Andrew Jackson was not a good president. Andrew Jackson did some good things for our country, but in my opinions the bad things out weights the good things he did. Andrew Jackson played a key role in the Trial of Tears. Jackson forced the Cherokee Indians off their land and force them into Indian tertiary. Over four thousand Indians dead along the way. Andrew Jackson was also responsible for destabilize the economy. Jackson removed all government deposits from Bank of the United States and put them in banks.
Conclusively Jackson was a great president because he represented the people of America by being a common man, overcame huge obstacles such as keeping South Carolina from seceding, and by forming the two most popular political parties used in America today, the Democrats and the Republicans. Those who argue that Jackson was a bad president simply
Andrew Jackson, born on March 15,1767 was the 7th president of the United States, who was a self made man, rising to money and power. He is viewed as a controversial historical figure in American history between being a hero or villain. Andrew Jackson is a villain due to his controversial decisions during his presidency, such as the spoils system, the nullification crisis, the Second Bank of the United States, and lastly the most impactful decision, the Indian Removal Policy. Jackson may have been seen as the common man leader, and did many things to benefit the people, but that can not justify his unacceptable actions.
Andrew Jackson has gone down as one of the best presidents in United States history and that’s because he did many great things to improve the United States. Throughout his presidency he constantly abused his power as the president and did many things that expanded the powers of the president. One of the biggest things that President Jackson did while in office was pass the Indian Removal Act. The Indian Removal Act of 1830 was when Jackson forced all the Indians to move to the land acquired in the Louisiana Purchase, while the Supreme Court declared this unconstitutional. Many of the Indians went peacefully, but many of the Indians also decided to protest and take it to the Supreme Court (Darrenkamp). While the court did side with the Indians Jackson and Congress forced the Indians to give up their land. The federal troops were called in to escort the Indians to their new land. Fifteen thousand Indians were forced to move and while on their way about a third of the Indians died, and this event became to be known as the Trail of Tears (Darrenkamp). Jackson had
Andrew Jackson was, and still is a beloved president to many people. The common person might look at our seventh president as a true war hero, when in fact Andrew Jackson was like a tyrant in many ways. He was the reason for about 7,000 Cherokees deaths, and violated many laws. The only reason Andrew Jackson was not impeached was because the senate did not provide a two thirds vote.
Andrew Jackson was one of the most controversial presidents that the United States had in that time. When discussing his presidency many people have different views on if Jackson was a good or bad president and if he had benefitted for this country. Most opinions over Jackson was that he wasn’t a good president since of the decisions he made affecting other citizen but he also was a good president since of how he handled situations as the US debt. One of the most major events that Jackson had caused was the Trail of Tears and how Jackson killed thousands of Native Americans in the process of transportation. This paper will discuss about the wrong-doing from Andrew Jackson to the Native Americans and how this affected our history and this affected people’s views on the Native Americans.
Even though Jackson was very successful during his presidency, there were some events in history that really showed his “weaknesses”. Jackson was classified as a lunatic. He was feared by many, especially his opponents. Due to his temper and poor decisions, Jackson did not mind to go to war for what he believed in or did not care to remove anyone against him. He was a real savage, and I feel the country at this time of period needed this type of mentality in the presidency. A negative event that took place during his term was the Trail of Tears, which was the forced removal of Native Americans from their homeland, resulting in the death of thousands of people. He also promoted slavery and he himself owned many and showed cruelty towards them. Andrew Jackson was stubborn and only cared about himself, but I do believe he
Christian Solino Date:2/9/18 Period:8 Intro: Was Andrew Jackson one of the best Presidents. Andrew Jackson was the only president who not only balanced the national budget, but also paid off the national debt. He also abolished the National Bank of the United States which was a front for wealthy bankers to print fiat money and control and manipulate the national economy as they do through the Federal Reserve today. He also advocated high tariffs to promote American industry and staying out of foreign alliances/entanglements. Jackson also is the only President who has stood up to the U.S. Supreme Court and refused to comply with an ruling he considered illegal and unconstitutional.
He represented the common person by annihilating the National Bank, which favored the rich and well-born. Also, he was a good president because, he gave more people a chance to serve in civil servant jobs, which gave the official who had already been serving for a few years, a chance to get a normal job. By doing this he forced everyone that served to get both an inside perspective and an outside perspective. In addition, Andrew Jackson was a good president because, he tried to keep the Union together, he demonstrated this during The Nullification Crisis in which he tried (unsuccessfully) to compromise with the South regarding the Tariffs. In an excerpt from his Nullification Proclamation from 1832 he states "The laws of the United States must be executed. I have no discretionary power on the subject--my duty is emphatically pronounced in the
Andrew Jackson was an awful president because he acted as a king or a dictator and he caused the Trail of Tears. Andrew Jackson sold slaves in bulk and expanded slavery to the western states. He murdered many people including Charles Dickenson. Although Jackson was an orphan, he falsely stated that he was a “common man”.
The reason why I think President Jackson had a negative effect on the US was because Jackson was selfish and basically ran the country only on his terms. He basically ignored two of the branches of government. This meant that he had the power to do anything that he wanted. If one of the branches wanted to pass a law he would veto most of them (doc.3). The main things that made President Jackson such a negative president in my eyes are that he took the rights of Native Americans. There could have been another way that he could have done or he could of work around the Native American but he had to take away there right away and strip them away from their family and home. No person or group of people deserve to be dehumanized and disrespectful just because they are specific race or
Andrew Jackson gained redemption four years later in an election that was characterized to an uncommon degree with the aid of negative non-public assaults. Jackson and his wife had been accused of adultery on the basis that Rachel had no longer been legally divorced from her first husband whilst she married Jackson. shortly after his victory in 1828, the shy and pious Rachel died on the Hermitage; Jackson apparently believed the negative attacks had hastened her dying. The Jacksons did no longer have any kids but have been near their nephews and nieces, and one niece, Emily Donelson, might function Jackson's hostess in the White residence.

Andrew Jackson had many negative qualities to him, as well. For one he was a slave owner. Anyone who owned slaves should not be able to represent our country. Another reason was because in 1830, Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act. This act allowed him to negotiate removal treaties with Native American tribes. Jackson believed that the Native Americans were inferior to white settlers and wanted to force them west of the Mississippi. He broke treaties
