Leadership is essential to the growth and facilitation of any organization. At the University Eye Clinic (UEC), leadership drives the organization to function and maintain its policies, vision, and mission of the agency. In Effective Leadership Masterclass, Adair states, "the word leader has developed from the root meaning of a path, road, or course of a ship” (1997). This means having leadership is the path that brings a community practice and organization together. Leadership is rooted in teamwork and a shared common goal between members of a team. Despite these differences, the similarities in leadership are the same because they have to follow the guidelines and procedures of DOH, HIPAA, and NASW. I have also found that UNC leadership style is based upon Transformational/interactional. “Transformational leadership is aligned to democratic forms of leadership. This involves leaders and followers engaged in a common aim. It is a leadership style based upon embracing change and encouraging innovation.” (Burns, 1978)” Transformational leadership provides a mirror for UNC because DOH, HIPAA, and NASW are the governing body of the clinic and regardless of the doctors own approach to patient care he/she as to adhere to the policies and regulation of the state and federal departments that are funding this organization. UNC mission is to provide outstanding services to the patients with low vision and head trauma. This approach promotes people center approach in providing care. One example, before the doctors see a patient, the social work team conducts an initial assessment, as well as the doctors to get a comprehensive understanding of the patient concerns. Likewise, using the multifactor leadership questionnaire, it was determined that my leadership style is Contingent reward transitional leadership
