The Turtle Twins In a land far, far away, there were two turtles who were born. They were conjoined twins and shared the same body. The more dominant of the two, the one with the red spots arranged in a way that looked like Jensen Ackles’ face, is named Toby. The other, who is quite frail, has a dash of yellow on her nose is called Tabitha. They are both turtles of the Landslide Turtle Colony and were born on July 8th in 2015. Although, they were not believed to live long because Tabitha was not receiving as much food and nutrients as Toby, which has caused her to become weaker than she already is. Angelica, their veterinarian, had searched for 3 days nonstop trying to find a way in which to make these two turtles live as long as possible.

The ornate box turtle is a extremely common species of turtle that lives throughout the United States. The turtles can be easily recognized by their dark brown shell with bright yellow markings. Almost every box turtle is unique in marking, from yellow to orange spots on their body to the different patterns on their shell. The male and female box turtle are distinguishable by their eye color and tail size. Male ornate box turtles have red eyes and longer tails, while females have brown eyes and shorter tails. These turtles have a interesting life style because they usually live their entire life's within only a few acres. The turtles start out the day basking in the sun. from there they go out hunting for food. Ornate box turtles move and hunt
Two things I learned was from Turtle pond lab was what B.O.D means for the ponds water quality and how to calculate it. To answer question number two I chose to explain the B.O.D results. I didn´t know much about the Biochemical oxygen demand so, I had to do a little bit of research on it. I find out that a high B.O.D measurement is actually bad because it means that the water is polluted and that B.O.D is used to measure a number of dissolved oxygen that an organism needs to break down organic material in a water sample. During this lab, I also learned how to measure BOD. When we were at the pond my job was to take a sample of the water in a black bottle and then 5 days later we would measure the dissolved oxygen in the sample. To find the
The Graptemys caglei, also known as the Cagle’s Map Turtle, is an endangered turtle species found in San Antonio, Texas and along the Guadalupe River. It identifies easily by the pattern on its shell which resembles an aerial view topography, as well as its spiked shell edges, which are not as sharp as other map turtles of the same genus. Although the Cagle’s Map Turtle has natural predators pose a threat to the individual turtles’ lives, the predators are not a greater threat than habitat disturbances created by humans. Unfortunately, this species suffered a significant drop in population since the mid-1970 through changes in its habitat disallow support of a larger population of the turtles(van Dijk, P. P., 2011).
As you buy a turtle you don’t know what size tank, or how to do the filtration for the tank, or you don’t know where to clean it all and where not to clean it, well let me tell
CHARLESTON, South Carolina (Achieve3000, August 7, 2015). A rare leatherback sea turtle was found on a South Carolina beach in March 2015. The enormous reptile weighed 476 pounds (216 kilograms). It was spotted on the Yawkey-South Island Reserve in Georgetown County. The creature was brought to the South Carolina Aquarium. Workers named her Yawkey. She was treated with fluids, antibiotics, and vitamins. She was the first leatherback to be found alive in South Carolina. Caretakers were eager to see her returned to the sea.
The novel “The Back of the Turtle” by Thomas King is relevant to Canada in both present day and history. Through the setting, characters and theme the story is portrayed in a way that makes it sound like a calamitous prediction for the future of Canada’s treasured natural world. Riddled with corporate greed and environmental disaster, the story follows those involved and affected by the catastrophe that destroyed Samaritan Bay. His lifelike characters are tangled with labyrinthine emotions that add another layer of complexity to the story. In my opinion, the novel “The Back of the Turtle” by Thomas King is a great novel because of the depth of storytelling that the author can achieve, and deserves to be recognised as a “Great Canadian Novel”.
In particular, one of these seven species is comprised of the loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta). The largest of all hard-shelled turtles, loggerheads have massive heads, strong jaws, and a reddish-brown shell, or carapace. Their front flippers are short and thick with 2 claws, while the rear flippers can have 2 or 3 claws. Loggerhead hatchlings have a dark-brown carapace with pale brown flippers. According to National Geographic (2015), adult males reach about three feet (nearly one meter) in shell length and weigh about 250 pounds (113 kilograms), but large specimens of more than 1,000 pounds (454 kilograms) have been found. They are primarily carnivores, munching jellyfish, conchs, crabs, and even fish, but will eat seaweed occasionally. They prefer to feed in coastal bays and estuaries, as well as the shallow water along the continental shelves of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans.
significantly impact loggerhead nesting by making many current or potential nesting sites unviable (Ehrhart et al.).
Logger Head Turtles are primarily carnivores for most of their lives, meaning they mainly eat other animals (Marine Bio, 2015). Hatchlings mostly eat sponges, jellyfish, sargassum weed, small gastropods and crustaceans (Marine Bio, 2015). Juveniles, sub-adults and adults feed on conch, clams, horseshoe crabs, as well as other crustaceans (Marine Bio, 2015). As the turtles grow, their jaws get stronger (Harrison, 2005). This helps them to eat much firmer food such as Horseshoe crabs and clams (Harrison, 2005). The loggerhead turtle sexual maturity is reached between 22 to 27 years of age (Environment, 2001). While it is not clear how long a juvenile loggerhead turtle will stay in the open ocean, once it moves to its feeding
We had to cleaned the house and my dad told me if we find anything in the house that we liked we can keep I found this glass turtle I kept it and when we came home I put it in my glass cabinet and i saw a sparkle in the turtle and i remember all the fun stuff that me and my grandpa did we went to the baseball games and.
By making the second turtle less detailed and colorful; along with making the background water and fish less clear and murky in coloring, Faleski successfully instills an atmospheric perspective. Gentle blueish-white lines are used to separate the squares of the secondary turtle’s stomach. Its’ skin color is a blueish-green hue that helps to further distinguish it from the primary turtle. The one visible eye of the second turtle is colored completely black without a separation of the pupil and iris.
After reading and learning about Western Painted Turtles It would be interesting to get one. Western painted turtles aren’t only interesting but they are also beautiful because of their natural colors. I loved learning about these turtles because I have always liked turtles but never knew what they were really about, how they lived, and what they are capable of. These turtles may be small but they can do crazy things. I didn’t know a turtle could walk across the highway, but they sure do. The articles said they will do what it takes when it comes to laying their eggs because they are very picky about where they are laid. I also didn’t know that turtles could manage their heartbeat. I thought that was a fun interesting fact. I never knew Colorado
The story's i read were more about how the general Thomas Gage, on what he build to attack his enemys but by using a under water submarine for just one person.
American literature has evolved greatly from the Native Americans to 1870’s. American literature has changed, it teaches us how we have become more independent ourselves. The World on a Turtle’s Back, a myth, The Scarlet Letter, a book in a puritan setting, and A Rose for Emily is a southern gothic story. American literature would not be the same today without these forms of writing. The teachings from these are passed down generation to generation.
