The doctors and technicians have taught me so much about working in an animal hospital and I have been given so many opportunities that I would have never gotten before. Over the years I have been continuously trained and now I assist the doctors in surgeries, administer medicine and vaccinations and fluids, and provide post-surgical care to the animals. In the years that I have worked there I have logged over 1,000 clinical hours, which is way over the required amount to be admitted into many veterinary schools. I have been able to see first-hand how great of an impact this field of study makes on an animal’s life and well-being. These experiences have opened my eyes on the importance of helping these creatures because they were not given a voice of their own.

You have a lot of heroic veterinarian doctors who see the intrinsic value in saving the lives of animals. One doctor, in particular, even performs on wild, injured animals that he meets. In fact, he has performed miracles on pets who were otherwise paralyzed. Dr. Evan Antin, a man who has dedicated his life to helping and understanding the endangered and most exotic animals, has gone somewhat viral on the Internet, but it has been for a more curious reason than what you might expect.

I have challenged myself in many ways throughout my educational life. One area of interest that I am proud I have pursued is my contribution to the community, by volunteering at Cats Only Veterinary Clinic. This position taught me a lot about myself and helped me learn about some areas I would like to explore in the future. I have been spending extra time learning information about the biology and chemistry of a cat to help me with my future educational goals. The Veterinarians at the Cats Only Clinic have been extremely kind to me by letting me get involved in learning more about the science behind cats. The occupation of a veterinary physician is an arduous but rewarding career that takes many years to achieve. Without this occupation, many individuals and families would be left lacking a major source of happiness in their lives. The main items enquired about this profession are the salary and obligations of the job, the education necessary, and the advantages and disadvantages.

Growing up, animals have played a very substantial role in my life, and remain to today. These animals include dogs, cats, horses, pigs, chickens, turtles, and more. My initial interest in veterinary sciences was evoked at the young age of nine years old, when my horse was in labor. I recall the veterinarian arriving and asking me if I would like to assist him in delivering my horses foal. He walked me through the steps in which he was taking, and with every explanation, I became exceedingly more intrigued.

Standing at the door of that emergency room, I saw beauty in the way that the doctor refused to give up as well as the tragedy of the inevitability of the dogs’ passing. Losing a patient or watching a family break into tears because they cannot afford care is tragic but as I’ve gotten older I’ve realized that the world is not black and white. It is essential to consider both the magnificence the field has to offer while acknowledging its somber side. In veterinary medicine, you can heal not only one innocent animal but also the family that animal has brought together. The satisfaction of the never-ending opportunity to learn and educate others, to make clients feel listened to, and to watch love pour between an animal and their owner cannot be measured.

I have always had an interest in animals, having grown up alongside multiple pets; they have always been a part of my life. However, it wasn't until our beloved family dog fell ill with cancer that I began to realise the huge impact that a vet can have on the lives of both animals and humans and, I too, wanted to be able to help the lives of not only animals, but also the people who love them. My desire to study veterinary science was reinforced during my first work experience at a small animal practice, Vets4Pets. I witnessed several operations, from spays and castrations, to multiple dental procedures and a tumour removal from a Labrador.

Ever since I can remember I have always had a passion for animals. Their beauty and ability to comfort me are only outmatched by their honesty, loyalty and faithfulness. My path to realizing that my true calling lies in veterinary medicine began when I took a life biology course in high school. In this course I realized my intrigue with animals went far beyond their cute and cuddly parts. I was interested in how they worked from the inside and realized that I should be their doctor.

My initial interest in veterinary medicine began during my childhood when I developed responsibility in providing care for all animals. I had hands on experiences when exercising proper herd health techniques with our veterinarian for our cow/calf operation. I learned how to vaccinate, create a balanced nutritional diet, and prepare for each calving season. I also became fascinated with the human-animal bond when training a Leader Dog for the Blind and showing livestock around the state of Indiana. My experiences with having a connection with animals and taking care of them encouraged me to further investigate the veterinary profession.

I have always been around animals, I’ve lost count of how many pets I’ve had. My pets are my family, and my family has played a huge part in who I am. I’ve wanted to be a Veterinarian since I was little, I’ve always wanted to help animals in need. My cat Gizmo, was found in the middle of a busy road near our house, the box that contained him and his siblings had been hit, and he was the only survivor. The moment he got home I knew what to do, I could tell he was too small to eat solids, so I went with my dad to get a bottle and formula. After weeks of care, we knew he was a part of our family. However, that experience made me realize that the actual medical care of animals would be hard for me, as I care deeply for all animals. Though, a few new options came to my attention during high school.

First I have to say that over the years I have developed a deep passion for animals, science and research. It all started in my childhood as my veterinarian parents gave me the chance to be in touch with rural people, animals and animals´ health problems at a very young age. After those experiences, I decided to become a veterinarian myself. My particular interest in sciences and constant study allowed me to graduate from Veterinary Medicine with honors. As a veterinarian I have been oriented to attend large animals and to work with rural communities to promote animal health and livestock breeding.

I am proud to announced that I headed the veterinary team of eight DVMs and over fifty support personnel in small animal general emergency and integrative medicine practice. Supervised veterinary student, technician and assistant students internship programs. I also spearheaded the Pilchuck University to provide frequent internal education opportunities for veterinary team support staff.
