In the middle of the lower coastal plains of Georgia lies a city called Valdosta. Named in honor of Val d’Aosta a plantation home of former Governor George troup. Valdosta has always been a popular gathering place it started off with the Creek and Seminole Indians. Spanish missionaries also American pioneers lived in Valdosta. Fertile and beautiful land intrigued people to make their homes here. Established in 1825 first county seat in 1828 Valdosta’s history has been closely tied into the soil the town was built on sandy loam. Allowed the city to become the inland for Sea Island cotton. When cotton crops were devastated by the boll weevil in the early 1900s, other crops such as pecans, peanuts and tobacco rose in popularity. Historical Earthquake Events …show more content…
