Waxing Your Vehicle Is Important

You might spring for the extra buck or two to get your vehicle waxed when you take it to a car wash, but do you bother with waxing it at home? If you like washing your ride in your yard or driveway, don’t skimp on the waxing step of the project. There are good reasons to do this task aside from making the car look shiny and new – unless, of course, your car has a matte or flat finish, in which case it shouldn’t be waxed or polished.

Some vehicle owners find the process of waxing the exterior relaxing and enjoy doing this type of TLC on their car or truck. Others feel that it’s boring or a hassle, or they simply don’t have the time.

Even knowing the advantages of waxing may not be enough to motivate you to do this task if you really don’t care for it. If that’s the case, at least wash your vehicle every few weeks -- and more often during the winter if you live in an area with road salt. Upgrade to the service that includes wax, or go to a car wash that includes it with the basic wash. Spray waxes at automatic car washes don’t provide the level of protection you get by applying a liquid or paste by hand, but it’s better than none at all.

In addition, bring your vehicle to a detailing shop two or three times a year and have them do a professional waxing. Having a product applied before winter and again before spring helps protect your vehicle against the aspects associated with the cold and hot
