When Tom returns from the movies, he shows us his desire to escape by talking about the magician who was nailed in a coffin and got out. He then compares his apartment and his current life situation that of the magician climbing into a coffin — now the question is: how can he get out of his coffin being okay with all that has

He begged and offered things to the devil to get the deal reversed, but nothing. There was no changing to the situation that had already been done. Tom became a very violent church-goer, he would attend church every chance possible to maybe regain the soul he has lost. Hi hotcakes. You know, I'd have to be involved in your campaign....calm Ben down and make sure he's calm before we collide until then I am out of the picture, unless he needs me before. He is stubborn, the detour and my campaign will be him getting back to me from the last time I saw him. He will use his MAIN resource, the internet. Yes, Ill do everything possible (by using all of my resources) having everyone show him, even the best trip and fall down, but "struggle builds character" until his last resource is just the internet again.
Tom is the most important character, yet he is not a flawless figure. Tom is irritated and annoyed easily, impatient and ignorant. His anger is clearly displayed in scenes with Gwen who expresses illiterate and disrespectful comments towards Tom’s family. Tom develops to acquire his own appealing death, during the course of the play. He has been hesitant to speak about his death, as he ignores Meg’s attempt to begin a conversation on the matter: “Are you afraid? / You coming to the concert tonight?”. Gow signifies Tom’s acceptance by giving him King Lear’s lines about crawling towards death.

Soon after he makes his way out on the ledge, fear starts to consume Tom. All he can picture is himself falling and dying, he just desperately wants to get back inside his home. He makes the mistake of looking down and seeing the street below them and shakes, “a violent shuddering beyond control, his eyes squeezing so tightly shut it is painful, though he is past awareness of that. His teeth are exposed in a frozen grimace, the strength draining like water from his knees and calves” (103). Tom’s selfishness and ambition has diminished and is being replaced by fear.
As a primary school student growing up in a major agricultural town, I can say with certainty that
“He understood fully that he might actually die:” (Finney 123:2) He realizes how much danger he is actually in. His perseverance changes here, “He was simply not going to cling here till he slipped and fell; he told himself that now. There was one last thing he could try…” (Finney 123:3) Tom then decides that he needs to get back inside because the paper is no longer any of his concern, and all he wants to do is see his wife.
Tom escapes reality in many different ways. The first and most obvious is the fire escape that leads him away from his unhappy home. He also escapes into his world of poetry writing and movies. The more Amanda nags, the more Tom seems to need his movie escapes. They take him to
Having faith in god and letting go of the treasure releases the chains of greed and satan. All his pain caused by the devil would be gone but he still wants his treasure. Hoping god will save him is false hope. Carrying around a bibles not knowing the the true power they posses is like holding a shield made of cooked noodles to change. Fear has now consumed him not by desire to change. One leads to fate while the other leads to success beyond comprehension Tom Walker wants to change what he regrets but he never will when fear is all that is driving him. The pure heart he use to posse is addicted to greed and driving with fear.

Tom’s journey towards resolution of the mental trauma associated with the anxiety of his inevitable death requires a change in scene in order for him to understand and accept certain decease. At the beginning of “Away” Tom is well aware of his Fate and illustrates confusion and feeling of forfeit. In Scene 2 Act 4 Tom is desperate as he knows his pending death, he personally confronts Meg about having a “happy ending” before he dies. This is a focal point for Tom as it is the first time he openly expresses his grief about his diminishing time this scene also creates contrast in justifying Tom’s anxiousness as his death draws closer from the beginning of the play when he saw meg for much more than a sexual item, Tom begins to recognise what he has become and hastily changes subject and humours Meg. The play then closes with Gow creating Shakespearian allusion with Tom reading the lines from “King Lear”, “While we unburdened crawl towards death”. Which is used symbolically with Tom’s state, the pillar in
