Veterinary Technician
Introduction
Growing up, like any other kid, I loved animals. I always had a dog, cat, turtle, or even a fish throughout my childhood. This is partially the reason I started looking into being a veterinary technician, or vet tech. Every day in the office of a vet tech is different. As soon as someone walks in, there is a variety of options of what would happen on any given day and a wide variety of animals I would work with. I believe that I would make an excellent vet tech due to the fact that I work well with the public, my love for animals, and my dedication to my work. It is a full-time career that requires long hours and commitment. The Bureau of Labor Statistics documents that “ many veterinary technicians work at least 40 hours per week, with busier practices often staffing two shifts each day...also assist veterinarians at emergency vet hospitals open during nights, weekends and holidays,” (“Work Environment”). These hours leads to minimal downtime and a heavy workload for the vet tech, which has lead to an increase in the demand for their profession. The exam rooms are standard with an examination tables, computer for some, and various standard checkup equipment. As a veterinary technician, they “conduct initial patient physical exams, primarily on dogs and cats...obtain X-rays, collect blood and urine specimens for lab analysis, and assist with surgical procedures,” which is what differentiates a technician from an assistant (“Work Environment”). A technician goes to school to learn how to use the machines and conduct procedures, unlike the assistant who only has to have a high school

Veterinary technicians are like the techies of the theatre; the organization would be able to function without them, but it would be much harder. Things run a lot more smoothly with vet techs. There are multiple benefits that come with being a veterinary technician. These benefits include, but are not limited to, a high job outlook, great room for advancement, and only two years of schooling (depending on the route you take). Above all, the animals, who aren’t always able to help themselves, are
turtles, and more. My initial interest in veterinary sciences was evoked at the young age of nine years old, when my horse was in labor. I recall the veterinarian arriving and asking me if I would like to assist him in delivering my horses foal. He walked me through the steps in which he was taking, and with every explanation, I became exceedingly more intrigued. Over the years, my interest increased, which led me to the desire of becoming a veterinary technician. Though my research, I have decided
I chose the careers veterinary medicine, computer forensics investigator, and information security analysist. I chose them because I find each of these fields interesting in their individual aspects. I chose veterinary medicine because it is my dream job, and I wanted to find out more on it. I chose computer forensics investigator because I find this field interesting and I like studying cases that involve disappearances, murders, or other crimes dealt with by computer forensics investigators. Veterinary Technology Personal Statement My primary motivation to become a registered veterinary technician is to learn and do more in the field of animal care. My experience working directly with animals has been incredibly rewarding. More than anything, it has shown me how important attention to detail and the most basic tasks can be. I have developed a healthy respect for the often tedious and demanding labor that is required to keep animals healthy and happy and I am quite comfortable taking
