The War of 1812 was a war that lasted for two years that helped the United States to firmly and officially establish its independence. After finishing with the concern of France, England turned its attention over to the United States. At first, the United States did not want to resort to war and fighting (Doc. B) but rather sort out their issues economically--because England had seized all ships that did not stop in the British port before heading to their other European destinations, Congress passed the Embargo Act and then the Non-Intercourse Act, allowing trade with all nations except France and England. Then, England refused to allow this trade to occur, so America had to resort to war. The Northeastern Federalists were not in favor of
Many historians believe that the Americans were responsible for the war of 1812. However, in reality, some major events that contributed to it were the Chesapeake attack, the impressment of American sailors and the Nonintercourse Act. Therefore, although the war was a result of many conflicts between both battling nations, the majority were caused by the British.

Why the war happened was a reaction to the unfair treatment the Americans were still receiving from the British even after the American Revolution. When America won its independence from England, most Americans assumed they would be free of British influence; however, the British had remained in the states and appeared to be supporting the American Indians living near the Great Lakes. The fighting between France and England also played a part in causing this war due to the effect on the United States ability to exercise neutral to shipping rights. Citizens in the US were unhappy and James Madison, who was elected president while this was occurring, chose to go to war with Great Britain once again.
Although wars are terrible things, they have a way of shaping countries and people into what they need to become. The War of 1812, even though it seemingly had no winner, is no exception. Through this war, America was formed into what it is today, and independent and thriving nation. However, things were not always as smooth with America as they now seem to be. For a long period of time, there was a major conflict between the US and other countries.
The War of 1812 lasted for two and a half years, and was fought mainly by the United States and Britain. The war was caused by economic restrictions in the United States, which were put in place by the British. Another catalyst was America’s desire to expand their land. The War of 1812 was regarded as one of America’s worst-fought wars. Americans expressed no passion or belief in what they were fighting for, and they lacked unity (page 233). Even so, the War of 1812 was the root of many accomplishments in the United States. The increased sense of nationalism among Americans motivated many historic people to achieve great things.
The origins of the War of 1812 between the United States and Great Britain stem from flawed diplomacy. President James Madison inherited a divided party and unruly Congress from his predecessor, Thomas Jefferson. Lacking firm leadership, Madison was unable to create a commanding presence in office that would lead to effective relations with European nations. Madison eagerly accepted Napoleon’s declaration that he had imposed non-intercourse on England, souring any relations between the U.S. and Britain. In Britain, diplomacy was similarly ineffective. Already tied up in the Peninsular War in Spain and Portugal and Napoleon’s invasion of Russia, British government officials neglected the United States and dismissed any idea that the U.S. would
The War of 1812 was the second and last war the United States fought with Great Britain for independence. One cause of this war would actually be because of Tecumseh. When Tecumseh attempted to fight against the U.S. in the north-west territory that merely added fuel to the fire. Another cause would be the British impressment of American soldiers. Regardless of the cause of war, one thing is certain, the outcome was remarkable.
The War of 1812 had many tremendous battles that featured the newly formed American Army verse the well-established British forces. The Americans were forced to declare war of the British because the British refused to stop interfering with American trade, impressment of American sailor, and support for Indian attacks on new American settlements. The United States had to quickly The Battle of Baltimore was the most significant battle in the War of 1812 because it drove back the British Navy into the Atlantic Ocean, gave America hope after the White House was burned, and gave Francis Scott Key the inspiration to write the poem that would be turned into the national anthem of the country.
The War of 1812 was started by America due to British encroachment on three fronts, trade restrictions imposed by the British, the increasing alliances of the British with Indian tribes blocking American expansion West, and due to British interference with merchant class ships in the Atlantic. The war was fought in the Great Lakes region between America and Canada, near New Orleans in the Gulf of Mexico, in the Atlantic trade routes, and around Washington DC. The British had always considered the American insurrection in the 1770s to be a temporary event, their continued battles within the European continent as well as the rest of the British empire had proven to be too distracting to keep a solid check on North America. The British also had not anticipated a war in North America in the lead up to the war of 1812 due to the fragility of the American states, leading to the hubris Britain retained in its relations with the young United States of America.
The War of 1812 was fought between the United States and Great Britain from June 1812 to the spring of 1815 (Findling, 15). When the war began, it was being fought by the Americans to address their grievances toward the British, though toward the end, the issues eventually were unjustified and reasons manipulated. There is no single cause for the War of 1812 but instead, several related causes, such the influence of the War Hawks, the impressments as well as the Embargo and Non-Intercourse acts, and the British's possible interference with the Indian Nations, and land ownership disputes between the Natives and Americans, ultimately leading to the Battle of Tippecanoe.
Throughout the lectures and learn smart assessments regarding the American Revolution and the War of 1812, there are many different factors as to why Americans declared both of these wars as well as how these wars were both won by America. Though both of the wars were not close in time that they took place, they have a lot to do with each other and a lot to do with the independence of what is America today. The War of 1812 was the second war for independence because the British were treating the people of the United States as they were still colonists and the United States wanted clear independence and freedom.
To so many people the War of 1812 is considered the “second war for independence . The war takes place between the years of 1803 and ends in 1812. Americas involvement in the war began by British sailors tormenting and enlisting American sailors to sail and fight for the British. “Most of Americas seven million people lived in coastal states, and for more than a century, seafaring had been both livelihood and lifeline in North America. This way of life was threatened when the British, exercising their advantage, established a blockade along the eastern seaboard, strangling American shipping and commerce.” Britain was already at war with the Napoleon lead French forces, America was profiting greatly by trading with each power, it was when the French and British began braking the maritime laws on the open ocean that citizens of the United States entered the war.

The war of 1812 started for many reasons, however, one of the main reasons was British navy stopping and searching American ships for former British sailors who abandoned their ships and forcing people to fight for them. Another reason for the war's start was because “motivation of the war ‘hawks’ of the US congress to go to war with great Britain was their need to totally expel Great Britain from the remaining land still under British domain on the North American Peninsula,” (Tim Nash). This need to push Britain out of the North American peninsula helped the USA grow to be what it is today. As the war heated, America grew its army to include not only Americans, but also had the Baratarian pirates and some Native American tribes, though most sided with the British hoping for independence.
