Type and Scope of Event Before planning a successful event, ask why is this event happening in the first place? Does the event have a purpose? I love planning events, especially ones that raise money for charities. Hosting a charity ball is a fantastic fundraiser because it will give supporters a fun and glamourous night out, with a hint of elegance. Adults can dress up, enjoy delicious food, sip some wine, and dance to some groovy music. As an event planner, I have been selected to plan a charity ball to raise money for the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. The goal of this event is to raise money for such an important cause and bring hope in finding a cure for cancer. Charity for a Cure will be one of the most talked about upcoming events in the Southern Illinois Area.
Capabilities
Charity for a Cure has the capability to be very successful and memorable. Many charity events usually have more than one goal. The goals of this event are not only to raise money for an important cause, but also to create a night that guests will never forget. Creating a memorable event does not begin when people arrive and leave the event. Most often, the experience of an event begins when someone hears about the event for the very first time. Charity for a Cure has the capability to raise at least $25,000 for St. Jude’s. Guests will pay for their tables, which will include an entry fee and dinner. Most of the money raised will come from both auctions, as well as the support of local
St. Jude’s target for marketing fundraising is far larger than most charities. Their target; preschoolers, professionals, 8th graders and 80 year olds, television, radio, local drives, school drives, trike-a-thons, math-a-thons, local, county, state and national events. Some of the big ones that you may be familiar with; the “Dream Home Giveaway”, the “Thanks and Giving Campaign” and the radio-a-thon “Country Cares”. Because of last year’s St. Jude’s NFL event, 18% of American’s said they planned to support St. Jude’s “Thanks and Giving Campaign” during this past holiday season. No opportunity is turned away.
At St. Jude’s we don’t want you to feel as though you have to give money. Giving us some of your time to help us raise money or if you have a talent of entertaining kids and helping them forget about what they are going through. We are not all about money, we are about making a better life for everyone especially our youth. We lose children to diseases
A yearly celebrity softball game is played to raise funding for the fund. There is also an annual supper club and live auction, which in 2014 raised over $300,000 in one 4 hour event. There is also a Carol Fitzgerald Memorial Fund Gala every year that raises money for the charities that supports African American women with Breast Cancer, support African Americans with HIV/AIDS, and support education among urban youth. More of a good cause, but I took it way more serious than it should've been I was 3 out of 5 shots putting Andy Lin at a 63% shooting percent. soon after I went up for a rebound and sprained my ankle which made me think how important the cause was knowing I should've sat out for the rest of the game I overcame my injury by wrapping it up and continuing to do it for the ones who’s needed the funding and ones who came out to support .This event was held for a whole day but still with that time frame we were able to earn 2,000 dollars from supporters. I would say that we were the best but we gave it our all and believed in ourselves to gain success which payed off in a win/win
I have extensive experience planning and coordinating events. Currently, I am a Program Committee Chair Member for the African American Alumni Society at the University of San Francisco (USF). As a Chair Member, I am responsible for coordinating special events, most recently, the society 's spring event the Black Alumni Mixer at the San Francisco Press Club. We did not have a theme, but our goal was to encourage alumni to reconnect and to donate at least $10, to the African American USF scholarship fund. The budget for this event was $5,000. This budget included food and the venue to host 50 alumni. My role included finding venues, and sending invitations to alumni. Over 100 alumni attended the Black Alumni Mixer, and we raised over $2,000. Additional duties as Chair include recruiting, engaging and encouraging Alumni to participate in university events as volunteers and attend alumni events.
Redkite holds a range of fun, professional and innovative events to raise funds for the children, young people and families they support. Redkite also offers the community to organize, hold or sponsor a fundraising event whether it’s a music concert or an art show, a team or personal challenge, a head shave and even a kite-making competition. One of the many large and popular events in which is run by a volunteer committee of young people working together to help raise money for Redkite, is the Sydney Color Ball Event. The Sydney Color Ball is like no other charity event, giving young professionals the opportunity to socialize and have a great night at a fun, sophisticated cocktail-style event. This is a no sit-down dinner; it’s a chance to light up the dance floor to live music, be waited on with substantial canapés and unlimited beer/wine, be caught up in a bidding frenzy on the silent auction, win raffles and door prizes and of course have a memorable night out with your friends, all while helping support Redkite. Redkite also offers support to young children with cancer through providing essential support including – education, counselling, career support and emotional support. It offers professional support through funding social workers in hospitals to offer real and practical assistance and counselling for families, when they need it the most. Redkite’s music therapy provides
To persuade the members of my audience in becoming a Partner in Hope by donating/volunteering to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
The Saint Jude Bike-a-thon was a fundraiser my high school’s JROTC program ran every year to raise money for Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, a unique facility that primarily works to cure children with cancer. Unlike other hospitals, the majority of funding for St. Jude comes from generous donors. It costs $2 million to operate
Each year, students orchestrate THON, a Penn State student-led philanthropic organization that raises money for Four Diamonds and Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. Throughout the year, students coordinate fundraisers and a 46-hour dance marathon to cover costs that insurance companies will not cover and attain funding for pediatric cancer research. At Penn State, I intend to be a part of this phenomenal organization. Within THON, I plan to continue my leadership through becoming a committee member. Fundraising is an essential component in any kind philanthropic organization; therefore, participating in canning weekends, becoming a committee member, and raising money. All of the money raised through THON benefits Four Diamonds at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital for groundbreaking research in pediatric oncology and medical support for families battling this devastating disease. Over the past 40 years, THON has raised over $127 million dollars to find a cure for pediatric cancer, the leading cause of fatal disease in children, which will impact the lives of those dealing with the effects of cancer and improve the overall quality of life for the
Central Idea: Many charities are deserving of support, but St Jude is truly special. Everything they do for these children makes their lives and their family’s lives just a little bit easier.
St. Jude Children’s hospital was established in February of 1962 with the “sole purpose of conducting basic and clinical research and treatment into catastrophic childhood diseases” (StJude.org). They have raised survival of childhood cancer from 20% to 80% since their opening through their research (Cancer.org). Even with an average of 7,800 patients a year and a 1.8 million daily operating cost, parents never pay anything for their child’s stay (StJude.org). The survival rate has raised and children are able to stay at no cost due to donations. Most of these donations come from people around the world that see St. Jude’s effective and strong advertisements. I will be analyzing three rhetoric’s ethos, logos, and pathos the hospital used to raise funds and make it effective.
Purpose: To inform my audience that there are kids out there that need our help and to have the audience persuade to donating.
Crowd fundraising or Group fundraising services like GoFundMe allow people to raise money for friends, families, neighbors or themselves as well as for charity too. GoFundMe has a special and different page for Hurricane Maria for charities, individuals and families. Global Giving , a crowdfunding site for charities, is trying to raise $2 million for local relief and recovery
Currently the target base is corporate Americans who are searching for a community event or hobby happening in the local area. For the fundraising, the target base is largely captive and patrons will be supportive from family member to coworkers are representing. Many patrons’ vendors will be willing to serve in any capacity and will be able to provide, however, professional services and resources and have the edge in being relatively supportive and satisfying. No other patrons are particularly expected to be present at these events at the capacity as the favorable sponsors who have a drive to serve, however, if there was the presence of another charitable organization serving the same exact purpose it may actually be beneficial in the same way. As for the psychographic make-up of the target base market, a large number of people attending these events are expected to be medium income families
