By reviewing and analysing the chart we can as employees identify where our areas of self development are needed.
There are many tools and techniques available to assess and develop our skills such as observations, evaluations, one-to-ones, peer feedback for example. Detailed below are two of the tools which I have utilised to assess current skills and abilities and highlight my development needs which are:
1. SWOT Analysis
The SWOT analysis is a useful way of thinking about your current working position and can help you plan towards your further development.
It is also important to consider the MACRO environment whilst planning for future areas for development as these factors can have an impact on possible training. PESTLE is a useful tool to enable us to do this. PESTLE assesses the market, including competitors, from the standpoint of a particular proposition or a business. PESTLE becomes more useful and relevant the larger and more complex the business or proposition, but even for a very small local business a PESTLE analysis can still throw up one or two very significant issues that might otherwise be missed.
The SIX elements in PESTLE vary in significance depending on the type of business, eg., social factors are more obviously relevant to consumer businesses or a B2B business close to the consumer-end of the
In order to prioritise goals and targets for my own professional development, I look at the influences that have helped me to develop my performance so far and look at what my training has taught me and how it’s reflected in my work. I examine my strengths and weaknesses honestly and try to think about the way I practice in a constructive way. I have to evaluate myself by asking;
SWOT analysis provides a structure for analyzing either your own strengths and weaknesses, and the opportunities and threats you face, or in a work context for analyzing the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats a business or event faces. Ideally it is one step in a process which helps you to
A SWOT analysis is a method used to illustrate the current position of a business. The model helps identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of an organisation. The model below is an analysis of the current position of Brompton Bicycles. Brompton Bicycles is a manufacturer of folding bicycles and are based in London.
As a tutor I will carry out various methods of assessment to maintain continuous improvement; I also involve my learners in the process.
Continual Self-Development is the approach where an individual takes prime responsibility and ownership for their own learning and development. This approach requires motivation and commitment in order to exploit learning opportunities and minimise the impact of weakness. A continuing self-development should be undertaken in partnership with the organisation and self-development should enhance the role held within the organisation. There are many benefits to be derived from continual self-development: improve performance and self-confidence; identify and develop specific skills and qualities; increase learning capacity; help achieve potential.

* Self-evaluation: ask the person to describe how they think they are progressing. * Observation: direct observation of how the person is performing in their role. * Feedback: from people who use the service and their close networks as well as colleagues. * Reflection: ask the person to reflect on an aspect of their work, usually a specific incident, and explain what they learned from it. * Questions: to test the person understanding of a topic in more depth. * Evidence: of accredited training in a particular area.

The PESTLE analysis is a tool which ‘allows a manager to identify the key macroeconomic factors that influence the future development of the business’ 50MINUTES. (2015, pp. 5).
(a) There are typically six assessment methods that we can chose to employ within your role. These are listed below along with examples of when and how they could be implemented:
SWOT Analysis SWOT Analysis is a very effective way of identifying your Strengths and Weaknesses, and of examining the Opportunities and Threats you face. Carrying out an analysis using the SWOT framework helps to focus activities into areas where the business are strong and where the greatest opportunities lie. Strengths: * What advantages do you have?
According to Nicole Fallon of the Business News Daily, a SWOT analysis is an analytical framework that can help any company face its greatest challenges and find its most promising new markets, by identifying the organization’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (2017). It allows for an extensive evaluation of the company’s internal and external resources as well as current and future threats that the company may face. This process can be a great asset in determining and exploring new initiatives, as it helps to identify areas of improvement within the organization while helping with the facilitation and implementation of new business policies. This process is crucial in refreshing the strategies and tactics of any
(a). Perform a personal SWOT analysis (see Appendix 1) to evaluate your current work performance and work environment to determine skill gaps and potential pathways to achieve this professional development goal.
A SWOT analyze helps to show what strengths to continue to promote, What weaknesses the company needs to address and fix, the opportunities that management needs, consider for the company to become stronger, and finally, what threats that need to be addressed so that the management can try to develop a plan to help the company thrive. Without some idea of what they are up against as far as the four items in a SWOT, most managers would not have an idea of where the company was heading in the
The PESTLE analysis tool is one of many used to help managers identify their market positioning and provide managers insight on potential threats and opportunities that the business could face giving the business a potential advantage and competitive advantage over competitors.
