‘Beneath Clouds’ directed by Ivan Sen and ‘Baked Beans and Burnt Toast’ written by Jacqui Larkin both explore the theme identity in the four main characters, Peter, Jacqui, Lena and Vaughn. Ivan Sen uses mise en scène, dialogue, setting and symbolism when directing to stoutly portray the identity of Lena and Vaughn. Correspondingly Jacqui Larkin scrutinizes identity primarily through dialogue, metaphors, hyperbole and imagery in order to emphasise the problems Jacqui faces with identity. Seemingly both Sen and Jacqui both explore Identity but in similar and distinctive ways to make the audience ponder about how the main characters are feeling relating to their identity throughout the film and book.
Sammy and Sarty are two protagonists that have to mature beyond normal circumstances and experience the “real world” at tender ages. These details paint a picture in the reader's head about her current situation. This dark reality that the author meets is nothing like what she was promised before she got to America. She feels let down and forgotten in a place that was supposed to be a sanctuary. She starts to question the American dream and what it means. This tone establishes the lowest part of the story and changes everything.
I have selected to do my media critique paper on a film called Vanilla Sky. Vanilla Sky is a film directed by Cameron Crowe. It is the English version of Alejandro Amenábar's Spanish film called Open Your Eyes. The film has been described as "an odd mixture of hard strong emotion, romance and a twist of science fiction. The film starring Vanilla Sky Tom Cruise, Penelope Cruz, and Cameron Diaz with Jason Lee and Kurt Russell appearing in supporting roles.
The main character is Stella Mills. She is a 10-year-old girl who lives with her mom and dad, Georgia and Jonah and her younger brother Jojo. They live in a segregated town called Bumblebee in North Carolina. The year is 1932 and during this time blacks lived in one part of the town with their own school and church and white people lived in another part. Stella has a hard time in school and she tries to do better with her writing by keeping a dairy. Stella often sneaks out at night to write about the things going on in her life and the things she sees out in her small community.
The Other Side of the Sky, a memoir by Farah Ahmedi, is a fantastic and tragic story of a girl’s battle through life as she lost loved ones, fled her country, and had to adapt to a life that was incredibly foreign to her. Farah’s culture is beautiful in its own ways, its dedication to beliefs, the wonderful traditions that are held, and the way they can be happy without all sorts of media and technology. American culture is extremely different than this, with our dependance on technology and our confidence and pride in our freedom. It’s both easy and difficult to find similarities and differences in my culture and Farah’s. The things we fear, the freedoms bestowed upon us, and just the way we go about our lives in general are all extremely differentiated between our countries, and we both take a certain amount of pride in them.
What drives you to pursue your dreams, goals, and your future? Farah Ahmedi and her mother constantly went all around the place while trying to find ways to begin a better life in Pakistan. Annie Johnson went out of her way, made a plan, and got to work for her children, so they could begin a better life than how it began. Rikki-Tikki-Tavi did his absolute best to do what was best for the sake and survival of his family and his friends. Individuals are driven to undertake/pursue missions for family and friends, children, and to begin a better life. They want to carve their own path and not follow the path that others believe they’ll eventually end up on. Just as it states in the story, The Other Side of the Sky, it says, ”We sustained
"Blue Sky"is a stunning video from the founder of MS World from Eugene Oregon. "Blue Sky" will touch your heart.
I have read many novel and this novel called “Last Night at the Blue Angel” captured my interest because it is about the heartbreaking relationship between a mother and her Ten years old daughter. As a single mother, Naomi ambitious extremely self-destructive and only her daughter Sophia know her better than those who around her. By growing up in adult world, Sophia sometime feel outcast without having any friends at her age. Fortunately, there is a new student attend at her school named Elizabeth who is the first black girl attending at that school. Later, she becomes Sophia best friend. This novel take a place during Civil Right Protest from 1951 to 1965 in Kansas and Chicago, IL. The author describes Kansas as a home of windy and Chicago as an uneasy tension and the Cold War, but it is also a home for country’s most influential jazz in this novel. Most importantly, the author tells the unforgettable story of Naomi and Sophia when she says “What happens when our passion for life we want is at sharp odds with the life we have” (Rotert).

“Legacy” by Wild Blue Sky was a super enjoyable read for me; I really loved this fictional take on the heir of Hitler. It’s a fast-paced, short read that grips you from the very first page and takes you on a whirlwind adventure of the rise of Hitler’s alleged son (Peter) up the ranks of German politics in the 1960-1970.
The film, Between the Earth and Sky, directed by Paul Allen Hunton in 2017 showcases climate change in Alaska and round the world. The idea for the film originally came from Dr. David Weindorf, a professor at Texas Tech University. Dr. Weindorf frequently took students to Alaska for field trips led by Chein Lu Ping, professor of soil science at the University of Alaska and a one of the leading experts in permafrost. While on these fieldtrips, Weindorf became curious on how climate change was affecting arctic and sub-arctic areas.
Published in 1963, The Sky Is Gray by Ernest J. Gaines draws readers closer to the discrimination that black people faced in the 60s. The Sky Is Gray portraits both the ugly and beautiful experiences that James and his mother get on their way to the dentist. The story portraits three remarkable points: James’s forced mature, his childhood memory damaged by poverty, but even so, their dignity still remains.
Ernest Gaines' “The Sky is Gray” is a wonderful story that deals with the nature of life and the struggles it brings. While it does mainly focus on the coming-of-age struggles of the roughly 8 year old protagonist James, the title also means that there is something out of place with the way that things are. It is representative of a subjective reality that is not what others may think is there. It is also representative of a rebellious notion of reality that is counter to what the existing one is. This idea asserts itself in the conversation between the preacher and the young student.
Young teenagers are being put under crazy amounts of pressure these days and ”A Gap of Sky” by Anna Hope are facing those problems young people might feel. In this case, it’s is a short story about a young girl facing multiple dilemmas. It portrays the main character, Ellie, a 19 year-old girl describing what it feels like being left to yourself in a city without the support from others. We’re able to tell that an omniscient third person narrator tells the story with lacking emotions towards Ellie and her use of drugs. As a reader, the story gives the expression of a confusing and easily distracted narrator.
