You have done a really good job with your paper. You have a clear thesis that states the main points you are using to support your research question. You have incorporated several sources to back up the main points of your thesis. For example, this quote, “In 2000, at least 12 states were recycling 30% or more of solid waste and some communities within those states were recycling 50% or more”, backs up your main point that recycling programs help to diminish the amount of solid waste in landfills. You also state that recycling can save over 10 billion gallons of gas per year, which helps back up your point that recycling has economic benefits. You used the blue cart program to support the main point of more people participating in recycling
I believe that we should do are best when it comes to recycling. For Gatesburg to do a succeful recycling everyone needs to have the same goal. If everyone works together this would work. As for the different color trash bins, I dont think it will be as big as a problem. Most citizens are aware of the landfill problems and will do there best to comply with the law. Other cities have done this and it has been very prosperous for them!
Even though composting has its disadvantages it is still a better alternative than food wasting and it is a safer way to get rid of non-edible foods or food scraps. According to Chen it keeps farm soil moist due to its ability to retain water for long periods of time making the soil healthier for plants and crops to grow (Chen). Composting is also beneficial for the environment because it reduces pollution and methane gas, and it protects ground water quality. If food scraps are not making it to landfills then it is reducing the production of methane gas making it less likely for global warming to occur. In addition, it is a cheap alternative that benefits the crops being grown and contributes to the health of the planet, something that should
The American people unintentionally destroy Waste Management by reducing and recycling the amount of waste. There is a disconnection between the people and Waste Management. Even though Waste Management has more landfill capacity than others, no one wants to increase its wasteland profit. The business environment and sociocultural have changed. The changing environment and the trend analysis has supported the idea of many companies choosing the zero-waste route. This will therefore reduce revenues for Waste Management, creating an ambiguous future for the corporation.
Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) is what is commonly known as trash or garbage. The continents of Municipal Solid Waste consist of array of inorganic, organic, human solid waste, and hazardous materials. It has been said that in earlier history of waste management used open dumps as the popular method of waste deposal. The waste method used to make deposal of the waste during pre-industrial were not advanced at all ,however, overtime this has changed dramatically modern landfills are complex enterprises now. Solid waste landfills are now built to be environmentally friendly and have a higher protection against contaminants and motoring groundwater contaminants (Landfills, 2014). In the modern landfills there is consists
The terrestrial resource I chose was solid waste. The EPA defines solid waste as “any garbage or refuse, sludge from a wastewater treatment plant, water supply treatment plant, or air pollution control facility and other discarded material, including solid, liquid, semi-solid, or contained gaseous material resulting from industrial, commercial, mining, and agricultural operations, and from community activities. What this basically means is that anything that we produce and do not reuse is solid waste. If you really stop and think about how often we see this in our everyday lives it is amazing. From our stop at Starbucks in the morning to get our cup of coffee and
The studied countries, cities and township are a mixture of cultures, creed, religions and they implement the variety of solid waste management systems. The outcome of this analytical research provides a comprehensive analysis on stakeholders and some key factors that affect those systems. Waste management involves a large number of different stakeholders, with different fields of interest. They all play a role in shaping the system of a city, but often it is seen only as a responsibility of the local authorities. In the best of the cases, the citizens are considered co-responsible together with the municipality.
Municipal waste is disposed of in three different ways. As of 2004 it is estimated that 71 percent is land filled, 16 percent incinerated, and 13 percent recycled. Other wastes that have to be disposed of are nuclear and hazardous wastes. The environmental effects of different waste management solutions will be discussed as well as ideal ways, in my opinion, to dispose of different forms of solid wastes.
Subterranean irrigation planters (SIPs) allow input water to be applied directly to the root zone where plants (trees are included in this) are able to perform uptake by capillary action. This reduces surface evaporation and increases effective irrigation efficiency while also containing the root systems of individual plants. This form of irrigation can be used in conjunction with system wastewater from the production of fish or other aquaculture allowing the nutrients to be recycled back into a plant system while also reducing negative environmental and monetary impacts of traditional solid waste disposal. This process reduces the effort needed to sustain the plant, while also reducing the functioning costs of maintenance and water. Additionally, the added nutrients improve the health of the plant, and utilize the otherwise wasted resources found in the fish effluent.
In our current society there’s a lot of talk about waste management. Buzzwords like “sustainability,” “eco-friendly,” and “biodegradable” find their way into our lives. Into our homes. But is it just aimed at the individual, or does it go beyond the doors of our homes? We all know that industry is everywhere. It in some way encompasses every aspect of our daily routine. From the packaging your toothpaste comes in, to the parts that make up the vehicle you drive, it all originated at a commercial or industrial facility. The UXL Encyclopedia of Water Science states “Commercial operations are those that provide a service or sell a product.” (Hoyle, 419) What we may not realize is just how much waste these multi-faceted

Municipal solid waste collection, treatment and disposal are particularly problematic in developing country cities (Jessen, 2002). The same goes for institutions where tons of solid wastes are generated. Studies by Lehmann et al, (2009), Velazquez et al, (2006) and Zilahy and Husingh, (2009) have revealed that universities play key roles when promoting sustainable programs in society. Academic institutions have the capacity of putting into practice strategies for sustainable development which could be incorporated into their academic programs, outreach facilities operation and impact surrounding communities. Very importantly, of the many environmental problems that must be addressed is the issue relating to the increasing amounts of solid waste in our urban areas which has to be managed effectively and sustainably.

Waste disposal is a huge concern for our planet earth. Seven billion people live on earth and every single one of us creates waste. A lot of people think that their responsibility is over once the garbage is in the garbage bin and the garbage workers take it away, but that is not true. There is so much more to the process of waste disposal.
