Penelope really minded Odysseus' loyalty by faithfully waiting for him. And she fends off the suitors who believe Odysseus is dead. This theme of loyalty is just an everyday thing in our modern lives. It's the glue in relationships and the backbone of trust in our personal and professional lives. Loyalty drives us to stand by friends and family to support them through the thick and thin.

Odysseus relationship with Penelope indicates the sturdy marital values. Penelope and Odysseus love each other even though they are separated for twenty years. Odysseus uses his intelligence to get domestic to Penelope, and Penelope makes use of her intelligence

He is the hero of the story, but What do you think makes a hero, his loyalty or his bravery? A Hero is someone who is loyal, such as loyal to his country, his family and loyal to his god or gods.

After reading The Odyssey, one may infer that Penelope is portrayed as the ideal woman and wife according to ancient Greek culture through her characteristic of faithfulness. One example of Penelope’s faithfulness in The Odyssey is her waiting for Odysseus’ return after 20 years of being gone. As Penelope is talking to Odysseus, who is disguised as a beggar, she says, “If [Odysseus] returned, if he were here to care for me, I might be happily renowned” (Homer 1310-1311). As Penelope explains to the beggar how much she misses Odysseus, she is unaware that Odysseus is the beggar. She pours out how despite the numerous suitors contending for her hand, her heart is still with Odysseus.

In The Odyssey, the theme of loyalty relates to Odysseus’s physical journey back to Ithaca. Many characters in the epic are loyal and faithful, like Penelope, Telemachus, Eumaeus, and even Odysseus himself. Penelope remains loyal to her husband, by not choosing a suitor during the 20 years he’s gone. “And there she [Penelope] sat down with the case on her knees and burst into sobs as she drew out her husband’s bow,” (Homer 317). Just carrying out Odysseus’s bow with such sorrow shows how in love she was with Odysseus and how the thought of choosing a new husband moved her to tears. As Penelope remained loyal to Odysseus and

Right after Penelope gave birth to their son, Telemachus, he left for war. He told his wife that if Telemachus had a beard before he came back, to assume he was dead. Some could argue that it was a good thing that he went to war, but he wasn’t faithful to his wife while he was away. He cheated on Penelope for six years with Calypso, even living on her island until she demanded he leave (mindmeister.com). She remained faithful to him, even when she thought he was dead and when there was men at her palace trying to pursue her.

When reading The Odyssey three main characters stand out that show their trustworthiness to Odysseus while he is away fighting in the Trojan War and trying to make his way back to Ithaca. It seems to me that the most loyal of all these characters is easily be overlooked, but it would definitely have to be Odysseus’s wife Penelope. Even after nearly twenty years apart from her husband, she still remains faithful to Odysseus and refuses to marry one of the awaiting suitors that hassle her day in and day out. There even came a time when Penelope told the suitors that she would wed once she finished Laertes’ shroud, but stated, ‘I would weave that mighty web by day; but then by night, by torchlight, I undid what I had done. One of the most striking examples of familial loyalty is found in the character of Penelope, Odysseus's wife. Despite enduring years of separation from her husband, Penelope remains faithful to him, resisting the advances of the suitors who seek her hand in marriage. Odysseus’ wife Penelope for twenty years stayed faithful and loyal to her husband despite being coveted by many suitors for all that time. For Odysseus to engage and interact with another woman and act upon her in lustful ways is completely unacceptable behavior for a married man. Despite his longing for home and certain points in time, it doesn’t permit him for sleeping with Calypso for over seven years! Odysseus’ poor decisions makes him nothing short of a disgrace. A true hero would stay loyal to his married other no matter what and would not even think twice about it. She is also faithful to her husband even as she is tempted by suitors who invade her house. She stays true to Odysseus: “So I pay no heed to strangers, suppliants at my door not even heralds out on their public errands here — I yearn for Odysseus, always, my heart pines away” (Homer 19. 149-151) Odysseus’ obstacle with Penelope is getting home safely. The motivating factor for this journey is to see his wife, Penelope. His survival is tested over and over but he understands his love is waiting for him.

Odysseus is unfaithful to Penelope by sleeping with women on his journey home, while Penelope has remained loyal for seventeen years despite the pressure from the suitors as well as others. Odysseus good heroic quality does not overtake his characteristics of not becoming a heroic

After twenty years apart from Odysseus, Penelope longed for her husband to return with the frank hope that he still lived. She stayed faithful to Odysseus even when everyone declared he was dead and her handsome suitors battled for her hand in marriage. Loyalty is the most desired value in an individual, human or not, whether it’s toward your family, country, or a cause.

One person who shows the most loyalty in the Odyssey is Odysseus’ wife, Penelope. “She was able to prove her loyalty to her husband through her faithfulness and cunning plans to fend off the suitors”(LaRoche Lindsay,1).

I will be explaining the following; Queer Theory, Radical feminism, sex=gender, biology is not destiny, youth non conformity, hegemonic masculinity, transgender and gender based harassment. I have used these six concepts because they highlight how sexuality and gender are constructed by society. This construction causes a heterosexual norm, which some people do not identify under. I have focused on Queer Theory because it depicts what is considered ‘normal’ regarding gender and sexuality. I also chose Radical theory to show how the construction of gender and sexuality can have a negative effect on women.
