Have you ever stopped to think how much you would do for your family? You should think about what Immigrants do for their family. Immigrants cross the border everyday. Americans think that they just "walk over", "no big deal." You never hear the real story; you never hear how they are treated. Once they actually get across, they get to live like they deserve, lavishly, right? That's far from the truth. They cross the border and get low-paying jobs (usually 2 dollars an hour) and that's still better then what they would receive in their homeland. Isn't that something? Some Americans say that Immigrants are taking away jobs. What American would be willing to work for 2 dollars an hour as a janitor or maid? Not many. One American women, …show more content…
It also explains what happens while crossing the river, "The River is swollen and its swift current makes a sound like that of a coming storm. The water is dirty and thick and stained gray, like the color of dirt on the riverbank. Pieces of wook and branches flost on it's surface." Martin and the other immigrants make it safely across but that's not always the case. In USA Today Newspaper, headline reads "Mexico captures 12 suspects linked to deadly migrant smuggling." Apparently, 19 illegal migrants were killed due to being succumbed to the heat after being locked inside an 18-wheeler's airless trailer. You can find statistics that state hundreds of illegal migrants that die a year. They never have a chance to get a job or return to their family.
Contrary to what Americans believe, immigrants are not taking jobs away from Americans. In Immigration News: New Study Declares Immigration to be a Plus, it states that "Immigration benefits the American economy and overall and has little negative effect on the income and job opportunities of most native-born U.S. citizens." When you look at shops or restaurants in California, Texas, or New York, who do you notice that's running most of those shops and restaurants? Immigrants, whether they're Mexican, Asian, or Natives. Instead of taking away jobs, they create jobs by opening businesses. They spend their income on American goods, and pay taxes; this
Some Mexicans come to America to escape the harsh living back in their home country. Although, Americans have a reason to be angry about mexicans coming into their country it shouldn’t be a reason to make the Mexican people look bad. In the poem it says “I hear Mexicans are taking your jobs away. Do they sneak into town at night, and as you’re walking home with a whore, do they mug you, a knife at your throat, saying, I want your job?”. This gives us the idea that the American people are portraying us as criminals as if they go into their town and threaten them for their jobs.
Undocumented immigrants make up a large portion of the workforce doing jobs that are undesirable to many people. They leave their stable live in search of better opportunities for their family. The people who come to the united states do not come because of their own benefit. They come in search of benefitting their next generation. Immigrant workers know that the position that they are in is not the best and is more difficult to change their own path in life, so they put their focus on raising children in an environment where their children can see the benefit if certain commodities like an education. Although they have difficult jobs with small compensations and no benefits, they continue to work to serve as an example that hard work is the
There are 11 million people living in America today that are undocumented or illegal immigrants. As many people in the country are divided on which side to fight for in the fight over immigration both sides can have valid points. While undocumented immigrants could be more willing to take the lesser, underappreciated jobs that nobody wants, they’re taking jobs from American citizens who are legally here who deserve to take care of their families. Undocumented Immigrants hurt the economy as they take jobs from american citizens and pay lower taxes causing citizens to have to pay higher taxes.
One of the main points of rhetoric used when trying to show how undocumented immigrants are bad for Americans is that they are taking our jobs. This for the most part is false, in fact undocumented immigrants actually have raised wages for people working skilled jobs by more than 10 percent. This happens because they can be more productive because of the help they get doing the non-skilled work they used to do. The only people who are negatively affected by undocumented immigrants are adults who do not have a high school education. They have seen a decrease in wages between 0.4 and 7.7 percent (Davidson). While there has been a slight decrease in wages for non-high school this does not necessarily mean that they are taking our jobs. There have been many studies looking into whether or not the jobs that a majority of
There is question on whether or not the immigrants will help or hurt the economy. Some say immigrants will take jobs from Americans and damper U.S. tax rolls because they aren’t as skilled or educated. The fact is immigrants actually increase “overall wages and the pool of jobs” and add to the U.S. revenue (Dwoskin). In 2006 there was a suspected “21 million immigrants, about 15 percent of the labor force, [that] h[e]ld jobs in the U.S.” However, the U.S. only had about seven million unemployed. “So the majority of immigrants can't literally have "taken" jobs; they must be doing jobs that wouldn't have existed had the immigrants not been here,” (Lowenstein). Roger Lowenstein also presents a valid and insightful point in stating that immigrants who take these jobs that “wouldn’t have existed”, relative prices could be lowered in a similar way that global trade does.
Illegal immigration is a big problem in the United States. One of the big problems is lost jobs. Millions of American citizens are out of jobs because of foreclosure caused by illegal immigrants. Jobs that are less alluring are being taken over by illegal immigrants. So the Americans who would take these jobs to provide for their families now can't.
Contrary to what most Americans believe, illegal immigrants are not causing our economy to weaken, in fact, they are causing just the opposite. Immigration enforcement has increased greatly in the past few years and undocumented immigrant workers are being deported much more frequently. America refuses to recognize the positive impact these illegal workers have on our economy. Without the surplus of illegal immigrant workers in the U.S. our country’s economy would suffer greatly. Illegal immigrant workers help our economy flourish and they positively influence the American workforce.
A common biased opinion on immigration is that immigrants coming to the United States are taking American jobs. According to the Immigration Policy Center, “research indicates there is little connection between immigrant labor and unemployment rates of native-born workers.” The jobs that immigrants are taking are the low-budget jobs that Americans do not want. They not only get less pay, but also less benefits in comparison to American workers. In fact, according to Forbes, “illegal immigrants actually raise wages for documented/native workers.” America is considered to be more productive when we have more trading partners, Undocumented workers with limited English skills allows more American workers
In summary, data shows that immigrants are not out to steal jobs from American workers or lower wages. Immigrants come into America to fill jobs that are available, or attempt to establish their own businesses. By maintaining strict immigration policies the United States is also preventing its growth. We should be aware that immigrants do provide many benefits to our country, and that our immigration policies are in need of improvements that will allow immigrants and our country to reap the full benefits of our immigration system.
Since the immigrants came to the country, job employment has gone down and the Americans interpret that in a bad way because they think that the immigrants are taking away opportunities from them. Although job employment has gone down, that doesn't mean that it's ruining the chances Americans have to work, “We found little to no negative effect on overall wages and employment of native workers in the long term” (Preston). SInce immigrants are working so much, they create their own businesses. By creating their own company, they provide work for the Americans. It gives Americans another chance to find a job, “High skilled immigrants, especially in technology and science, who have come in larger numbers in recent years, had a significant “positive impact” on Americans with skills” (Preston). Immigrants give Americans the opportunity to find another job. If the immigrants were taking their jobs away, they wouldn't be hiring them to start out with. Americans are being payed full price and fairly, the immigrants are not favoring foreigners. Immigrants are more optimistic on taking on jobs that the Americans didn't
The fact of the matter is that they are not taking jobs from others, but simply working the ones many do not desire. The jobs these illegal immigrants work are low education service jobs, such as cleaning, dishwashing, cooking, and construction. These jobs do not require much education which makes it easy for them to work them. Employers will hire them since they are cheap labor making the employer more money. Even the migrating jobs involved with agriculture, less Americans are migrating to the illegal immigrants do. Even with the low paying jobs, illegal immigrants still account for 15% of the American workforce (Hoban). Although they may be assisted by the government through the welfare system, some are trying to generate economic growth; however, this does not dismiss the fact they have entered illegally and should be punished through
Illegal immigration has caused a lot of controversy within the United States. The media has influenced our society to make us believe that illegal immigrants are horrible people. One thing that I have learned throughout life is, “Man is born free; and everywhere he is in chains (Rousseau 4).” This sums up how society dictates our lives and limits us to what the media wants to us to believe. Whether it is legal or illegal, everybody should be treated equally. Illegal immigrants might always end up with the short end of the stick, but they heavily support the US economy. They contribute by paying taxes every year. In addition, they adopt difficult low wage jobs that are not of interest to the average American.
Contrary to belief, many immigrants do not want to come to America, they are forced to move to America because they have no other option. Immigrants aren’t criminals crossing the border to bring in drugs or steal jobs, they are creating a new life in America. Immigrants are fleeing their country because of poor government, poor education, and crime. Immigrants deserve our sympathy, when pilgrims came to America, they too, were forced to leave their native country and hope for a better life. Furthermore, immigrants boost the economy and abide the law. While immigrants do take jobs from other Americans, those positions were not made specifically for Americans. Immigrants have every right as americans do to work. As far as illegal immigrants “stealing” jobs, it is not their fault for getting hired, it is the corporation that hired them. To immigrants, america is a symbol of liberty and a chance to succeed, Americans should not punish them for seeking a more prosperous future.
We see immigrants in the restaurant industry, not as chefs but as dishwashers and busboys. We see them in the agriculture sector as migrant workers doing literally backbreaking work of weeding and picking our fruits and vegetables so we can purchase them at low prices. We use immigrants as gardeners and groundskeepers and expect them to work outside, in Phoenix, in 100 plus degrees. I don’t think any of "us" could tolerate the conditions that they work under. They clean our schools, our offices and our stores. They get security jobs on the shifts that American workers don’t want, night watchmen. They take the construction jobs from companies that avoid paying union wages. These opportunities are presented by American companies that are only interested in their bottom line. The desire to hire immigrant workers, documented or undocumented, is out of the greed of profit-driven corporate America. The fact that Immigrant laborers are desperate for work is exploited by the very companies that promote lower prices for consumers, American consumers. An irony of sorts. We pay lower wages so we can have lower prices at the expense of the employment of others who were making more money doing the same job. Since these American workers are now being paid the lower wage or none at all, it helps that the prices for these items and services are lower. Otherwise how else could they afford them?
Immigrants are not necessarily taking jobs away from the hard American worker. The work occupations that the immigrants take are illegal for any legal (licensed) employer to employ any American worker. The typical job sites that would be including but not limited to: unsanitary working conditions, dangerous equipment without proper safety precautions, extremely long working days, and less than minimum wage for work rendered. There is not one citizen in this country that would stand for such an outrageous environment to work in or work for a company that allows it to happen. Many citizens would go directly to an inspection board to have the factory and/or plant evaluated to see if the factory could pass any sort of inspection for the welfare of the workers. Hence, the factory/plant would be closed down and there would be even fewer jobs for Americans.
