About a year ago, I remember being very anxious to figure out who made the cut, for middle school basketball tryouts, that is. I also remember this one man-child looking guy at tryouts, who I saw as about ten-feet tall. After finding out who made the team, I was not-so-surprised to find out that the man-child was the only sixth grader to make the team out of the one-hundred or so kids that had tried out. Engrossed in my thought, all that I remembered thinking about was, “Life is totally not fair. It’s just not. Of course that kid made the team, he is literally double my frickin’ height, and there is nothing I can do about it.”
Feeling very strongly about these results, the whole next week wasn’t bad, but this feeling kept bugging me in

It was a hard balance, but by managing my time, I could eventually easily juggle all of these different tasks, while still practicing for next year’s tryouts. Also, I knew, that I would have to work extra-hard, and obtain hope, because these lessons that I have acquired in my life, can help you, me, and everyone with something going on whoever’s lives. Through working hard and not giving up, when I stumble upon an obstacle in my path to success, I like to take this as an opportunity for change that is positive, growth, in myself as a human …show more content…
One thing that my father told me, actually a couple times, was “if you put in the work, no one can question that”. This meant a lot to me as I really thought about this and analysed it in my head. What he meant, or how I perceived it was, that you may or may not get to where you want to be in life, but nobody can question the work that you put in to get to where you want to be, or where you are right now, and this as with many other things was very, well, inspiring. That is, if you want to put it that way, and this is one of my very reasons for motivation and it helps me build confidence. Knowing this, I have high hopes that these lessons that I have learned throughout my time on this earth so far can benefit my well-being, as well as any of the peers around me, so that I can lead through my
Baseball tryouts Three weeks ago I woke up from my deep sleep knowing what today was. I could feel the anxiety rushing through my mind but I was also confident that I would do good and be able to impress my coach. Today was baseball tryouts, I put so much time and effort fielding ground balls hitting off the tee to be ready for today.
I remember when my dad would always encourage me and my siblings to be successful in school, because if you are successful you will make it to the real world. The real world is tough and people need
Encouragement plays a significant role in my success. Without encouragement, the achievement won't come true. Juliet Ferking, the author of "A Drive to Achieve the Extraordinary" from This I Believe: Life Lessons, tells her story about
There was a boy named Carlos. Carlos got every thing he wanted, because his parents were rich. His parents were snobby and were show-offs too. Every morning of the summer he went out to his back yard and threw the ball around on his football field in his backyard. Carlos always loves walk out to the fresh smelling green football field. He would do his morning routine. When he woke up he would get ready for the day he would put on his athletic clothes. When he went out he would take the monster truck tire and pull it down and back, down and back, for a total of 1,000 yards. Carlos could always taste his sweat drip into his mouth after the workout. After that he would take a bag of footballs and set one on each 10 yard line until the other side in the endzone. He would throw each football into his field goal post and did that with every football. If he didn’t get every football into the endzone, Carlos would get beat by his father, a multi-million dollar
I have gone through many experiences and journeys throughout my life. However, out of all of them, one stands out the most. That one journey that stands out the most is making the middle school basketball team. It was a two long journey that I will never forget. It all started seventh grade year at Sebring Middle School when I tried out for the basketball team. The whole month before tryouts, I conditioned and played basketball nonstop preparing for the week-long tryouts. Finally, the first day of tryouts came and everything went well. The second day of tryouts came, which is when they do the first cut, and I was lucky enough not to get cut. After the second day, the next two days were a breeze. Then Friday came, the last day of tryouts. At
Eleanor Roosevelt has once said, “You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” I have doubted myself many times and there is one day I remember I doubted myself the most.
I worked out everyday and practiced every chance I got. When the first day of tryouts came around again, I woke up that morning like every other day, but I knew today was different. I knew that today was the day I was going to redeem myself. When I got to the field most of the guys looked familiar, a few of them even joked around with me and asked "you're back for more?" Unlike the previuos year, I was ready for this tryout. I proved to everyone that doubted me and said I couldn't and I earned my spot on that team. The moment I saw my name on the team's roster was one of my proudest
I grew up as a farmer's daughter, therefore I worked on the farm, even when the tasks were tough. Because of this, I learned at a young age a lesson that will stay with me until the day I die, when you start something, you finish it. No matter how difficult the task is, no matter how long it takes, you will fight through it and get the job done no matter what. Though multiple hot and sweaty hours, I built myself a well-rounded work ethic. I have learned to conquer anything that is thrown my way. Whether that was driving a tractor for endless hours or getting a A on my test, I have learned that I have to work for everything and anything in my life. However much work I put into something is exactly the outcome in which I
It all started three years ago when i was a freshman. One day my friends and I decided we want to join a sport to have an after school activity but since we weren’t on the athletic side we wanted to join something where you don’t have to run too much. Through school analcments we found out that our school has an girls bowling team and you don’t need any prior experience to join, so we went to an informational meeting and the coaches seemed really nice and so did the girls. Two weeks later on monday came the tryouts, we went to see how it is and it was hard. The main struggle was to get the ball stay on the layne and not go into the gutter. I personally couldn't get it to stay on the layne and wanted to quit it because I was so frustrated
I was blessed to grow up in a clean and healthy community, with a supportive family, and tons of friends by my side. These people have encouraged me to keep going, and not give up faith. Although I have hit bumps in the road, I have constantly had to keep in mind that in the end, everything is going to end up just fine. Furthermore, using my past experiences, I have used the encouragement I received from others to stay determined, and keep persevering. An example of this is my love and devotion towards soccer.
Again, tryouts came for the next greuling school year. The only difference from last year, I was prepared. I knew the cheers, I knew the feeling of standing in front of crowd so ecstatic from a winning game and I knew the feeling of a crowd sitting at a loss for words in the face of defeat. I knew my goal and I was absolutely determined to reach it. I could only be described as a lioness on the prowl and the Varsity squad was my prey. Just as anxious as the year before, though this time with a hint of confidence, I made my tryout a culmination of completely everything I had learned from my wildly experienced past. That night, I reached my ultimate goal and earned the prized name of Varsity cheerleader. The next day I practically walked around with an enormous V on my forehead, honored by the position. With all this positivity, I knew there was something to come. That same summer, I hadn’t received a lucky chance to become even a contender in the
“Develop the self so that before every decree God will ascertain you: What is your wish”. The lines my father always quoted to my mom, until he passed away when I was just three. Given the family conditions that time no one has ever thought of me completing even school. It was my mom’s determination that kept our hope alive.
It was a very warm and tense place in the gymnasium of the Alpena High School. A group of freshman and sophomore baseball players were waiting for the words you wanted to hear which was “Congratulations” or the not so good news of “Sorry” from the coach deciding if you made the team. Personally, at the start of baseball tryouts I thought to myself it’s going to be a toss up to see if I would make the team having a 50/50 chance. I was nervous for the most part because there were an abundace of upperclassman also trying out for the team that were on it last year. There were twenty-seven people trying out for fifteen spots to play JV baseball.
As they say this I sit and think to myself that just because you get to where you're at doesn't mean that you can just stop in your tracks because you got to your goal. You must continue to thrive and do your best even if it means making new goals. You have to remember that you do everything in life in order to make yourself happy, and for me, the constant grind to do better for myself and others is what fuels me to continue doing what i'm doing. People want to do better in life and want to be able to build from the ground up but the one factor that's stopping them from doing it is the fact that they think it's just supposed to come to them. Many people wouldn't be where they are in life if they didn't work hard and make sacrifices. I work hard and stay focused on what needs to get done so that I can get where I want to be in the future and be able to say that I have gotten where I want. It could be any type of goal, short-term or long-term,0 it doesn't matter. Do better for yourself so you can be happy. And that's what this quote means to me. It states that you have to work, work, and work some more to be
My mom would says that if you don't try you won't accomplish anything in life and you won't go anywhere. Everyday that I have to face challenge I tell myself that I have to atleast try because maybe it is not that hard as it looks. When you don't try at something your answer will always be that it is too complicated then you will get in the habit of saying to yourself that you can't do it because it looks complicated. This lesson made me a better person because now I know that if I try at least I tried to do it than just not do it at all. So when ever I have things to do at school I always give it a try even if I don't succeed because all it matter is that I did my best and tried to do it. There is nothing more you can do than give what you got and try to do
