Intro Binge Boy directed by Vince Squibb is an advertisement to support responsible drinking. To demonstrate how the advert was effective with the actions of the boy and the pacing will be introduced as well as the set up of the scenes. These are here to make an effective advertisement to persuade the audience to react to irresponsible drinking. Body 1 The actions in Binge Boy are distinguished because they emphasise that intoxication in adolescence can lead to injuries, messiness and destruction. When the boy poor’s the food on himself, his actions have proven that intoxication can cause messiness. Similarly the boy’s actions have been portrayed to exaggerate the poor actions alcohol can lead to. This reaching out to other adolescence and parents showing them how the adolescence could turn out. Whereas this wouldn't affect adults because they have already had their experience with irresponsible drinking. Body 2 …show more content…
When the boy kicks the radio, he is surrounded by props that create a dull household whilst the boy’s body language suggests he has become violent. The bleakness of the lighting is symbolic of the negative use of alcohol, helping fit the broody mood. The boy’s costuming compliments the consequences of drinking by showing that intoxication can result in violence and destruction of property, therefore promoting a social message to adolescence to drink responsibly. This is an effective message because it is relatable and the audience can make connotations to themselves and people they
Using comedy, they discussed what underaged drinking meant, the effects it has, and the risks it comes with. Though they kept the audience hysterical, both men provided us with hard and shocking facts about alcohol consumption, as well as debunked many common drinking myths. One of the most surreal moments of the night was when they asked the audience for volunteers to share their story on how alcohol affected them or a loved one negatively. As more stories were shared, I felt the crowd shift into a certain realization. As young adults, we are able to recognize the harsh truth of the actions many of us make everyday. It was extremely important to take that moment, to hear primary stories from people like us, to empathize as a student body in order for us to think twice before we make a conscious decision to consume alcohol illegally. Before we let that person drive home under the influence. Before we allow ourselves to be consumed by a product that does nothing but harm our bodies. It’s crucial to our young minds to be shown a new perspective on something so generally and wrongfully accepted. “Shot of Reality” helped our student body understand the effects of drinking, and possibly saved many of us from the devastating consequences drinking can
This documentary touched on so many accurate points in today’s society. Ads encourage unhealthy attitudes such as eating disorders. The obsession
I decided to write my final paper on Koren Zailckas Smashed: A Story of a Drunken Girlhood. A memoir based on a young 14 year old girl who drinks for the first time with her friend Natalie before a birthday party. Her experiences with alcohol doesn’t stop there. We learn that she gets her stomach pumped at age 16, and at age 22, wakes up in an apartment in New York City unsure of where she is, because of alcohol. After this, she realizes that she has a problem and that she needs help. I chose this book as the topic of underage drinking and alcohol abuse is constantly rising in our society today. It is a problem that many youth kids are facing, and this book perfectly describes a young girls story about her addiction with alcohol and the many poor decisions she makes.
“Community Alcohol Action Network” (CAAN) is an organisation which has a website that gives information about alcohol, sends newsletters about how they try to stop the increasing social and environmental pressure to drink, such as complaints. CAAN has recently filed a complaint against the “Toohey’s” advertisement featuring ‘inflatable air dancers’ because the advertisement provides a strong appeal to children and adolescents that breach the Alcohol Beverages Advertising Code.
To begin with in paragraph 1 it states,” The boys boasted about sneaking beers on a Saturday night… They were cool.” This shows that kids need to be more careful of what they are doing because this can be a habit which is really bad. Furthermore, this also illustrates that adults should care about their children more and tell them not to do all this because it can be painful. Jan Hoffman explains in paragraph 4 that,” They’re still living in their middle-school world.” This shows that these behaviors are caused by drugs. Moreover, this exemplifies how teenagers are drinking and are dropping out of high-school. All in all adults need to be more careful about what their children is doing in school and outside especially from taking drugs and doing risky
The study of adolescent alcohol dependency is a growing field and offers both captivating and alarming discoveries because more and more younger children are depending on alcohol to function on a daily basis. You would be surprised to know how many young individuals are now dependent on alcohol because of the false advertisement that happens through television commercials and through social influences that surround these
Both articles have many similarities; both agree that binge drinking is a problem among adolescents across the country. Binge drinking is defined by both articles as, “five or more drinks in a row for boys and four or more drinks in a row for girls” (Wuethrich, p.58-59). Both articles agree that one major
Presidents of college campuses around the nation face issues of underage drinking and binge drinking on a regular basis and realizes that it is a danger and a problem. “Alcohol consumption is the third leading cause of death in the U.S., a major contributing factor to unintentional injuries, the leading cause of death for youths and young adults, and accounts for an estimated 75,000 or more deaths in the United States annually” (Wechsler 2010). Binge drinking can be loosely defined as consuming five or more drinks at one sitting for men and four drinks for women. Binge drinking amongst college students is a social activity that allows students to let loose and “fit in”.
Teenagers are not the brightest human beings. Teenagers are going through changes, different emotions, and hormones that they don’t necessarily know how to deal with. Many teens use alcohol and other bad things to cope with these issues. They are ignorant about the use of it and they think they are “so bad” when they do it. In both of the stories, “An Ounce of Cure” by Alice Munro and “Greasy Lake” by T.C. Boyle, the main characters are teenagers whose ignorance gets them in trouble. In both stories, the main theme is that the teenagers are confused about their identity and how to cope with stressors in their life, which leads them to abusing alcohol and getting in major trouble.
VII. A. When Teens are not taught to drink in moderation they end up binge drink when they drink alcohol.
“According to the CDC, about 90% of all teen alcohol consumption occurs in the form of Binge Drinking, which experts say peaks at the age of nineteen.” (qtd by Listfield). Binge Drinking is the consumption of excessive amounts of alcohol in a short period of time. The author, Emily Listfield, defines that the standard alcohol consumption over a two hour period is considered to be four beers for women and five beers for men. This has become a great distraction for college students nationwide and a major dilemma on college campuses. Nearly two hundred thousand students visit emergency rooms each year due to the abuse of alcohol, and more than one thousand seven hundred students die. In the article “ The Underage Drinking Epidemic”, Listfield identifies the problems that underage drinking can cause, the dangers that could happen, and four solutions on what parents can do to keep their kids from binge drinking.
For my research project I decided to look at binge drinking in teens. Binge drinking interested me because so many teenagers drink alcohol when they go out and don’t know what consequences it has on the body. Binge drinking is the consumption of an unreasonable amount of alcohol in a short period of time. I have chosen to research ‘What are the psychological and physiological effects of binge drinking in teens?’. I chose this question because I wanted to inform myself and other teens on the effects of binge drinking. The research methods used throughout my research were internet articles and a survey.
The adolescent period of a human is the developmental phase of child to adult. During this time in a human’s life the entire body is developing rapidly, there are many factors that can affect the natural development. Alcohol is one of the most common depressants used and abused by adolescents which can alter the development of the body, especially the development of the brain. “When data from the World Health Organization’s Global Burden of Disease study were used to calculate cause-specific disability-adjusted life years for young people aged 10–24 years, the main risk factors were found to be alcohol.” (Marshall, 2014) There are many reasons why adolescents use alcohol, whether they are aware of the potential consequences
Nearly 25 percent of teens drink alcohol because they think it is fun; however the problems it may bring are not so fun (Hyde 22). There over six times more teen deaths per year from alcohol than any other drug (O’Malley 30). Alcohol affects the body of teens as well as all of the developmental processes. A major issue of teens drinking is that it increases the chance of becoming an alcoholic in the future; which leads to lowered self-control, impaired judgment, and lowered inhibition (Heath 12). Alcohol can completely change the life of a teen from the time they start drinking till death. Alcohol affects so many aspects of a person’s life and once it does, it is so hard to get life back to normal. Alcohol effects teens by harming them
- The message in the story is to always think of family above everything else, nothing should come between a family and definitely not alcoholics. When an adult get´s a responsibility (A kid in this case) they should be more likely to understand that there would be nothing more important than the responsibility. Uncle Archie forgets all about that when he goes to the pub to get something
