In November 2010, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, Housing Commissioner Paul Graziano, and senior housing officials introduced their new initiative--Vacants to Value (V2V)—to an overflow audience that responded to their plans of optimization and a sense of readiness. V2V took a market analysis of Baltimore neighborhoods to determine their potential for development. It then compares the geography of the market findings with the geography of vacant properties to identify areas for different types of stabilization, rehabilitation, and development incentives and support.
Demographic Overview Low income housing, high percentage of African America, number of row houses potentially converted for business. Some evidence of mixed economics between run-down and gentrification projects. Very few business professionals walking, mostly urban poor.
On August 26, 2016 at approximately 2240 hours, I (Officer Furr #9345) was dispatched to 7932 Glenarden Pkwy, Glenarden, Md 20706 for a vandalism. On scene I spoke with (V-1) Alonzo Maurice Christin Barber who stated that he parked his Honda Accord bearing Maryland registration plates (4CC6798) outside his apartment complex at approximately 1400 hours on August 25th 2016. (V-1) advised me that when he returned to his vehicle at 2240 hours he noticed his driver's side window was shattered and a brick on the floor of the driver's seat.
Each site slated for secure indoor wireless had a site survey done. The site survey method was top-down with the roof as the starting point. As with most site surveys the locations for equipment was identified and the cabling pathways were determined. In addition, a wireless survey was performed to identify possible sources of interference and find best install sites for AP’s. This was performed using wireless analysis tools to get the best installation places.
Since the founding of the United States, European settlers and Native Americans have had numerous disputes regarding Indian Territory. The European settlers and the Native Americas fought over land allotments, assimilation processes and basic human rights. However, Native Americans were not the only individuals to feel the effects of systemic racism. The Cherokee people who owned former slaves of African descent were called “freedmen.” Freedmen individuals felt the damages of systemic racism from the Native Americans and European settlers during the 1800s. Native Americans like the Europeans, also owned slaves during the Civil War. The Freedmen Controversy was and continues to be a volatile issue because the Cherokee Nation established certain practices, laws, and other tribal rights, which questions the membership status of the freedmen. The Cherokee Nation implemented multiple strategies to make this issue controversial for people of African descent and others as well.
This report will be on the research I have discovered first hand as well as through statistical data that compares and contrasts the neighborhoods of Greenbush and Burke Heights, both located in Madison, Wisconsin. When researching these two neighborhoods, I focused on the neighborhoods housing statistics, demographics of their residents, and the money circulating within the neighborhoods. Another aspect I paid attention to while comparing the neighborhoods was the economic and employment opportunities available within the communities. These benefits directly correlate to the amount of capital that is available for residents. Lastly, I took note of the entertainment, retail, and physical possibilities that prevailed in these neighborhoods.
Growing up in East Austin, one would be accustomed to seeing rundown neighborhoods inhabited mostly by African American and Hispanic working-class families. In the past few years though, the view has drastically changed. Now brightly colored two-story homes housing affluent Caucasian families occupy the once dilapidated areas. The previously desolated lots are now the future sites of lofts and condominiums. The recent changes in East Austin are a clear sign of gentrification. In looking at the City of Dallas Affordable Housing Programs, the focus of this report will be in the form of a two-part series. The first part will be a program evaluation that examines the quantitative numbers or measurable objectives, goals, & achievements as established by the City of Dallas Community Development & Housing Department over a five-year consolidated plan period; and the second part will be a program analysis that seeks to take this quantified data of the program evaluation and really measure how effective these Dallas housing programs have been in not only achieving pre-determined objectives and goals but in changing low-income area housing buying trends; through creating more housing choices for low-to-moderate income families; in bringing about more mixed-income neighborhoods; improving infill affordable housing development opportunities; thru providing financial and training opportunities of minority businesses; etc.

The process through which gentrification is carried out is very intricately planned. Drugs, prostitution, and violence usually play the most important role in the process of gentrification. When neighborhoods are infested by crime of any sort, the first thing that happens is the immediate decline in property value in areas like Guilford and Park Heights (“The Mortgage Bubble Invades Baltimore”). The home owning taxpayers in Baltimore City are usually blue collar workers who are just trying to make ends meet, and because of their income restrictions many of these citizens are forced to live in areas of high crime. Generally people only live in these areas if they have to, so when a developer comes along and offers to buy citizens homes at a price that the citizens at the time considers to be extremely profitable in their neighborhood, they usually take the money and run without carefully considering that the offer that they have accepted is much less profitable than what the developers have planned (“City’s East side Renaissance Spreads”). When a neighborhood is gentrified it will not only change the image of it, but also the services available there (Al-Kodmany 2011, 62-63). In other words, gentrification does not only have an impact on the physical aspect of the land, but also the resources that lie there. In Baltimore, the abandoned houses allowed investors to buy the houses and turn them into luxury condominiums and houses. In turn, this encourages other companies to continue to develop condominiums and houses and abandon the development of low-income housing. This cycle is called gentrification, but it is disguised as restoration to the city
“I took a trip to Oakland, California and fell in love with the area. We stayed at an Air B&B for the three days of our stay and the house was absolutely beautiful, it looked like my dream home. Despite all the glitz and glamour around us we noticed a large amount of homelessness compared to Columbus. We found out that this property is not someone’s home but a house used strictly as an Air B&B. When you hear something like that and see the amount of homelessness it makes you wonder how many of these homes are strictly for show? So after researching I found out, the reason for the rampant homelessness can be attributed to large increases in rent. Even worse, the cause for the increase is due to Silicon Valley” (Kasongo, 2017). Unfortunately, rent increasing virtually overnight is the reality of many low-income families. This situation is called gentrification and is felt throughout the world, from the Midwest, East coast or even Western Europe, no region is immune to this process. Gentrification in the Midwest is extensive and wide causing the displacement of many low-income minority residents which can lead to even bigger issues.
Gun laws are the cause for much of the violent crime in the United States and need to be changed by enforcing and assembling stricter regulations, allowing more concealed carries for protection, and educating Americans about firearms to reduce mass panic. Over the course of our history American has suffered from a substantial number of mass shootings; Columbine in Littleton, CO, Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C, Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA, and Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT. These mass shootings are just one side of the gun violence in America. There are also drive-bys, accidental shootings, and many other types of gun crimes. And these are all happening in different parts of the country and in different periods of time. They are tragedies that affect not only the people but our nation as a whole.
Nurses who work in the field of geriatrics, also known as gerontology, focus on caring for older adults. This is a high-demand practice area, because older people are more likely to require health services. Half of all hospital admissions are for patients over age 65, but only 1% of nurses are certified in geriatrics (ExploreHealthCareers.org, 2013).
