* Scout’s moral development throughout To Kill a Mockingbird has to do with how she is taught to see “the other”, her exposure to racism and injustice, and that she had Atticus as a parent to guide her through her childhood. These factors together create a stable learning environment for Scout to grow and develop in.
To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, starts off describing Maycomb as a sleepy, "tired old town." Which was a result from the Great Depression. Remind you, the Great Depression is one of, if not, the darkest times in American history. It was the worst economic downturn in industrialized world. Thus, it every some town, including Maycomb. With no money, and no means to make money, the people in Maycomb moved at a slow pace, because of the financial distress.
Jean Louise Finch, otherwise known as Scout, learns a variety of life lessons during the course of “To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee. Over the course of “To Kill A Mockingbird”, Scout learns lessons such as: to kill a mockingbird is a sin, respect people’s privacy, and she cannot understand someone until she has seen things from their point of view. People such as Atticus, Tom Robinson and Mrs. Dubose help teach Scout these lessons, and guide her through life.
I believe the closure in To Kill a Mockingbird was predominantly satisfying. It was only predominantly satisfying for me because, I believe that Bob Ewell’s death should have been more punishing for his sins and provided more justice to Tom Robinson’s death than the ending portrayed. On the other hand, it is the most likely outcome in real life, but the process of his death should have been more severe than just a result of karma concerning only one of his crimes; harming children. The punishment should have extended to bring justice to Tom Robinson as well to restore the balance. There are very few loose ends left, because of the full closure provided, however the only two questions that remains is what happened to Mayella Ewell and if Dill
Robinson had a long career of scamming money from people and businesses, but his tastes in sexual encounters and his need to push the limits of control and the justice system are probably what drove him to deviate from the safety of only doing white collar crime to committing murder. Like previously stated, he was always looking for new ways to test the boundaries and that when Paula Godfrey, a nineteen-year-old naive girl came into his office looking for a job, he couldn’t resist the idea of asserting his control over her. He was her boss, and at the time a big financial supporter in her life. He took this control from being her boss to being the last person she will ever see and killed her. He did this with many other women luring them
Extreme circumstances can vastly change how a person views someone else. In To Kill a Mockingbird, the events that occur affect how some characters perceive what right and wrong is. Jem experiences the justice system; Scout views Boo differently; and Bob Ewell loses it.
In the town of Maycomb, Scout Finch, also known as Jean Louise, explores the ways adults interact and express different opinions in her society. Maycomb is a town filled with different people that belong to different castes. In their town, there are two main types of people, people who are white, and people who are colored. All adults in their society have their opinion to how these people should be treated, in which more than half are racist towards the colored people. Scout although is the daughter of a lawyer, named Atticus Finch, who follows the law and is against racism towards colored people. He is defending a colored man, named Tom Robinson, who is falsely accused of rape to Mayella Ewell by Bob Ewell. Scout mainly has been affected
The Start of Change People will be impacted by others around them or other life events, that will change them into a different version of themselves. In To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Scout is just your everyday girl until a life-changing discussion happens with her father, causing her to change. Lee characterizes Scout as childish at the beginning of the novel, but by the end of the novel, Scout has developed into a compassionate young woman. In chapter 9 of To Kill A Mockingbird, Scout gots into a fight with her cousin, Francis, in the front yard.
What started as just another novel, quickly turned into one of the most controversial novels of the 20th century. Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird was published on July 11, 1960 and has received much attention ever since. The story examines racial prejudice against blacks during the 1930s and is told from the point of view of six-year-old Scout Finch. It explains how society has influenced people's thinking in regards to other races and ethnicities.
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is relevant today in several ways. There are movements that are in the 21st century whose values are seen in the book. There are also lessons and morals in To Kill a Mockingbird that need to be understood by people today. After looking at these things, we know that To Kill a Mockingbird is still relevant today.
What bird is that singing so sweetly, so loudly, and for SO long in the middle of the night? If you're in North America, most likely it is the Northern Mockingbird, (Mimus polyglottos). This bird, whose Latin name means "many-tongued mimic," may sing the songs of up to two hundred other birds but it also may be the bully of your backyard, chasing all the other birds away.
Mockingbirds do nothing but make music for us to enjoy. A mockingbird can also be related to the human world. Some people can be considered as mockingbirds. In the human world mockingbirds can be the innocent people that are blame for situations when they didn’t do anything. People tend to blame others for things they know that the other person is not responsible for. In the early 1930s, the popularity of “Mockingbirds” was really high. This was mostly due to racism. Tom Robinson and Boo Radley are two people that can be represented as “Mockingbirds” in the book To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee.
The pounding of footsteps rang through the clearing. I could hear my heart thumping. The footsteps grew louder and louder. Harsh shouts erupted from behind me. They were coming. So, I ran. Time slowed as I darted in and out of the dark trees. I eyed the woods around me. Surely, there had to be a someone there, but I could see no one. All seemed calm, aside from hunting cry of a bird. Dimly, I sensed a presence behind me. I spun to meet my hunter a second too late. And all at once, I realized with a shock, I was hit.
The repetition of birds increases and decreases as each row goes by creating a progressive rhythm. The alternating rhythm is slow where there are only 2 birds paired together and is faster when there are three birds together. This pattern alternates through the
In the intriguing novel “How to kill a Mockingbird,” by Harper Lee the audience can comprehend a lot about life within the story and the interactions between characters. My Group and I have noticed a good amount of lessons to be learned, that we all think are important to try, value, and as well as achieve in life. For starters we learned that people are complicated, therefore you can’t judge them on rumors you hear, like Jem and “Boo”. Atticus said, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view...until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.” Another thing that we believe that everyone should try to achieve in life is that if and when a person is being rude or disrespectful to you, just stay calm and be civilized. When you react you give them more of a dominant feeling and you also are just turning into one of them. When Mr.Ewell spit in Atticus’ face, Atticus simply wiped it
