Journal #3 Aly Daniels Thoughts from the Week: This week was exciting for me. I am actually going to be in the classroom three times this week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. I am excited to see what happens on Friday because it will be a new day and will be full of new adventures. We also get to dress up like a character from Because of Winn Dixie; I plan on being Ms. Franny the librarian. One high from this week was I taught my first lesson and it went really well. The students loved my lesson they had so much fun and their reactions were hysterical. My cooperating teacher also gave me positive feedback on my lesson and she said that she could tell the students really enjoyed my lesson. One of the most exciting parts of my lesson however, was the ending when we had our discussion. I could tell that the students had really learned the importance of adding detail and specifics to their sequencing writing. One low from the week was that I had to have a discussion with one of my students about respect. The teacher then confronted the student and they had to write me a note apologizing for being disrespectful. I hope that I will still be able to build a strong relationship with this student, and that our relationship is not strained because of this interaction. Even …show more content…
One way to improve the clarity or accuracy of communication with students is to make sure that I provide my instructions both visually and with audio so that I reach more learners. Another way that I can improve clarity or accuracy of communication is to slow down the pace of my instruction. I need to make sure to take the time to review items that the students seem confused about even if it means that my lesson may go a little longer than expected. It is important to adapt the pace of your lesson to meet your students and this is hard for me to do because I want to stick to my plan, but as a teacher it is sometimes better to deviate from the plan so your students get the most out of the
This week was not too bad in regards to any of the work I actually needed to do. There are definitely some concepts that I think I need to improve my understanding but I think that I did take away what was available from the texts we were provided.
Week 2 has been quite overwhelming. I did not have enough time to do my reading assignments over the weekend. I normally utilize Saturday and Sunday to do my research work and reading. Unfortunately, on Saturday morning, I attended a meeting that took half of the day, when I returned home my husband informed that he had invited our friends over for dinner as they will be leaving for Melbourne the following day. My house was a mess as it hadn't been cleaned the previous weekend when we were away. Thus, my whole Saturday was wasted on doing the trivial aspects of life. I missed church on Sunday so that I can catch up on my work and everything went well thereafter. I managed to complete my tasks. I found that a lot of students were divided when it came answering the forum discussion assignment on what would happen to bond prices if terrorism ended and countries adopted free trade. What's you take on this one?
After discussions with Mr. Meyer, Craig and I have elected to proceed with his suggestion that I write to each of Allye’s teachers on a weekly basis. Would you please comment on Allison’s behavior in class; is she participating and paying attention? Additionally, would you please provide information as to which tasks Allison will complete in the next week?
Effective communication is important so there are a number of strategies that can be used to make it easily understood and improve the effectiveness of the communication. positive communication in a classroom will help the children feel comfortable in your presence your own communication must always be positive and use language that will be understood by children and young people. Positive communication will promote trust which is important when working with all ages. By demonstrating the right kind of behaviour in different circumstances as well as body language the children and young person will gain in confidence. But not all children have access to consistent and effective communication so it is important that they see this at school and
Whilst listening make sure that you have eye contact and use different expressive words to show your interest.
This week was has been very productive for me. I’ve started to add resources and activities to my curriculum map and my research for my finding presentation is ongoing. I feel I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am aware of what I want to put in my curriculum map and things are starting to come together. I feel really good about my progress this week.
Ms. Bearden is an English teacher and co-founder of the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia where she has taught in grade levels from kindergarten to 8th grade. In her book, Crash Course: The Life Lessons My Students Taught Me, she discusses about her life of teaching a majority of African American scholars and how they completely improved her life. Each chapter is labeled carefully and precisely to give meaning in the classroom setting. The chapters that caught my attention most were called Magic, Recovery, and Tenacity.
Appropriate feedback is important as this will allow us to know if the person we are talking to has heard what we have said to them or asked of them. This can be achieved by asking the person to repeat what we asked them or by asking them to tell us what we have asked them to do. Engagement is also important as this lets us know if the person we are communicating with is looking at us and engaging with us. This can be seen through either eye contact or body language. Listening and understanding is another factor for effective communication because if someone does not listen they can not understand and therefore the task you have asked of them will not be completed. An important factor of effective communication is interpretation, this is because we have to make sure the person we are talking to has understood the meaning of what we have asked and not interpreted it in a different meaning. Finally, the last principle is showing respect to the person who is speaking at the time. This is needed as without respect the other person may not do as you ask or may do something different to what you have asked of them. For effective communication to be followed all these principles are needed to be followed by all parties whether it be the teacher, teaching assistants, child, young
While auditing courses for her own education and interest a professor realized that the students were relating to her as if she was a student. She was behaving as a student, asking questions, going regularly to class and doing the required readings and in turn the other students began sharing insights, gossip and opinions she would never hear as a professor. Rebekah Nathan (pseudonym assumed by the author, Cathy Small, for purposes of the book) recognized that “even after my fiftieth birthday, I could still be a student, and treated by other students as, more or less, a peer”(Nathan, 2005, para. 71). She decided use her sabbatical to study campus life through a student’s viewpoint, instead of the professor-student perspective.
My week was not fun but I did a lot. I am all most done with my reading goal. My mom and dad are going to Las Vagus so, I can play games all weekend. My brothers and I are going to eat ever thing. These are the reasons I had a fun week and
Effective communication is important for developing positive relationships with children, young person and adults as it creates and forms a relationship. Effective and positive communication leads to a positive relationship. In order to communicate effectively we must first work out what we are trying to get across to the other person. If we understanding clearing what we are saying then it will be a lot clear for the other person. We must also make sure they have understood you can check this by asking them to repeat back what you have said.
I have my vehicle back, so it was a good day. The only downside would be that there was a two hour delay, and the classes were all mixed up. It also affected the students. It also showed me that I need to prepare
These two weeks have been busy working on forms for teachers and working with a program called Flubaroo. These weeks have been full of learning and creating new forms that further increases my education.
The three most important things I learned this Fall are be familiar with the campus environment, joining the campus actives, knowing the rules about the OU plagiarism. Those three things helped me to know about the college I am studying in, and helped me to be prepared for the future studying on main campus.
