Declaration of Independence is a sacred part of American history, one that at the time its purpose seemed as likely as the parting of the Red Sea. Yet it all came to the art of communication through words to grant independence and freedom to people of the land that now we call “United States of America.” Thomas Jefferson, a founding father of the constitution, was chosen, between the five in the committee appointed by congress, to write the declaration of independence. After writing the original draft, he consulted with the committee and changes were made to create the revised version of the declaration. Political and moral equality were the common beliefs of colonial Americans in the 18th century, widely spread by Christianity. In his original draft, Jefferson referred to truths such as “ all men are created equal,” and that “they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights” as “sacred & undeniable.” These truths are one of the most intrinsic social moral principles ever articulated; yet they were capable of being denied, and in fact were at the time. The revised version of the declaration of independence refers to these truths as “self-evident.” to better represent an argument against the divine rights of kings. The divine rights of kings had been used to justify the rule of might over right for so long. By labeling human equality and the right of rebellion against an unjust government as “self-evident” declaration of independence questions beliefs that are against what is stated in the declaration and asks people to choose between a status quo where the king is always right and god chooses some people to be special or a rebellion because all humans are created equal and deserve equal
The Declaration of Independence, written by Thomas Jefferson, was an important document that helped the colonists while their rights weren’t being respected by the government or the King. He continued by saying they didn’t take necessary laws into consideration or they abolished the laws they desperately needed. Jefferson argues that everyone should be treated equally and have the same rights, these were known as unalienable rights. In the letter, Jefferson uses logos, pathos, and ethos to further explain himself and convince the colonists to join him in declaring their independence. Jefferson begins by stating, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Thomas Jefferson is very significant in history not only for the offices he held, but also for his belief in the natural rights of man said in the Declaration of Independence and his faith in the people’s will to govern themselves. Born on April 13, 1743, Jefferson had six sisters and one brother. Though he opposed slavery, his family owned slaves. Thomas developed an interest in botany, geology, cartography, and North American exploration, and from his teacher a like for Greek and Latin. The Declaration of Independence in 1776 became the defining event in Thomas Jefferson's life. An committee subsequently assigned him the task of producing a draft document for its consideration. His hometown being named after the birthplace of Thomas Jefferson’s mothers.
There are many people other than Thomas Jefferson that considers his election revolutionary. The reason for this is because of the changes that was made in the presidency and in Congress. The Federalist lost control of both, presidency and Congress, and the Republicans took control. Jefferson was the vice president of John Adams from 1797-1801. In 1800 Jefferson was elected to president. There was a tie between Jefferson and Burr with 73 electoral votes a piece and the committee chose Jefferson to be the next president and Burr would be the vice president.
When one says the name, “Thomas Jefferson,” one usually thinks of the American Revolution, and him as the third President of the United States of America. It is true he was apart of the American Revolution, and he was also the third President of the United States of America. Little do people know that he also was a writer. He was the author of many letters and was also the one to draft the American Declaration of Independence. Although Thomas Jefferson was mainly known for being the third President of the U.S., he was also a brilliant essayist.
The Declaration of Independence has influenced the United States Constitution in many ways. In the Declaration the government was “corrupt” and unjust, it was also written as if we were united but that was not true and the Constitution justifies these wrongs. I examined many articles containing details of Jefferson’s propensity to live life against the principles he assigned to the nation he helped found.
