UNC Charlotte has made a significant impact on my undergraduate career because this campus has an abundance of resources, a helpful staff, a diverse atmosphere, and plenty of opportunities for campus involvement. This university has a variety of staff, all of which have been helpful in my college experience. They are excellent about working with students so they can gain the most out of their educational experience. For example, when I have sought out more information on which portion of Spain to go to, so that I may improve my Spanish fluency, my professor was extremely helpful. She sat down with me and explained about what it is like living in Spain, tips for where to go, and what to expect from the different regions. This valuable information
McDaniel College had first been created when its first building went up in 1866-1867. The school was the first institution that was south of the Mason-Dixon line and was coeducational. The first name that the school had was Western Maryland. That name originated because the institutions first board chairman (John Smith Wakefield) was president of the railroad, which had been called Western Maryland Railroad. The railroad had run through the college town. McDaniel had been one of forty colleges in the nation to be recognition in the New York Times education writer Loren Pope’s book, “Colleges That Change Lives” ("World Ranking Guide”). Just a few years ago it opened its College of Osteopathic Medicine, making it a great place for aspiring surgeons and physicians to earn their medical degrees. The school's College of Health Sciences is also home to an award-winning nursing school where students can earn nursing degrees. Current nurses can also attend the nursing school to earn their Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing degrees. This program gives aspiring instructors of nursing the knowledge they need to teach the next generation of nurses vital skills. The majority of people will decide to change their health behavior throughout their lifetime. The reasons for the change might be quite different from individual to individual. Some may be motivated to take action after experiencing a life threatening illness, while others are proactive and change their health behavior to decrease the risks of developing a potential disease. However, even if the reasons for the change are valid and well understood, there is a great possibility that one will not follow set goals long term. Stacy Carter, an assistant of professor and an author of the Social Validity Manual, expresses her opinion about people implementing a scientifically proven health behavior change treatment in their routine, “if it's something that is going to cause them a lot of effort, or is difficult to implement, then they probably are not going to use it for long” (Cranford, 2011). At my graduate assistantship at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ), the graduate students from Monmouth were introduced to a few of the key offices that work with Residential Education and Housing. Through this introduction, I was able to meet Kelly Hennessy, who is the current Associate Dean of Students in the Department of Health and Wellness at The College of New Jersey. As a future Student Affairs professional, one of my end goals would ultimately become a Dean of Students, so it was exciting to interview Hennessy and see how she got to where she is today. Originally when Hennessy first started her college years, she thought that she wanted to be a teacher. After working with the professionals in her Residence Life Office and Leadership Office at the University of Buffalo, where she received both her bachelors and master’s degrees, she realized that her passion was no longer teaching, but rather to become the professionals she was surrounded and inspired by every day. Hennessy has worked in Residence Life for majority of her career up to about two years ago when the Department of Health and Wellness first started on TCNJ’s campus.
East Tennessee State University (ETSU) is a public, coeducational institution situated in Northeast Tennessee. It is one of the campuses that is governed by the Tennessee Board of Regents. Its main campus is in Johnson City, with other centers in Kingsport, Elizabethton and Bristol. It was founded in 1911 with the name East Tennessee Normal School, aimed at educating their graduates to become teachers. The institution received university status in 1963 with accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (ETSU, 2016).
My desire was to challenge myself and pursue my belief in life-long learning. And yes, the last eight weeks have definitely been a challenge intellectually in IDS 101. After the first two weeks of school, I seriously questioned why I would go back to school at fifty-one years of age for personal satisfaction. The days were long and I wasn’t sure I still had the self-discipline and determination that would be needed to finish. Over the last eight weeks, this class gave me numerous opportunities to hone my skills in critical thinking, research, and writing. This class has given me the necessary skills to continue toward completing my degree.
Throughout the countless pages of history, there exists many occurrences of change. Some of these changes are positive while others are negative. Nevertheless, as each change occurs, it must undergo struggles to become accepted. One example of the struggles of change that is seen in today’s society is the ongoing fight for religious freedom. Another change that is currently facing obstacles is the fight to change policies that raise the question of equality. Lastly, another struggle for change is the conflict that is occurring in order to make same-sex marriage legal. In looking at the numerous experiences that I have encountered where change has been more than needed and wanted, I feel that my experience working in the Salt Lake Valley Detention Center for five years and leaving to pursue change is a great example of the use of a change model. When I began working in detention in 2009, I felt empowered and validated for the work that I was doing. I also felt that the work that I was doing was making a difference in the lives of the youth I worked with. I had amazing rapport with the youth and staff alike and quickly moved up the latter. As I climbed the latter, I worked to ensure that the staff and I maintained the best interests of the youth. In maintaining a high level of integrity and fairness, we saw dramatic decreases in recidivism among the youth we served and noticed that the staff enjoyed coming to work. However, several years later the facility was sub contracted out and many of the administrative and line positions were cleared out and filled with new personnel. As the new agency filled the positions with various new staff, the change had a negative effect on the previous processes. As the changes continued so did the responses/ behavior of the youth. It seemed like the consideration for the youth and concern for their best interest were pushed aside to fulfill quotas. With the high level of stress this brought on staff, I as well as many others attempted to “Walk on” to find new alternative that would allow us to maintain our efforts, but were unsuccessful. With numerous failed attempts and meetings with admin that resulted in nothing more that frustration, I chose to “Walk out.” In walking out, I continued working with youth in an area that allows me to be a bigger part of the process where I can be more effective. Through this experience, I would say that the seven step process would be very close to the ways in which I addressed the concerns within the detention center prior to leaving and then after as I sought to empower the youth in my community. In part of this change process, I have also undertaken higher education to ensure that I can better meet the needs of those within my community and to strengthen myself so that I can work in situation were those I
The novels ‘Big World’ and ‘Aquifer’ reveal deep insights into personal discoveries. Tim Winton explores personal discoveries of guilt through the narrators of both short stories. Both stories share similar traits, their main characters reflect on the past to discover their personal guilt. The narrator of Big World plans a road trip to escape from his home town and his failed final high school exams. He embarks on his trip, aware that his mother plans for him to repeat year 12 and begin a brighter future. The narrator discovers his incredible guilt for leaving his mother without considering her plans for him “there is an ache that is still there inside me” a metaphor implicates the emotion of guilt Winton conveys. The Transforming Vision, written by Brian Walsh and Richard Middleton, yearn for a change in the way Christianity is viewed. According to the authors, science, technology and economic growth is what shapes our society, while Christianity stands in the sidelines. The authors aspire to see a change in Christianity where it “may receive social and cultural embodiment.” In the first chapters, Walsh and Middleton explore the reason behind why Christianity of North Americans is so disembodied compared to others. In addition, Transforming Vision explores the different types of worldviews compared to a Christian worldview, or biblical view. Furthermore, it discusses how the different type of world views affects us and if there is any worldview better than another.

Change in a business is inevitable and typically only the strongest thrive. With a fluctuating economy and constant technological advancements, organizations are expected to adapt in order to survive. When a business is posed with an issue or change, it must develop new business and strategy structures and implements those developments throughout the entire company. Communication, education and participation are all required for a change model to be successful. Though change and adaptation may be needed to better the company, with implementation of change comes resistance. Change comes in many forms and has a range of effects, which are either negative or positive on those who experience it and respond to it. Change, particularly in relation to the topic ¡°Changing perspective creates awakening¡±, is a view that is repeatedly explored and been written in poem/film by thousands of composers.
