Explaining Socialism Assignment – Caitlin Taylor
Utopian Socialism: Utopian socialism focuses on the ideology of creating a perfect world that opposes the systems of classical liberalism. People who support a Utopian Society are often humanitarians, and fight for the rights of people. They fought for the rights of the working class, to improve their quality of life. This fighting, unlike the revolutions that ensued with the left wing Revolutionary Socialism, was peaceful and non-violent. The Utopians would use education to advocate their beliefs, allowing the natural laws of society to take over. Robert Owen was one of the main leaders of the Utopian revolutions, believing that the secret to a Utopian Society lay in the hands of the people,

These socialists believed that the world would be better off in the hands of the government, rather than allowing people to become wealthy exploiting other citizens for profits. With the economy run by the government, there is a better chance of having economic equality throughout the citizens, and thus no social classes. The main leader of this revolution against the inequality of the Industrial Revolution was Karl Marx. He saw the poor working conditions and the quality of life of the working class, and how this was all to benefit the wealth of a single person. He wanted a world in which everyone worked together to benefit each other instead. In order to begin the process of eliminating capitalism Marx wanted to place a single leader in power. This leader would control the market and the government as a dictator. Once this dictatorship created the necessary economic equality and distribution of wealth, the dictator would lose power. This would leave the citizens to work together on their own, benefiting society as a collective, rather than to a single power. Education would be free, and populations would disperse to abolish …show more content…
Most of the industry is privatized, and in the hands of the individual. The government does control some essential organizations, such as transportation and public utilities that are open to every citizen, rather than for a profit. Wealth is somewhat equalized, but there is still a focus on the profit of the individual. Decisions should be made by an elected majority, representing the interests of the individual, rather than the interests of the absolute power leader. This allows for the government to have the peoples benefit in mind when passing laws. The government’s only jobs are to provide security and equality for its people, acting as an intervention when the community’s best interest is not being met. Every individual has the right to decide how they live as an individual, without the state interfering. In the eyes of the law, every individual is treated equally, and no single person is above said law. While everyone is treated individually in their own life choices, people work together for the good of the community, helping create equality amongst the collective. Much like the Utopian Socialism, the reforms towards a democratic socialism civilization is peaceful and nonviolent. True democratic socialism only exists in a few countries around the world, such as Sweden, but even in Canada there have been parties
The socialists, believing everyone is equal, saw that the proletariat was being treated poorly and knew that would have to change. The cruel working conditions and little civil rights made a gap that no single man could cross without help. Many believed that socialism was the key. Socialism grew from the problems of the Industrial Revolution. The relationship of the Revolution to socialism was that of a problem to a solution, respectively. If not for the Industrial Revolution, the problems between the classes would never have grown so apparent. Then again, without the Industrial Revolution the world would be stuck in the past.
In 1848 Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels wrote “The Communist Manifesto”, and even had it published. Their main goal in writing this book was to completely get rid of capitalism. Karl Marx did not believe in social classes. He believed that everyone should live equal lives and personal ownership should not be allowed. According to Marx, everything should belong to the community, or working class.
Wealth is a predominant factor written within The Street. Petry uses her experience with both white and black families from the 1940’s to write The Street. The Chandler and the Pizzini family primarily portray wealth. “Who would have thought that the old Italian couple who ran the vegetable store would be living in a fine house in a fine neighborhood? How had they managed to do that on nickels and dimes they took in selling lettuce and grapefruit? . . .
Revolutionary socialist Karl Marx believed that the economic calculation problem should be solved adopting a communist approach; he expressed his ideas in his most notable work “The Communist Manifesto” in 1848. Marx believed that capitalism should be replaced by socialism and eventually communism and it should be done through abolishing markets, prices and private property. To understand Marx’s ideas it is important to define capitalism socialism and communism. Capitalism can be defined as ‘an economic and political system in which a country’s trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state’. On the other hand socialism can be defined as ‘a political and economic theory of social organization, which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole’.
The 1986 film The Mission depicts the relation of the Jesuits as a type of enlightening force for the Guarani people, that is able to organized theses people in way that was not before possible. The representation of the priest as these great liberators of knowledge by the movie is flattery, the natives where indeed capable of organizing themselves as a society that the films choses to ignore. The Guarani where not the pure molds that the movie presents, they contained there own original and optioned ideas on how society works after contact with the Jesuits and in the missions, a notable example of their ideas can be seen in religion. The natives are shown throughout the film of having weak constitution to their traditional spirituality, and this was not the cause in history. My argument is, the Guarini where not the passive molds for Christianity presented in the film, but where actually relatively organized in them believes of spirituality and held strong options on the subject. Supporting the argument against the films take will include: Ruiz de Montoya’s The Spiritual Conquest, a primary source form the prospective of a Jesuit priest during the time of The Mission; James Schofield Seager’s The Mission and Historical Missions: Film and the Writing of History, focuses on the historical issues riddled within the film; and lecture notes form Dr. Austin, discussing the actuality of what occurred in during the time period of The Mission.
Did you know that over 570,000 people are killed from drugs each year? Did you know that about 683,000 people are raped each year? Last, did you know that over one million people commit suicide every year? There are so many horrible things that happen in our world today that many know about it. Living in a utopian society would be much better and safer for people in the world.
In my personal opinion, there is no feasible way to create a true utopia in a world of imperfect humans, but there are many improvements we can make to America today. Criminals will always break the laws that keep us safe and happy, greedy aristocrats will always try to amass more than their fair share of wealth, and corrupt politicians will always lie and cheat to further their own agendas, but the doesn’t mean we can’t make the world we live in better. A few of the areas that we can definitely improve in the most are education, career benefits, welfare, and criminal justice.
Although this statement is true, it is not a complete socialist government I am pursuing, but only aspects of it. Places like Soviet Russia, and China implemented socialism to the extreme, and yet when one thinks of a socialist county, these are examples they think of. Also trying to execute socialism in underdeveloped countries, such as Soviet Russia and Natzi Germany, in opposed to America today, is almost impossible.
A utopia is modeled on or aiming for a state in which everything is perfect; idealistic. If a utopian society were to exist, everyone would want to leave, humankind likes to make their own decisions, and dislikes following one another. Everyone should have their own way of living. The world is filled with careless people and if we had a substandard ruler than that person will make deficient decisions that will destroy our lives. Therefore,
Marx’s theory was that socialism was inevitable, as capitalism entails “class rivalry”, where the higher and lower classes compete with each other to extract the most profit from each other (ei. the higher classes fight to make the most profit while paying employees as little as possible, as the lower classes fight to s earn as much money from the higher classes for as little effort as possible). A revolutionary war ensues which disrupts the class boundaries, and sets everyone on the same playing field, after which either a capitalistic democracy is reestablished and the cycle begins again, or a socialistic community is established where everyone works together for the greater good, instead of personal interests.
A utopia is a perfect society that would have no issues or problems so in this essay you will read about all the problems i would remove from our society today to create a perfect society. This may get a bit controversial but try to keep an open mind to these things and realize that it is my opinion. I will write on things such as removing religion due to peoples ability (or lack thereof) to accept them, electronics and the problems with social media or unsocial media I'd rather call it, and the redundancy of the education system and its negative effect on the youth. My utopia would have no religion, here is why the amount of blood shed because of religious differences is downright wrong if a god is all loving and all caring and he or she makes us in his or her image why aren't we all loving and all caring he or she should care enough to not allow such religious wars happen. Religion is the only reason we have equality issues because a human had a voice in his head telling him that being gay and being black was wrong (sounds like skitzophrenia to me) if religion didn't exist we wouldn't have discrimination or hate because of differences.
Karl Marx is the economist associated with communism. The goal was to establish a system where class distinctions were eliminated and the means of production were owned by the masses.
Karl Marx published in his writings that he had discovered the laws of socialism inevitably would replace capitalism. He determined socialism would create economic equality, eradicate poverty, end specialization, and abolish money, yet he offered no plan of how a future socialist society would be structured. Our society has become quasi socialistic but as the individual begins to establish productivity we can reverse the adverse affects of unemployment. Socialism is said to dwell in the simple life while capitalism is the life filled with luxuries.
Bourgeoisies had created towns, industries, factories, and with these had also created “weapons that bring death it itself.” The poor treatment of proletariats and other workers would be their downfall. Marx recognized the growing tensions in classes and used this to build support for communism. Through communism Marx explained that the government would control everything, property, factories, and all businesses. This way conditions could be monitored as well as have shared wealth.
Socialism is the underlying motivation behind communist movements in history. Socialists believe that it is unjust for a small amount of people to own the biggest portion of the wealth in society. This idea lead to the concept of a communist society, in which the existence of private property is eliminated in favor of government-owned property being shared among all it’s people. The government would provide jobs and care for all people equally. The idea was that through communism, there would be no social classes, thus eliminating alienation for any of the people in the society.
