Coming Out Swinging Escapism inside of the fantasy genre is extensive, to say the least. You could even say it is was makes the show Vikings retain its viewership. The fifth season of Vikings is set to premiere on The History Channel by the end of this month [November] and has drawn much attention from families around America and the United Kingdom alike. With 2.3 million people just viewing the trailer on YouTube, the hype for the newest season is thrilling or just sensational. The Suspense is rising and millions of people are strapped in and ready for the event opener of the action-pact, history filled, adventure. The pathos used in the storytelling of the series is extraordinary. It is a direct result as to why there is that sense of …show more content…
It's the challenges that the shows present that draws interest. They convey the struggles of actors in such an emotional way that it begins to convince the audience they are one. What studies have shown is that all of these battle-ready shows fanbases have in common is their love for stress. Now, from the start you may be wondering, who on earth likes stress? From the surface you are right. However, the stress that is being referenced to is that which is controlled, as well as short-lived. Think about it comparable a roller coaster at an amusement park. The drop after an everlasting wait to the top of the mountain-like hill is the sense of the protagonist winning a long and dawning battle. The most recent season finale of Vikings is a powerful example of this psychological effect. The television show starts off with a much-anticipated event from the previous episodes. Ragnar is thrown into a pit of snakes by the King of Northumbria. Laugh at his own death hailing Odin and awaiting his arrival into Valhalla, strikes fear into his enemies. Capturing this shot allows for a sense of anger and sadness drawn from the death of a sentimental character. The five sons of Ragnar were all told of the death of their beloved father by the god Odin himself. Making a foggy and raven filled appearance Odin summons himself into the presence of the sons wherever they are in the world. Informing them of
In the postmodern period of films, film-makers are constantly pushing the boundaries of genre definitions, as well as putting different genres into various new combinations. One such combination is the “fantasy-adventure” genre; This genre can be defined as narratives in which an otherworldly figure or situation interrupts the human real world or a human is a part of an otherworldly lifestyle. Within these parameters, the protagonist must overcome obstacles in a world full of physical and moral peril and accomplish a critical mission in order to save the society from whence they came. In short, the “fantasy-adventure” genre comes from the use of adventure stories to realistically ground the fantastical surroundings and situations in order to
It is easy to just say a few facts but as our audience are high school students we had to gain their attention via aesthetic appeal. When I mean is keep high school students interested in the show and not go on their phones. If we could not connect to them then I would utterly make us useless that is why we use pathos to keep the
The Reality TV Show I chose for this assignment is The Bachelor. This TV show is very dramatic and definitely leaves you on the edge of your seat. The Bachelor is about one man who is looking to find love, and approximately 20 women competing for his love. In the season I chose to watch, Sean Lowe is the bachelor. Each week he sends another women home until he is left with his future wife. The three episodes I chose to watch were the last three of the season. Which included the home town dates, the final two, and then the finale, where Sean picked the women he wants to spend the rest of his life with. This show is definitely odd; however, it is extremely entertaining. The audience for this show is typically female teenagers and
A study published in Psychology of Aesthetics, Creativity, and the Arts found that watching famous television dramas can increase your emotional intelligence, and make you more empathetic.
Beowulf has delighted and intrigued a wide array of people for centuries. The timeless nature is visible in modern-day extensions of this epic, through heroics and battles of good versus malevolent forces. Beowulf continues to appeal to sophisticated audiences because it tells the story of a great hero prevailing over evil, a timeless theme valued by society and portrayed by his counterparts in modern media, although these new heroes display more complex qualities.
In the best movies and tv shows they have some qualities in common. These qualities engaged us as the audience to watch the whole things instead of sleeping half way through it. These qualities make us feel what the character feel when something bad or good happen to him or her. Make us sad when a innocent character is killed. This lead us to tell all of our friends to watch this certain movie or tv show.
The Vikings have always been a part of history that I have been interested in. Back then, nothing came easily; they had to work for everything they wanted. I like the idea that they had to grow their own food and even make their own clothes and blankets. I also really think that their religion was neat, though complex as it is.
The television show stands to be viewed as if it was filmed on a handheld camera. The show has the tendency to be extremely awkward and people who do not take the time to watch a full episode will anticipate that the show may be identified as dull and a waste of time. One would feel that the show may be simple with no plot or meaning. However, after watching an entire episode, one will realize that a complex plot is not necessary to enjoy the show because of the awkward and entertaining relationships between the characters. Although, there are several plot twists that may catch the viewer’s
The Viking ship represented everything about the Vikings’ culture and they revered them with their artisanship, navigational skills, cunning fighting skills, and the ultimate honor of using a ship as a burial vessel for their elite. Vikings believed that when they died in a fight, “a warrior maiden called a Valkyrie escorted him to the Viking heaven” and once the man arrived, a new life began of fighting all-day and feasting all night (Winroth 231). This belief illustrates that the Vikings held fighting and feasting as extremely
They introduce us to a world where we always wanted to be and make a profound impact on the audience.
If one is familiar with the “Thrymskvitha”, then they know that Loki, the god of mischief, steals Mjolnir, the hammer which belongs to the god of thunder, Thor, and gives it to Thrym, the Jotunn king. The giant king, in turn, wants Freyja, the goddess of love, to give him her hand in marriage. Freyja refuses to do this, and in a twist of fate for the god of thunder, he is convinced by Heimdall to adorn Freyja’s bridal gown and travel to the hall of the Jotunn king to reclaim his stolen hammer. Once the Jotunn king brings out the hammer to
We all remember our first fantasy experience. Whether you were binge-reading Tolkien nestled in between the bookshelves at your local library or was fascinated with the mythical world of Harry Potter when you first saw Daniel Radcliffe’s glasses clad face on the big screen, fantasy had a way of slipping a little magic and mystique into our lives without us even realizing. As someone who grew up wanting to be an elf-wizard-barbarian hybrid, I know just how much the fantasy genre can impact one’s life. However, what we rarely think about is how our own magic-less society affects fantasy. Yes, humble Nord, you influenced these mythical worlds without even realizing it just as they influenced you.
Mythology and Beowulf has illuminated parts of my life in the form of movies. The Mythology behind these movies who make me who I am is such a significant part of my life. My depression is a part of my life I don’t like to show others, but movies allow me to escape the pain I suffer in my mundane life. I especially love movies with rich mythologies, like Star Wars and Harry Potter. I think stories with a rich mythology allow me to escape even more than your average movie, because the wealth of knowledge needed to fully understand the history of the world you are in. I think the depth involved with these types of stories is what allows me to feel all the weight of the world lifted off my shoulders. For me the direct correlation is that stories involving a mythology illuminate relief and happiness in my life. A recent example is the new film Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them, they took the life of an author of a textbook that Harry Potter was required to read as a first year and they are turning it into a five film franchise. The written and screen mythology of Harry Potter is so in-depth that they took such a minute character and are creating this story around him, and it feels very genuine to the old stories and entirely new at the same time. These instances are when it makes me feel so great
Which is very enjoyable for the audience too see the character (s) they became infatuated with play a new and exciting role. For example, when Evan Peters first started on the show he played a 17-year-old psychiatric patient harboring dark secrets, even though he played the role of a disturbed mentally unstable ghost, he immediately became the heartthrob of the show. As the show continues into different seasons he became less mental persay and more mature and adult like and still captured the hearts of millions.
First of all, to make a great television show, the show needs to have heaps of drama inside it. In the show Degrassi, a show about high school drama, one teen girl was pregnant and believed the father was a guy she randomly hooked up with, but later found out the father was her ex boyfriend, who she was still in love with after on and off break ups. The drama made people interested in the show, because the audience wanted to know what happens to the love triangle. Degrassi episodes are intense with drama, and that makes the show great. In Riverdale, a suspenseful show about the murder of the schools well-liked quarterback, the richest families secrets are unfolded as they solve the murder, to find out the quarterback's father killed him. Throughout the
