Toronto, the provincial capital of Ontario, is the city in Canada which has the greatest number of population. Its location is described as being in the South of Ontario, and is situated on the northwestern beach of Lake Ontario. River Don and River Humber lie on the sides of the main city area.
The history of the name Toronto takes its meaning from the word Tkaronto which means a place where trees stand in the water. This is in regard of the northern end of the city where there is Lake Simcoe. The city has almost 10 million trees, 4 million of them being publicly owned. There is significant variance in day to day temperature, especially during the winters. Moreover, the temperatures at the night are substantially different from the day due to proximity to water.
The design and structure of the city is quite varied. Old Toronto has some pieces of architect which are a distinctive feature of the city. Toronto skyline is known as the hub for telecommunications and tourism which is defined by CN Tower, which ranks second amongst the world’s tallest freestanding structure. Main public places of the city are City Hall, Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto Waterfront, Grange Park, Moss Park, Allan Gardens and Little Norway Park.
Toronto has a rich cultural background, and is often known as the most multi-culturally diverse city on the globe – this is because the city has more than 140 languages being spoken (Lonely Planet). The highways are congested and this relates to the population of the city.
The population of the city figures to 2.79 million and is also rated as the safest metropolitan area. The city provides shelter to a total of 8% of Canada’s total population and 20% of all immigrants. (Toronto
