The surgeon may suggest doing an arthroscopy, just to make sure it’s not arthritis causing the pain. An arthroscopy is where an incision is made in your elbow and a small camera is inserted to see what is happening inside your elbow. However, an arthroscopy is not always necessary. The surgery begins with an incision on the medial (inside) side of the elbow. Then the tendon from another part of the patient’s body is inserted into the elbow. The new tendon is usually found in the person’s forearm, hamstring, knee, or foot. The procedure of replacing one tendon with another tendon from the same body is known as autograft. In order for the surgeon to see the problem they must split the flexor muscle and then reattach them after the procedure is over. The surgeon will drill two holes in the ulna and three holes at the end of the humerus. The tendon is threaded through the first two holes then through the triangular shaped holes at the end of the humerus. After the tendon is secured, sutures are placed at each end of the tendon. The surgeon uses the sutures to pull and bring the new tendon to the right amount of tightness. Then the sutures are tied together to hold the tendon in place. After the surgeon has completed all of these steps, the insertion is stitched back up. (EOrthopod). Once the surgical procedure is finished, the doctor will explain the recovery
Dr. Frank Jobe developed a procedure for pitcher Tommy John (who the surgery was named after). With vivid research of the ligaments inside the medial elbow he developed a way to make the elbow back to normal strength or in some cases much more stronger. This surgery consisted of the new tendon being implanted and woven in a figure-eight pattern through holes
In Drew Marcos presentation, were first introduced to one athlete, in particular, Tommy John, an American professional baseball (left-handed) pitcher, who permanently damaged his ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching arm, leading to a revolutionary surgical operation. known as Tommy John surgery. It replaced the ligament in the elbow of his pitching arm with a tendon from his right forearm. The surgery was performed by Dr. Frank Jobe in 1974. After the surgery, the odds were against John, since there was a 1 in 100 success rate for that operation. But, he took a season off to recover and worked with a kinesiologist, who taught him a completely different way to pitching, eliminating the chance of him hurting his knee and arm. Before his surgery he won 124 games after his surgery 164 games won, John continued to play for 14 more years, retiring in 1989. Marcos, went on to discuss scapular strength and positional impairments such as scapular dyskinesia, insufficient posterior tilt, excessive abduction and prominent inferior medial border, which are all factors that play a part in the inverted “W” pitching position; that Marcos believes, is one of the driving forces behind the some pitcher’s injuries and the Tommy

Many people believe that Tommy Douglas was the best Canadian with the most important contributions. There is an abundance of reasons as to why this opinion exists. One such reason was that Tommy Douglas began his career as a minister. Whilst practicing, Douglas supported and helped fellow community members. Douglas was a full time minister at the Cavalry Baptist Church in Weyburn Saskatchewan. His initial career choice brought him closer with the community as he provided his civil service. This put Douglas in a better position for his political career which was to follow. A second reason Douglas is thought of as the greatest Canadian is due to his hand in the solidification and support of the political party known as the CCF (Co-operative

The team doctor informed me, I would most likely have to get surgery on my UCL, more commonly known as Tommy John reconstructive surgery. The UCL is located on the inside of the elbow, below the bone. The injury happened when I was fielding a difficult ground ball up the middle, which is a very tough play to make as a second baseman. I had cleanly fielded the ground ball, and as I turned to throw in mid arm motion, I felt a pop in my right elbow. The pain in the elbow was such a sharp and stinging pain. I decided I was going to stay in the game because we were playing against the second strings at Union High School. As the game continued, another ground ball was hit in my direction and as I then proceed to throw the ball towards first base, and figured, I could not throw normal. Again just rest and rehab for 8
