A refugee is a person who was forced to leave their country. Whether it be from warfare or natural disaster, their homes are no longer safe to live in, so they need to relocate elsewhere. Once someone sets foot on the journey of becoming a refugee, they become vulnerable and dependent with no sense of what the future will bring. In an attempt to accommodate them, first world countries with the resources necessary to assist these refugees, are struggling to determine whether or not they should step-in and help. Some argue that taking them in could come with excessive consequences, while others believe they could be assets. Although there may be a few consequences, they are outweighed by the benefits and undeniable severity of the situation.

In this paper I will discuss about the Syrian refugees Crisis, the characteristics of the of Syrian refuges crisis, how similar or different it the Syrian refugee crisis is from other refugee crisis, how Syrian refugee crisis affects individuals, families, and communities, what relevant research exists on the Syrian refugee crisis, and what key strategies have been known to be useful in this crisis, how one promote resilience in this crisis and how the social workers personal value affect him/her in addressing this crisis.

Imagine that you are in your home, and you hear a bomb go off. You then hear countless horrific sounds of guns going off and explosives detonating. You look outside and you see your home, your country, ruined. Then you realise that you can;t stay in your country much longer or else you and your family will get killed. You know that you are about to become a refugee. Believe it or not, this is not uncommon. According to Al Jazeera, over 5,000 men, women and children have died on their search of protection and a better life in 2015. This is a shocking and horrible number that will sadly raise in 2016 because countries are not being open to letting in refugees. This is disturbing, because these refugees are going to seek better lives, and escape wars that they were never part of. It is unfair and immoral to deny refugees a home in your country. It goes against the Declaration of Human Rights. Refugees deserve a better life, and it is unfair and immoral to deny them. Resolved: countries denying the entry of refugees should be denied of their membership to the United Nations. Although many people don’t want to get involved with helping refugees find new homes, it is everyone’s responsibility and the countries should lose their Membership of the UN by refusing to help.

According to the United Nations (U.N.), the total number of children deaths has been over 8,500, including 2,000 under the age of 10 (Omer 1). This brutal war has undoubtedly affected the lives of many Syrian citizens, and while the death toll continues to rise, the lives of Syrian children are being affected the most, as they are most vulnerable to the damage. Anthony Lake, the executive director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), says that “Never in recent memory have so many children been subjected to such unspeakable brutality” (Omer 1). While many children are being affected by crises around the world, UNICEF’s executive director believes that this war that has been going on for half a decade is what has been most cruel towards children because of the violent nature of the war that takes place amongst them. Wynn Flaten, the director of World Vision’s Syria Crisis Regional Response team, says that refugee children “need special protection. They need to get into schools. Even when they can get in, often the classrooms are overflowing with extra students, or they are bullied to such an extent that they no longer even want to go” (Omer 2). The war is affecting the children greatly, as when they try to get the education they want, they are often rejected by either the school or the bullies within them. A constant rain of bombings, bullets and fires that burn down their communities plague the cities of Syria. It is due to this that the large number of fleeing refugees from the Middle East is continuing to grow. In Recent times, migration has become common, and the reason for migration is often access to better education and the cleaner environment. However, some migration is not by choice. Forced migration occurs in a less stable region due to the war or environment problem. The term forced migration refers to those who are compelled to leave their own town or country. This essay will explain the impacts of forced migration, particularly refugees. The definition of refugee, which is given by the united nations (as cited in Forced Migration,2011), is someone who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, conflict, or natural disaster. Focus on this definition, it means the war and the natural disaster are problems which can make refugees. It will focus on adult mental health, human rights and child issues.

War refugees are defined in many ways. Those people who have been forced to flee his or her country due to the war, violence, persecution crime and murder they called refugee. They have a kind of fear of persecution because of religion, race, nationality, political ideology or support in particular social groups or parties. Wessels, W. K. (2014, p.9) has mentioned that “refugees are no longer able to live safely in their home countries due to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for their “religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion” (United Nations, 2008, p.4). In turn, refugees are forcibly displaced to countries outside of their country of origin seeking safety and protection (2008). Refugees are defined as people who experienced or are at risk of experiencing persecution so much so that a person’s freedom and life would be or was threatened by “the threat of death, or the threat of torture, or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment” (2008, p. 3)”.
