I found it highly enjoyable to explore the unique artwork that the RISD Museum put on display. Many art museums I have visited in the past, only sees to show drawings, paintings, or maybe photographs. I thought it was neat that this museum expanded their artwork to kitchenware, furniture, and architectural pieces as well. Although there were so many art pieces I appreciated, I especially took interest in the Auvers-Sur-Oise by Vincent van Gogh. Vincent van Gogh is widely known for his artistic talent. Various artists tend to create their own unique style that appears in their strand of artwork. Vincent van Gogh’s artwork in my eyes is more distinct than anyone else's. The second I looked at the canvas I knew it was Vincent van Gogh’s work. Most of the time people only consider the art piece in front of them and …show more content…
I am no expert on Vincent van Gogh, but from what I know about him, his life was very intriguing to me. Due to the fact that I found Gogh to be such a fascinating man, his art was even more interesting to examine. As a psychology major maybe it’s in my nature to analysis certain things more intricately than others. Except, I find more meaning behind Gogh’s paintings than just a marvelous piece of artwork. In this case, Vincent van Gogh was able to illustrate something as simple as a river, church, and the surrounding landscape, and I was still able to extract intense emotion from his picture. The different textural patterns he uses represents a different emotion for me. For instance, the yellow landscape is more of a cheerful feeling while the green tree’s feel more like a dark and angst emotion. Vincent van Gogh, was a man who unfortunately struggled with mental illness. I believe his artwork was a major outlet for him to

Through the years art has been regarded as a form of communication, emotion, a feeling or expression of ideas, by which we mean a person or convey something. This demonstration can be captured in a painting, sculpture or even through writing, which through their expressions disclose the most characteristic form of a culture. Arguably no other artist has captured people's imaginations like Vincent van Gogh. “Vincent van Gogh’s passion, contemplation of life, nature, art, his intensity, his mental illnesses, and his suicide at thirty-seven have all contributed to the powerful myths and love for the estranged artist” (Callow). It is hard to believe that such a beloved painter of today’s society lived such, a short and tortured life. At a young age things, did not start out too well for Vincent. He did not have a very good childhood, and went through many failures in life before he finally found he had an enjoyment for painting. He did not find out that he had a love for painting until he was about twenty-seven years old. Even when he discovered that his calling

I do in fact think that this piece was a successful artwork for many reasons. First of all, it followed the principles of design perfectly as well as incorporated many elements of art quite well. Secondly, there were plenty of interesting forms and objects within the piece to capture one's attention quite quickly and keep one’s attention on the piece for at least a couple of minutes. Lastly, the piece was even featured in a full length biographical movie about the life of Vincent Van Gogh, so it was obviously important enough to be featured in front of moviegoers. In conclusion, this piece definitely is a successful artwork from my point of

Modernism was the movement that took place in Europe during the turn of the twentieth century, where the effects of industrialization, mass politics and other developments in society caused a change in the way people thought. One of the best ways to look at the changes in society is through the society 's culture because people’s work, whether they were scientists, psychologists, philosophers, or artists, show these themes and changes. Some of the major changes seen through these works during modernization include a movement away from Enlightenment ideas, a development of self-expression, a focus on irrationality, and a growing importance of technology and scientific ideas, and a great example to look towards for these changes are Vincent van Gogh and his art work.
Throughout his argument against aesthetics, Heidegger strongly states he believes in the true “work of art” and believes that this aesthetic approach goes against this. One artist that Heidegger particularly discusses is Vincent Van Gogh. He uses works of art by Van Gogh in order to give more power to his argument. Through works of art such as Van Gogh’s A Pair of Shoes, Heidegger makes his a distinction between artwork and things. In order to truly analyze the culture of another, he explains how it is essential for the viewer to question what is being depicted in the work and what the purpose may be. Heidegger describes art as a whole through the philosophies of existence and truth.
In our course book, Van Gogh was the father of expression. He expressed, “Painting things not as they are but as they feel.” (Lewis & Lewis, p. 391). I found in observing the many painting he made. Van Gogh was a very tortured soul. I was not impressed by the dark colored paintings. They were telling me he was a depressed, troubled man and made me feel depressed. The Vincent Van Gogh painting I have chosen is an oil canvas he made in Arles, France: June 1888. Van Gogh called it “Fishing Boats on the beach at Saintes-Maries. (Van Gogh Gallery, 2015). I felt by looking at this painting it was different from the others. The fishing boats on the beach seemed to be clearer and detailed to my eyes. The colors he used seemed to be on an even and bright

Many people say that “a picture is worth a thousand words" and a lot of times this is true. Sometimes a picture tells a story just as well as a lot of written words. Whether an image is stunning, that image, picture, photograph, or drawing is a representation of all the words that we choose to say or not say. An image has the power and ability to express thoughts and feelings without saying a single word. It allows the person to express their own feelings in a uniquely personal way. No matter what the image, photograph, drawing is, there lives inside it the potential to expose a moment of emotionalism that may otherwise have remained covered or hidden. Through that image, it can allow us to connect with others. This was the case of one of the greatest painters that ever existed, which was Vincent van Gough. He said that "real painters do not paint things as they are... they paint them as they themselves feel them to be"(The art story).
Vincent Van Gogh is one of the most famous artists of all time. He is known for his paintings and is hailed as the quintessential expressionist painter in history. Yet, Van Gogh lived one of the most troubling lives one could ever imagine. Almost every painting can be viewed as a look into his troubled soul. Van Gogh’s Paintings today can be sold for millions of dollars, but during his life time he sold a single painting for a measly 40 francs. Van Gogh’s legacy has left behind stories of greatness and sadness having to do with both his personal life and his career as an artist.
