Shakespeare 1.7. 25-28) The passage, The Monkey’s Paw, narrated by W.W. Jacobs, is about a monkey’s paw given to the White family by Sergeant Major Morris. As Mr. White wishes for two hundred pounds, the paw moves in his hand, but no money is found. The next day Herbert dies by getting caught in machinery and his work gives the White family two hundred pounds as compensation. They use another wish to bring him back to life, reviving Herbert but as a corpse. However, Sergeant-Major Morris states, “If you must wish,” he demanded, “Wish for something sensible.” Nevertheless, Herbert ignored the warning and encouraged his father to make a greedy wish for two hundred pounds, so you can beg to argue that the blame is on Herbert. Although Sergeant Major did give them the paw, it was clear that he had no part in them making a careless and greedy wish, but Herbert was because he kept telling his father to make the wish knowing they had more than enough money. This is why Sergeant-Major Morris is not the most responsible for the tragedy of the curse the monkey paw brought on to the White family.In the passage, Herbert repeatedly told his mother and father about wanting more money since his parents didn't know what to wish for. In the short story, The Monkey’s Paw, it states, “If you only cleared the house, you’d be quite happy, wouldn’t you” said Herbert, with his hand on his shoulder. ‘Well, wish for two hundred pounds then; that’ll just do it.” This provides support to my claim because it shows how Herbert was greedy over the paw and wished for money more than anything else even though they have everything they
