Today I will be writing about why I believe the voting age should be lowered. People all over the US have had very mixed feelings about this law. Many people disagree, and state that the voting age should actually be higher than it is now. Others strongly disagree and think it should be lowered, I am one of those other people. No matter how you feel about this, as an American, as a person, you have the right to an opinion. Many people state that allowing people under the age of 16 to vote would lower the voting rate, I politely disagree. Allowing even more people to vote is not going to lower the rate of voters. It is only logical, in my opinion, that it would increase
here's no doubt that voting is a serious responsibility granted to all Canadians. Some Canadians practise this privilege as well as right, while others take it for granted. Since the 1970's, voting turnouts has been decreasing dramatically reaching 55% in the 2000's. Eventually, less than half the population will be voting which is not good for a developed democratic country. Therefore, I strongly believe that the government should lower the voting age to sixteen-year-olds instead of eighteen-year-olds. Mainly because middle adolescents are knowledgeable enough nowadays to contribute with the society. Moreover, if these young agers get into the habit of voting in such an early age, they'll always go to vote. Consequently, politicians will care more about young age people
After reading both passages about keeping or lowering the voting age, I have come to a conclusion to keep the voting age at 18. I agree that lowering the voting age would decrease the percentage of participation.
By lowering the voting age from 18 to 16 some people suggest improvement of voter turnout. On the other hand the problem is that by doing this there would be a decrease in the participation percentage. Most of the younger people would not take the time to vote; much less take the time to understand what they're voting for.
There are three possible solutions to the lack of active participation in politics and elections in youth, ages 18 to 25. The first solution is to pass House Bill 16-148 in Colorado which will require high school students to pass the civics portion of the federal citizenship test to graduate high school. The second solution is to lower the voting age to 16 years old. The third solution is to create a youth congress that deals with social issues that relate to the youth. The policy that our group decided would best increase participation in politics and elections in people ages 18 to 25 would be to lower the voting age to 16, because it develops the habit of voting at a younger age, it encourages schools and parents to provide the youth with a better understanding of the government and politics, it allows youth to have a voice in issues that involve them as well as encourage politicians to support policies that help the youth, and it has been proven to fix the issue of voter participation.
The long debate over lowering the voting age in America from 18 to 21 always been a big issue. It began during World War II and became greater intensified during the Vietnam War. That’s when young men denied the right to vote, and they have to fight for their country. There is a big debate about what age you should be able to vote. It’s been a long going issue that nobody has really came up to a conclusion with. I personally think that the voting age should be changed from 18 to 21 because 18 year old are not mature enough, at that age they do not know what and who to vote for, and they have no real world experience.
A proposal has been presented to increase voter turnout by lowering the minimum voting age from eighteen to seventeen years old. The younger voters will be able to vote on local offices but not national level offices. Allowing seventeen year olds to vote would not be fair because they would only be able to vote for local offices not the national offices. If the voting age is going to be reduced to seventeen why not allow them to vote for the national level issues such as president. This change in the minimum voting age would not be effective because the voters would rather vote for national issues as opposed to local candidates which they are not able to do. The change in voting age is very unnecessary because there are not many eighteen year
In my opinion, I feel as though the voting age should stay at 18 and not be changed to 21. One of the reasons why the voting age should stay at 18 is because regardless of your age everyone's voice and opinion should be heard and everyone deserves an opportunity to be able to vote. Also if the voting age were to be increased to 21, the participation rate for voting would decrease significantly. Everybody says how important it is to vote so why should 18,19 and 20-year-olds not be included? If the voting age was raised, it would make things worse, and it wouldn't be right for them to not take part in voting for our political future. Many people may underestimate the younger age groups and may not see them as mature enough to take part in voting.
There has been a debate about lowering the U.S.A's legal voting age from 18 to 16 years old. There are some people are against it, arguing that the younger generation shows no interest in politics. Others believe that lowering the voting age by two years could potentionally show positive results.
The question of lowering the voting age has been one that has been brought up before in the past, and is a hotly debated topic. I am of the opinion that the voting age should in fact be lowered and has proven in fact to be a good decision with many positive effects in the past.
There is an arguement about that the current voting age of 18 should be maintained or lowered. One side says lowering the voting age would affect negativily, it will bring us many issues. Other side supports that lowering the voting age by 2 years would have many positive effects. Lowering the voting age would not help to grow percentage of voters.
In 2012, 62% of Americans that are elgible voters actually did vote. It should be our goal to have a higher voting rate like in Belgium it’s elgible voters are at 93% participation. Changing the legal voting age from eighteen to sixteen won’t change the participation rate. I believe the legal voting age of eighteen needs to stay how it is because younger voters already have a small outcome of voters and a voter younger than eighteen isn’t truly an adult. If we change the voting age now it will only hurt than help.
The voting age for president is set at the age of 18 which is the same age as becoming a legal adult of the United States. This age is set in the theory that at this age citizens have matured enough to make their own decisions on whom to vote for and not be influenced by other people. At the age of 13 on the other hand you are far too deceptable to what or who other people want you to vote for. When you turn 18 you have more of a sense of independence and when act on your own thoughts more so than of others. The voting age should not be lowered to the age of 13.
For the age to be maitaned or lowered is really a tricky question knowing most of the people in the United states can't vote because of felonys. But I think they should lower the voting age. Having younger voters is crucial at times but it will lower the voter turnout.
Some adults say that we should raise the voting age. Their reasons, however, don't make sense. They say young people don't care, they don't actually vote, or they can't be trusted to vote responsibly. However, not all adults do those things. It is hypocritical of them to accuse young adults of the exact same things that they themselves are doing.
The argument of whether or not to raise or lower the age limit for the right to vote has raised many speculations as to how it would affect the economy. There are pros and cons to both sides of the argument, but any decisions made by the powers that be, more than likely, will have an adverse effect on today’s society if placed in the hands of the younger generation. Older voters benefit in having more understanding as it relates to the intentions and qualifications of each candidate running for office. In 1971, the voting age was lowered to eighteen, since then; there has been a decrease in the voting polls between the ages 21-27. If there is the possibility of the voting poles increasing due to lowering the age limit, then lowering the voting age to 17 is a better way of making sure that voters are more aware and equipped in making sound decisions as opposed to raising the age limit.
