The transition to high school is a pivotal moment in many students’ lives. They become more challenged in their classes and learn new ways to deal with ideas. The exposure from these new experiences forever changes the way they look at future concepts. Oliver Wendell Holmes once said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” These experiences opened my eyes to a whole new world. I learned new ways to work with problems and work with others to achieve goals which is why I agree with Holmes’ words. Once you begin to look at concepts in extraordinary ways it is impossible for you to go back to a singular way of seeing it. You are capable of producing higher level thoughts and answers to simple questions.
This quote constantly running through my mind as I begin the most important year of my entire high school career. Every morning as I sit on the bus on my way to school, I can’t help but replay a time during my freshman year when myself and everyone else around me weren’t sure if I would continue in school long enough to see my senior year.
The high school years seem to fly by and this year is no different. As we enter into fourth marking period, it is nice to look back and reflect on all that your children have accomplished. The transition from middle school to high school is not an easy one, for the student or the parents. We hope that we helped to make it a bit easier for them. Thank you for your support throughout the school
Middle school to high school is a big jump from not only school to school but also new people coming into our school, harder academics, sports are now a part of your school life, and a jump from school to school. My thoughts on high school have really changed over the past few weeks. When I first realized that we we're going to be in high school shortly, I got a little freaked out. Although I know alot of high schoolers and specific people that go to West I still feel overwhelmed by the fact that i'm going from a 600 person school to a 1,200+ person school. For the longest time I felt if high school would be the hardest part of my life and getting accustomed to the new setting would be hard for me, I thought the people there we're mean and
Ah, high school. The only place where people can see a person’s future change in an instant. Just like pages in the book no human has ever read and remembered, what experiences we had in high school can never be replicated. Our minds change in high school and because of these changes we only experience what we interpret as good and bad never truly knowing what could have been if we had only changed one word in a sentence or the facial expressions we made. This is true not in just high school but in adult life itself.
Transitioning from elementary or middle school to high school can be a new experience with chaos. If one is entering a humongous school that has two separate buildings, as known as south and north. There are many problems and skills that will be helpful for one to survive successfully in high school. As I have been in high school for almost five years, I want my future juniors to not make mistakes that I made during transitioning to high school.
High school has brought on a lot of new pressures regarding learning and preparing for
When I thought about coming to high school, I thought it would be horrible. People would always say that there are evil teachers that give you a week's worth of homework and only give you a few hours to do it, disgusting lunches that never want to make you look at food again, and P.E. classes that work you so hard you'll want to throw up. Now that I'm here I see that high school isn't all that bad. Although I'm sure their out there somewhere, I haven't gotten any teachers that give out a ton of homework. The school lunches aren't bad at all, in my opinion. And the P.E. classes haven't started but I went to Prescott so I think I'll do just fine in that category. I think that my high school experience will be something fun that I will remember
I walked along the dim hallways practically clinging to the walls as we skittishly rounded the large corridors. It was obvious we were freshman by the terrified looks on our faces as our eyes darted back and forth searching for our next class. The high school hallways were not the most welcoming, as we soon found out.
My eighth grade year has been a crazy year. There has been a lot of work and preparation for moving into high school. Eighth grade was my last year as a middle schooler. I am sad but also excited for what's to come. I assume that I will like high though. This year has had highs but it's also had its lows. Overall I have enjoyed this year quite a bit. I have enjoyed my whole middle school career, I guess you could say it has been fun. I am excited to move on though and see what's to come.
How enriching was your freshman year whether it was in middle school or in high school? Would you change it in any way or prefer something else if you could go back? A lot of school districts out there already have made the transition of moving the 9th graders to high school so this will not apply to those; this will apply to those that have not yet made that transition. Much debate is occurring throughout the United States, particularly my school district, as to whether they should move the 9th grade up to the high school or keep it at the middle school level. To maximize the high school experience, I am supporting the idea of my school district moving the 9th graders up to the high school so that in turn, they will be more prepared for college.
I love the rewards that comes from being a leader. This is why I don’t back down from any leadership opportunities I can get. During my senior year of high school, I participated in Link Crew, a youth leadership program that helps incoming freshmen transition to high school and learn about the campus. I led ten freshmen and was able to make them feel comfortable by showing them around campus as newcomers. Within this leadership position, I was able to stressed the importance of time management and encouraged them to always stay focused. After the usual brief introductions, we did some fun activities to break the ice and move on to a more casual environment. Before long, we got to know each other better. I shared them my experience during freshman
To begin with, school has always been like an annoying chore for me, just as it was for my father. For one thing, I can’t stand waking up early, I find the arbitrary rules ridiculous, and I don’t recognize a point in homework when the class already spends hours in school doing already doing the work. In fact, even when I was a child school was just as awful. Certainly the chances are that if it wasn’t for my mother, I wouldn’t bother trying to earn a spot in a college and maybe even bothering to finish high school. Frequently my mother is one of the constant reminders that keeps me going. My mother has tried to be like an alarm clock for me, always making sure I wake up. Whereas there’s my father who’s life after he dropped out of school showed
Knowing my background and where I come from I thought writing this essay would be quite easy! But as I start typing I start to think should I share my personal life with everyone? Yes I should! I have a very interesting background. My family and I have moved to a new place every year, there’s not one place I could say that I haven’t lived in all my life, in Houston.
When I entered high school in 2012, it was something completely different from what I was coming from. I was coming from a middle school with familiar faces and a comfortable environment. I had the option to continue at my middle school, but I wanted to try something new and go somewhere that was going to challenge me academically. However, at the time, not only was I in a new school, I was also around new people and in completely different surroundings. My peers partially prepared for what was to come in high school, but the uncomfortable feeling I felt walking into the doors of Beacon High School was something I did not expect. It was strange sitting among people I had never seen before; roughly 1,300 new faces. When I was going from elementary school to middle
The future holds an uncertain thing in life and with it come many responsibilities. I realized how things change so often happens as quickly and as unexpectedly as it does. The transition through middle school and high school has changed me thoroughly. I’ve learned that high school has made me smarter for who to trust and judge people more than I usually do. High school gave me more options, viewpoints, and ideas. I mature in almost every way, and learn more about myself for what I’m good at. There will be hard times but eventually get through them.
