There are lots of similarities and differences between Iowa’s state Constitution and the united states Constitution. Some of the similarities are found in the structure of the Constitution, both have preambles and they both have articles. In the document structure there are differences. The states articles are much longer and they have many more than the US. Similarities and differences can also be found in the Government structure. Iowa’s constitution has many more articles than the U.S. As well as having more articles Iowa also has longer articles. This is all do to the fact that the U.S. constitution’s articles are more about “the big picture” and talks about the government as a whole. Iowa’s articles talk about smaller little details in their own state government. The Government Structure also has summaries and differences. Two Similarities being they have 3 branches and bicameral legislators. Also two differences being legislators have different names and that jurisdiction of courts are different. The similarities of Iowa’s and the U.S. government structure is that they have 3 branches in their government. Both have Executive, Judicial, and legislative branches. The differences between them is that U.S. handles bigger problems within American while Iowa deals with problems in the state. They also both have bicameral legislators. A bicameral legislator is the legislative branch that has house of representatives and senate. Iowa’s government structure has a much smaller version of the
United States Americans have always learned about the constitution, but they don’t know everything about it. What most people don’t know is that the U.S Constitution is based off the Iroquois Constitution. The Iroquois is a group of Indians that were having conflict between their five nations; because of this they created a constitution to unite and give structure to their nations. Their constitution is mostly different than the U.S. Constitution, but there are a few similarities between the two.
The simple difference between the Articles of Confederation and US Constitution is that the articles were not strong enough to hold our young nation together. The articles operated the US as separate states. Under the articles, it was very difficult to pass laws since the requirement of 9 out of the 13 states ' approval was needed for ratification. The Articles created a loose confederation of sovereign states and a weak central government, leaving most of the power with the state governments. The need for a stronger Federal government soon became apparent and eventually led to the Constitutional Convention in 1787. The members of the Constitutional Convention signed the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787 in
I found this unit to very interesting because although I knew that each state had its own constitution I did not realize some of the similarities and differences that they shared. It is important to understand your states constitution because we have more contact with state and local governments on a daily basis than we do with the federal government. Above I made this table that visually shows us the United States and Georgia Constitution so we can compare and contrast them. As we can see the United States Constitution has seven articles and was only ratified once in 1787, while the Georgia Constitution has eleven articles and had been ratified 10 times with the more recent in 1983. Looking at my table I bolded the similarities between the
Compare and contrast the Articles of confederation and the Constitution, especially in regard to the specific powers granted to the national government. The formation and ideals of the Articles of Confederation and its successor, the Unites States Constitution, varied from each other in terms of a stronger or weaker federal government in dealing with issues. The Constitution gave more power to the federal government, while the Articles of Confederation involved a very weak government with primary rights interests of the individual states as the focus. Both gave Congress legislative power and set up departments that would eventually be incorporated into the president’s cabinet. The formation of the Articles of Confederation was of the
National and State governments are organized in similar ways. Both have power derived from the people, three branches of government, checks and balances on political power, individual rights, and federalism. They may seem to have many similarities, but they also have many differences which sets them apart from each other. The Texas Constitution was written to limit the expansion of governmental authority, while the U.S. Constitution was written to act effectively in the public welfare. Over the years, the National government has indeed expanded.
State governments are set up through state constitution, which usually have four sections. These sections are the: preamble which states the purpose and that the authority of the government comes from the people. Another section is the bill or declaration of rights which includes many of the same rights as in the U.S. Constitution’s Bill of Rights. To expand on this the states constitution are different due to the fact that many voter initiatives take the form of a constitutional amendment. States constitution varies in length and sizes. In fact California's constitution is one of
The Georgia Constitution has many differences then you think, from the US Constitution. The differences are determined by the time of creation of both the Georgia and United States constitutions. With that being said, the United States Constitution throws down the fundamental aspects of the Constitution like the legal, political and economic system. Then there is the Georgia Constitution, this constitution extends the first Amendment of the United States Constitution and provides us with more accurate details on the freedom of religion. The Georgia Constitution just basically meets the United States Constitution, but is more up-to-part and
The Article of Confederation was the building block that created our Constitution. It was prefect as well a lot of things our government creates. In addition here are differences between the two documents.
Constitution. Both of the constitutions contain the separations of powers, which consist of the legislative, judicial, and executive branch. They also have restrictions on which government actions cannot be done due to being unequal. Both constitutions have the, “Separation of church and state, due process for the criminally accused, and freedom of speech and of the press,”(Newell, Prindle, and Riddlesperger 47-48). The U.S. constitution allows the government officials to have more say in their work than the State constitution. In both the state and national level there are many things that the some branches of the government can do that others cannot, that is why some people say, ”Powers are not truly separated, but overlapping and shared,” (Newell, Prindle, and Riddlesperger
In conclusion, state law and federal law are very similar as, they are each meant to dictate a measure of safety for the citizens of the United States of America. According to the United States Constitution federal law, which is dictated, allows the federal government the power to make laws for the people and for the country as a whole. State laws are meant to allow each state to be allowed to govern them and handle the issues within their states. This power was given to them from the Bill of Rights that was also outlined in the Constitution (FindLaw, 2012).
The Constitution and the Articles of Confederation are the same in ways, but they are also, both different. Both of them founded our Government systems, but only one system still remains today. Both systems have their flaws, but also have their advantages. Without the Articles, there would be no Constitution, and the United States would be under the control of a tyrant. The Articles lead us to war, and separated us from Great Britain and now are our own country.
Generally speaking, State constitutions perform different functions (generally limit plenary powers rather than grant enumerated powers), have different origins (from the people
Constitutions are ordinances set forth by a legislative body to establish the foundations of a government. The United States of America wrote their constitution to set the rules in place for the branches of government, their separate powers, and the limitations of the federal government. Since the United States operates under a federalist government, each state is responsible for establishing their own governments. There arise the states’ constitutions. There are inevitable differences between the content of a constitution of a state versus that of the federal government.
The United States Constitution and Nevada constitution are important for the citizens of Nevada. For many, the first thought of the word constitution is often associated with the United States Constitution. The word constitution is often a document of fundamental principles according to not just the United States, but states, corporations, and organizations. The Nevada constitution is the law that governs the people of Nevada and the United States Constitution applies to all states in the union. Despite them both being constitutions, the United States Constitution and the Nevada constitution have many differences and similarities.
Most state governments are modeled after the three branch system of government like the federal government, although it is not required by law to follow suit. Each state has their Constitution as well as having powers not giving to the federal government. (whitehouse.gov) States have an
