Virginia is a great state full beautiful landscapes, incredible lakes, and amazing recreational sites. One of the best places to visit in Virginia is its state parks. There are 36 State Parks in Virginia, all of which are different. Those who frequent the parks bring their family, friends, and love ones to be amongst the foliage and appreciate the wildlife that make its homes within its environment. Visitors can fish, play games, host celebrations, and even prepare food; but with all of that activity there are bound to be issues that can arise. One of the biggest issues that can be created by visitors is litter. According the Department of Health (11 Litter, 2010), “Litter is any kind of rubbish dropped on the ground by people when they are …show more content…
It is not uncommon to see some visitors using tobacco products such as cigarettes and cigars while they visit the parks. Many of these visitors who smoke, tend to toss out their cigarette butts without a care. They assume that it’s small therefore harmless. (See Figure 1 on page 2). Other common assumptions are that it will burn out on its own or that park maintenance crews will collect them at some point. Additionally, many smokers incorrectly believe that cigarette butts are not litter at all. But on the contrary they can be quite harmful to the environment. According to Luther King, (King, 2013) most Cigarette butts are made of cellulose acetate which could take more than 10 years to disintegrate.” Cellulose Acetate is a form of plastic found in cigarette filters that can contaminate soil and waterways, it can even harm and kill living organisms. Moreover, if left to decay it can degrade the surrounding eco systems (Moss, 2009). Ten years is a very long time to wait for something to break down on its own. Many people will even bypass the ash receptacles that can be found throughout the park choosing to flick them onto the ground or in waterways. Putting the lives of other park visitors as risk as well as the lives of local
Finally, pollution may be the worst human impact of them all. Litter is a big problem as it affects the parks natural beauty and destroys several habitats, putting the wildlife’s lives at risk. This is managed by park rangers who come and pick up rubbish during opening hours. However, there are only a few bins in the park. This is partially effective but could be
Littering can be a major fire hazard, all its takes is one discarded cigarette butt into a pile rubbish to ignite a towering inferno of sadness. If we litter too much garbage will pile up and will grow a harmful bacteria which would make us sick. It
West Virginia is known as the "mountain state." It consists of many beautiful lakes, rivers, streams, and quite a few tourist attractions, such as Babcock. Not only that, but West Virginia is made up of several different biomes. West Virginia is also made up of forests, as well.
Notes on the state of Virginia, 1782 was written by Thomas Jefferson. When he was born in 1743, slavery had existed in Virginia for nearly a century. He grew up on a plantation with workers who worked as slaves, and as an adult he owned nearly 200 slaves. Jefferson’s views on slavery and blacks remain complex. He thought blacks were naturally inferior to other races particular time, but he later conceded the service they offered might have had an impact on their inferior abilities. As a Virginia legislator, he advocated allowing private citizens to free their slaves but was unsuccessful (Peden). He later introduced a bill to bar free blacks from staying in the state. His draft of the Declaration of Independence included strong language opposing the slave trade across transatlantic. As the president, he signed a bill outlawing that trade.
The Virginia trip was an amazing experience to learn about history hands on while still having time to do outdoor activities. The week was exhilarating, though tiring. The first two days of the trip consisted of historical tours and it was an educational aspect of it. The last three days focused traveling and outdoor activities such as hiking, canoeing, and zip lining. We also visited Monticello before leaving. Towards the end of the trip, I realized that I learned so much about Virginia that I hadn't known before. One of those many new found information included Jamestown. One of the first things I learned was that digging, archeology, and excavations were still occurring today. New bones and artifacts were being found from that time period.
The success of any manufacturing company is dependent on its manufacturing system design. The system design concept has been the basic force in manufacturing advancement. Without manufacturing design, all manufacturing would be stuck in the “square wheel” era. The first system design was the invention of the forerunner of the modern factory nearly 200 years ago. New design concepts are continually improving and impacting the worlds manufacturing.
Yellowstone is the worlds first national park. It was origanally home to Native Americans who lived in the Yellowstone area for at least 11,000 years. The U.S. Army was first commissioned to oversee the park just after its establishment in late 1960. Queen Elizabeth I desired to establish a permanent English settlement in America, known then as "the New World." In the summer of 1587 a group of nearly 120 men and women from England arrived on Roanoke Island, one of a chain of barrier islands now known as the Outer Banks, off the coast of what is now known as North Carolina. This group of settlers set sail from England with the mission of making the Queen's wishes a reality.

This Weekend me and my family visited the Biscayne National Park and figured out that it is known for the World’s Third longest living Coral Reef .The park is located in Southern Florida. This park is one of our national treasures in many ways . Biscayne National Park was established as a national park many years ago. In the Biscayne National Park there is only one mile of paved roadway , most of the activities in the park are done on the water or underneath the water surface.
Yellowstone National Park is one of the largest and oldest national parks in American history. Yellowstone was the first park to be protected by private investment on March 1, 1872, and the first to be put under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service in 1918, no doubt due to its unique and inspiring landscape and geothermal features. In fact, Yellowstone National Park is home to half of the world’s total hydrothermal features. These awesome attractions draw an incredible amount of visitors, an average of two to three million each year, to Yellowstone’s immense landscape. The park has a total size of 28,125 square miles, is found in three distinct states, and is considered to be one of the largest
During the 1600s when England began colonizing in the New World, different colonies had their own concept of freedom backed by their beliefs and/ or motives for settling in America. Massachusetts and Virginia were settled for very different reasons therefore life in their settlements differed greatly. The political, economic, social and of course physical aspects of the colonies were not at all the same, yet they both resulted in their colonies prospering and successfully settling the land. The settlers of each colony had searched for a place to express two contrasting beliefs of what freedom meant to them. Massachusetts and Virginia are two prime examples of how freedom can mean something
Within “Famine, Affluence, and Morality” Peter Singer delves into the topic of famine; specifically, the moral obligations individuals in affluent countries have to those who are suffering. In his example, Singer focuses on the population of East Bengal, and their struggle with famine and extreme poverty. Singer proposes that with enough aid from both individuals and various governments extreme poverty can be eradicated. Therefore, the question he presents is why poor people are dying while affluent people are spending excess money on luxuries? Singer argues that affluent people, living in affluent countries, are not helping developing countries by failing to give enough to alleviate extreme poverty.

It may seem harmless and innocent, but littering is an unhealthy habit people of all ages in each country do every day. Littering is a second nature to some people; after doing it for so long and often, they do not realize they do it. As more and more people continue to litter, environments, animals, and humans are being harmed by people’s carless actions. Americans, as well as all humans, need to be more aware of how hazardous and costly littering is to the world and the creatures living in it. Littering shows lack of respect for the world, and needs to be prevented in order for future generations to live in a clean and healthy environment.
