Wrenching Being a mechanic is sometimes refered to as wrenching. Its more along the lines of a hobby tho. I believe there is no better feeling than fixing a vehicle that is deemed un-repairable. Taking something that was before a wreck, and turning it into something that would be refered to as “better than new.” Sometimes it is the best feeling in the world. One spring early march I had made a decision to take the old inline six out of a 68 Chevrolet C10. In its place I would place a 350 cubic inch motor, paired with a 700R4 transmission. Needless to say that motor was not meant to go in that specific truck. It took a lot of time and effort to make it right. I had to fabricate the engine mounts and the transmission crossmember. After weeks’ worth of work in about 1 week, I finished it. Getting in it and driving it wioth all its new found horsepower was the reward, for all the blood sweat and tears!! During that same spring I was tasked to replace a heater core in a early 2000’s Dodge Ram. It was not an easy task, the requirements alone were enough to drive me insane. Little to my knowledge the wheel bearing and axel were one burnout away from breaking. During a ride home from work I decided to romp the car causing catastrophic failure. I barely made it home without wrecking. I had to spend hours tearing apart the drivers side hub. The hub and spindle were covered in grease. The most irritating part is that EVERY bolt was as tight as ever. It took everything I had to break them free. Once I was able to break them all free I had to press the old bearing out and press a new one in, that was no easy task. Then the process had to be reversed, all in all it was one of the more irritating jobs I had ever done. The end result tho, was worth it all.
