going to discuss George Washington’s accomplishments, his failures, and how it effected the federalist.
After the United States gained its independence from Britain, the next step was deciding what kind of nation it should be. The founding fathers Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson, came up with two different models. Hamilton envisioned the country as an industrial and manufacturing powerhouse with a strong central government. While Thomas Jefferson’s vision favored a more agrarian based economy and a limited federal government. Although Jefferson won the 1800 presidential election, the changes that occurred in the United States during the second third of the nineteenth century marked the weakening of Jefferson’s ideals so by the end of the Civil War, the scale tipped and the US became predominantly Hamiltonian. The rapid growth of industry and commerce however, eventually led to the revival of some Jeffersonian ideals as people increasingly felt the need to slow down the acceleration of modernity.
A president of the United States is at the top of the government and is under the constitution of the United States. He is the leader of not only the executive branch, but he is a leader of our great country. He is respected and known as the most intellectual political official by recognition and scholarly. Out of all of the first presidents, one left a legacy like no other, none other the Washington. George Washington had the most enduring and important legacies. He was a humane, sincere, and he selected very profound example for his country, led important wars, and set important precedents.
It is well known that the United States was founded on the basis of Democracy, but what if the primary settlers had the intention of establishing a monarch? As the founding fathers created our country’s foundation, George Washington became known as the leader. Throughout his time as the man in charge, Washington was well-respected and loved. If the U.S. was created as a monarchy, George Washington would have been considered a good king due to his courage, respectability, and thoughtfulness when he retired from office.
“Although Washington hated partisanship and political parties, he tolerated dissent, vicious attacks on his reputation and name, and a divisive press—all in the interest of freedom” (Knott). As he was writing the constitution others saw his leadership, and saw that he was fit to become the first president. At first he didn’t want to become president, but he finally caved in and ran for presidency. During the election on Jan. 7, 1789, he won and became the first US president. When he became president he controlled 11 states, since most of the states were being created. Each decision he made, he knew that they would effect the next president and the way they would govern the US. He nominated the chief justice of the US Supreme Court, creating a first national bank and made his own presidential
George Washington is a man who needs little introduction, but several people only know of him as the first President of the United States. However, he has done exponentially more than just being our country’s first leader. In fact, he is the person who made unification possible. It certainly helped that he was a decorated war hero, and was a man who adamantly supported independence. His tenure as president was perhaps the most vital as he established the precedent that others would follow. He is iconic, and an everlasting representation of our countries’ intent when it broke away from British rule. Washington was, and still is, the chief symbol and most effective promoter of American nationalism (Longmore, 2005).
George Washington played a critical role in the development of the United States from the early stages. He is one of the Founding Fathers, the men who led the revolution against Great Britain and established the United States of America. George Washington can be considered a “seed” as in he planted himself into the system and grew into the man many define as the greatest president to ever serve our nation. Washington was the first president of the United States. Washington had-in the words of the French Minister-”the soul, look, and figure of a hero.”” (Making of a Nation Page 122)His religious denomination was Episcopalian, he was part of the Federalist party, and he married Martha Dandridge at twenty-six years old. Washington was a
As Washington left office in 1797, he left America with parting words that have been repeated by many other presidents throughout history: “so help me god”. This illustrates the impact Washington had on America. He truly was a president upon a hill in that he had no reference of how to run a stable democratic republic where every citizen would be satisfied. He had to make difficult decisions that were both necessary and proper to further the nation as a whole and gain international trust. He had the help of his cabinet members to solve the nation’s economic problems, stop rebellions, and avoid potentially dangerous alliances. Washington’s presidency helped bridge the new nation together by appropriately dealing with tasks at hand and preventing unnecessary involvement in
The presidents of the United States of America each made their own individual mark on our great country. Naturally, through their presidencies we would see strengths and weakness from each president that would make the country love some of them while despising the rest of them. Today I attempt to walk down the presidencies from our founding Father George Washington all the way to the less than inspiring James Buchanan.
There are many fascinating events and people that make up American history. Some events have changed the very ways that American values have formed and many people have risen to the challenges of their time to make a better country for every American citizen. George Washington was one of those people. He is widely known as one of the founding fathers of America. George Washington was born February 22, 1732 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. He was the oldest son of Augustine and Mary Washington. George Washington lived through and was part of many of America’s first couple defining moments in history. He served as a politician, Army officer, and became the first President of the United States. His time as an Army officer had its ups and
When Washington was asked by his fellow founding fathers to become the new King of the United States, his reaction must have been priceless. After fighting the revolution for many long hard years, to get away from a monarchy, and now they wanted to create another one. Washington had his reasons why he did not wish to be king because, “He was driven by Ameri-can nationalism years before independence was declared, and for eight long years after 1775 he sacrificed as a soldier to bring the American na¬tion into being. He emerged from retirement to search for a means of safeguarding a national Union imperiled by sectionalists and localists, and with considerable misgivings he agreed to take on the presidency in an attempt to establish an energetic national government and a robust and truly independent United States.” Washington did not wish to be King, he wished to have what he fought in the revolution for, a government that was governed by the people not a monarch. America’s founding fathers, were at the helm of the
