What comes from this tremendous success is the admiration over the main character Edward Cullen, he is seen as the ultimate ideal of a boyfriend. Bella’s introduction to Edward is unnerving. “He was glaring down at me again, his black eyes full of revulsion. As I flinched away from him, shrinking against my chair, the phrase if looks could kill suddenly ran through my mind. (Meyer pp. 23–24).” It is clear that Edward frightens Bella from the beginning, and later into that day he still seems to be stalking her. In spite of his jealousy, he even follows her home that day and watches her enter into her home and watch where she keeps the house key. His acts initially before Edward and Bella even enter into a relationship sets the underlying problem that will continue during the rest of the …show more content…
During their relationship, he attempts to isolate her from others and is quick to get her away from others. He is continually shielding her from people outside, and forbids her from seeing Jacob even messing with her car so she can't escape. Not only does he shield her from her friends, but even from her own father and family. He does this all in the name of her safety and well being, which is viewed as “heroic”. His purpose and reason for things are not considered as an annoyance or strange, but rather charming, which benefits
Due to her parents divorce and her mother's impending marriage, Bella moves from Arizona to Washington with her father, where she is essentially forced to restart her life. This is a very challenging task, and one she was able of enduring alone, proving her self reliance. While Bella made a few quick acquaintances, she struggled with the absence of close relationships prior to meeting Edward. The vacancy left in her life can be attributed to her nonconformity, and her unapologetic nature. Even after connecting with Edward, Bella is reluctant to change the way she acts to please him.
Bella had been carrying around guilt from Abraham Lincoln’s assassination so she decided to go and tell the authorities about her involvement in the assassination. Bella talked to Mr. Stanton about her involvement and he told her “Your imagination has taken over your mind. This tragedy has exhausted us all and done peculiar things to many a mind. Go home, my dear, and pray to God for guidance.”(page 205). It was smart that Mr. Stanton decided to simply send Bella home when she tried to explain her actions instead of putting her through a trial. He had known that Bella felt awful and that she was so stressed out with her position in the assassination and kidnapping. Bella shows us her stress when she says “ tossed and turned all night in misery,

In the beginning of the book Edward is all alone.During the day Abilene goes to school. This means Edward is all by himself.Abilene leaves him looking outside with a watch.I have felt like this before, all alone. In 6th grade I wasn’t allowed to be friends with my best friend. We had done something so bad that they didn’t even allow us to be in the same classes anymore.I had felt alone for months I had other friends but she was my best friend. But after 8 long months we were allowed to be friends again. I didn’t feel alone forever but I did for a long time.
The Ordeal in this film is that Edward can't leave Bella alone because since she is so prone to danger he feels the need to stay with her and protect her. James the trickster, lures Bella to him by telling her that he has captured her mom and makes her leave the Cullen family without them knowing. James leads her to an old ballet studio to kill her. The Cullen’s show up. The only problem is that James has already bitten Bella. If Edward doesn't suck the venom infected blood out of her, she'll become a vampire. A perfect
Everybody, including her father, is sure that Bella will end up an old maid, but she turns out to be the first one to notice that Benny has changed. This demonstrates her qualities, despite that she is not all beautiful on the outside. Maybe because Bella is not filled with confidence, she has the quality of being patient and caring for other people, especially Benny, whose weakness she instantly discovers.
Another important scene in the book is when Bella goes to Port Angeles with Jessica and Angela to help them pick out dresses and to also get a new book. She gets lost on her way back to meet her friends for dinner. Lost with four men are following her, Edward comes out of nowhere to rescue her. He fishtails around a corner and stops with the passenger door open next to Bella. He tells her to talk about something random to distract him from going back to kill Bella’s stalkers. After he rescues Bella, he takes her to dinner, where Bella interrogates Edward about how he knew where she was. The car ride home from Port Angeles is another scene where the movie’s timeline differs from the book. During the car ride Bella tells Edward her theories about him (Meyers 161). Her theories are built on the story she learned from an old tribe legend Jacob told her when they meet on the beach, revealing that she knows Edward is a vampire (183). This begins a new period in their relationship, where they trade off days asking one another questions about everything. The next day, they go on a hike up the mountain to Edward’s favorite spot, the meadow. He shows Bella why he and his family cannot be seen in the sunlight, being that his skin sparkles in the light. Edward then shows her what he is capable by using his
It is said when Edward was young, he read every book he could find in Ashland and quickly become one of the brightest minds in the town. After escaping the unnamed town, He decides he needs to further his education and attends Auburn University. While pursuing academics at Auburn, he falls in love with Sandra Templeton – “the most beautiful woman in the town of Auburn” (840). He soon found out that another man, Don Price, has already asked for Sandra's hand in marriage, but that did not weaken Edward's pursuit of her. He would follow her around to find any excuse to interact with her. This shows his
Bella Swan is a 17-year-old girl who has lived in Phoenix, Arizona, with her mother, her entire life. After her mother remarries, she moves to Forks, Washington, to live with her father. Although she is very shy, she seems to make friends very easily at her new high school. On her first day of school, she takes a seat next to a handsome, yet extremely reserved boy named Edward Cullen. As soon as Bella sits down, Edward gets up and leaves, trying his hardest to avoid her. Bella finds his behavior completely strange, but eventually Edward warms up to her, and the two begin a close friendship. One day, Bella is walking through the school parking lot. All of a sudden, a car pulls up out of nowhere, heading straight for Bella. Edward suddenly appears, stopping the car with little force, using only one hand, and completely amazing Bella with his incredible strength and speed. Still curious, Bella asks a family friend, Jacob, about Edward and the rest of the Cullen family. Jacob reveals that the Cullen family members are all seen as outcasts, as everyone believes them to be vampires. Bella ends up questioning
By you taking on the persona of Edward. If you play the role…and with a little coaching from me…we can release the guilt that she bears towards him.
In all four works, Bella Swan in the protagonist. The story is centered around her life. All four books are written in her perspective. Meyer usually tends to write all her stories as first person narratives, including books that are not related to the Twilight Saga like The Host. When Meyer writes, she becomes completely engrossed in the characters. The main reason why she writes is because of the characters she creates. She envisions them in her brain. She talks to them all day, and they talk back. Coming up with the perfect names for the two main characters was a very tough process. She wanted a name that was popular decades ago, but at the same time, she wanted a name that was romantic for the vampire. Since Meyer grew up reading Charlotte Bronte and Jane Austen, she used the characters Mr. Ferrars and Mr. Rochester from their works as an inspiration; thus leading her to choose the name Edward. After coming up with the names for the twosome, and was still in the process of creating their story, they would constantly talk to her. She heard their voices all day, so Meyer would
Bella is a quite clumsy seventeen-year-old girl who spent her life in Phoenix with her mom until she moves to cold, rainy Forks. She is the narrator and our protagonist girl in the book. Through many boys attracted to her, she falls in love with Edward Cullen.
Bella was fighting for better treatment in her career. Then a fight happened. Yetta, being Bella’s friend, tried to help her, but failed. The author writes “Tell him that Yetta was really trying to help me, she didn’t do anything wrong, she shouldn’t be in that police wagon-”(Haddix 100). This quote from Uprising, shows how Bella took this situation.
“so my sister hates me because I ruined her childhood” this text shows Edward knows that Cara hates him , when Cara was younger and their parents were still together and Edward still lived in the house, Cara would look up to him for everything for protection, advice, anything at all. So when Edward left to Thailand and everything in the family was starting to fall apart , she had no one to protect her or have someone that did things like Edward did. Cara, basically feels left in the dirt , because she's the one that had to go through all the court stuff and deal with arguments in the family. So when Edward shows up to see their father , it makes her angry , which makes her say things like, “he shouldn't be able to see him”. I think even though its been years ,Cara is still the same little girl and deep down wants to be with Edward, and doesn't want to feel this resentment towards him anymore.
Eventually, Bella and Edward had fallen in love with each other. Edward told her that he is a vampire. At this part of the movie the viewer already know he is and Bella has an idea that he is as well. But, it is an important part to the movie because it shows the viewer how Edward tells her how he really does not want to hurt her but it is hard for him because he can 't read her thoughts, Bella is not scared at all. But when the viewer watches the film they want to see Bella’s reaction and how Edward responds to it. This is a very meaningful part of the movie and was a great way to show how Bella wasn’t frightened that Edward was a vampire and how she trusted him greatly. Bella also knew that Edward would not harm her in any way. Even though Edward was not sure of himself that he had what it takes to be strong and not change Bella’s life forever, by turning her into his kind, a vampire.
