September 11th, 2001 will be a day that Americans remember for many years to come. A tragedy that killed nearly 3000 innocent people. Fifteen years have passed since that infamous day but it will live on through history forever. Although it will never be forgotten, people tend to read up on the events every year or two, especially around the time it happened. As a way to remember or mourn and gain more knowledge on the attacks, people will often read articles or look at photographs of the event. The article “America marks 15-year anniversary of 9/11 Attacks” and Thomas E. Franklins photograph taken on the day of the attacks serve as a way for people to remember and get that information in their own separate ways.
The articles main purpose throughout is to inform. Because it is an article to mostly inform, it is riddled with facts throughout its entirety such as “Nearly 3,000 people died that day when Al Qaeda terrorists slammed hijacked planes

Considered one of the most influential photos in recent history, it hit close to home for many. The 9/11 attacks were a horrible event in history that killed thousands of people, and the article depicts it as such. In contrast, while this picture obviously showing the destruction that he collapses caused, it shows the heart that the USA has. It appeals to the patriotism Americans have for their country. When a person is born in a certain country, or even immigrates to one, they tend to feel patriotic towards that country, especially in times of trial. People remember that when the country was attacked, the American people came together and united as one. The article tends to make people sad but that photo reminds people that the United States will not be beaten. That they cannot be defeated and will fight back and stand strong against anyone who tries to even do so. The United States will rise from the ashes, as that flag is literally
9/11 plays a big role in American history. It commemorates a date for those affected by this traumatic event. Many can still remember the day, just as if it was yesterday – what they were doing and where they were. The vast majority of our sophomore class had not even been born, or old enough to recall this event. This date in American history unified us as a country.
There have been many turning points in American History; however none have the same effect as September 11, 2001, and many Americans relate the day to the country’s loss of innocence. As a result of 9/11 many American’s lives were affected emotionally, physically, economically, and politically.
Traveling to the 9/11 memorial brought a heavy feeling to my heart today. It’s pretty hard to go somewhere and stand on the ground where thousands and thousands of people lost their lives. Especially since I personally lost loved ones during the attacks. Not only did the going into the memorial bring a different feeling to you, it was also one of the best educational experiences I’ve had in a while. I learned so many things that happened that day than I really actually knew about. For instance, I never really had full insight on what had actually happened on the place during the hijacking, but after memorial had all these short little clips that explained each scenario in depth. Another one of my favorite parts of the memorial
September 11, 2001 is one of the most infamous dates in American history. On this day, 19 radicalized Islamic militants hijacked four United States-based airplanes. Two of the planes were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. Thousands of first responders, occupants of the Towers and bystanders were killed or injured. The third plane flew into the Pentagon in Washington D.C. and 125 people were killed. The passengers on the fourth plane revolted and forced the hijackers to crash into a field in Stony Creek, Pennsylvania. A total of 3,000 people were killed and over 6,000 were injured that day (“9/11 Attacks” 1). After the most detrimental terrorist attack in the history of the United States, action needed to
Terrorist attacks have increased over the last twenty years, but one of the most remembered is the attack on the World Trade Center in New York City. It happened on September 11, 2001; and is commonly referred to as 9/11. Americans grow up learning details about 9/11; but rarely do we learn about a personal experience. In Adam Mayblum’s email “The Price We Pay,” he tells the story of what happened to him, and others around him on the day of September 11, 2001. Mayblum explains in paragraph ten “If you want to kill us, leave us alone because we will do it by ourselves. If you want to make us stronger, attack and we unite.” He made an excellent point with that statement, because he is right. He provides us with imagery, thoughts on terrorism, and strong use of emotions throughout the story that brings us a very well written narrative.
September 11th, 2001 is now a date discussed in history lessons. While the post-9/11 generations may not have witnessed the changes of this tragic event, which rapidly filled every crevice of US society, they have an entire generation ready to narrate what they witnessed on and after that day. The expeditious reaction made a permanent mark on American culture.
On the morning of September 11, 2001, an Islamic terrorist group known as al-Qaeda carried out a series of four attacks on the United States. The most well-known attack is when two commercial airline planes crashed into the Twin Towers in New York City. Many innocent lives were lost and families were torn apart. While many Americans were determined to show their resilience towards the attacks, this is a day many Americans will never forget. Although the attacks happened sixteen years ago, Americans are still dealing with the impacts these attacks have had on life in America. The 9/11 attacks have had several long-lasting effects on everyday life in America, some of which include an increase in airport security, a change in national security, and an increase the fear of terrorism.
One of the most controversial events ever to occur is still being talked about to this day. September 11th, 2001 will forever go down in history as one of the most tragic disasters to hit the United States of America. It was heartbreak for all of us to see those towers fall and thousands upon thousands of American lives destroyed. One might ask themselves; didn’t everything get explained a little too quickly? Why did everyone so quickly forget the details to this tragedy? The events of September 11th, 2001 are surely going to be remembered for its brutal truth and will always remind us of the hate that we as humans can create. The events of September 11th happened so fast that lots of details were overlooked but now, six years later one
On 2nd February 2017 I visited National September 11 Memorial and Museum which is located in the World Trade Center site in New York which was destroyed during the September 11attacks. I went with my two friends who also had interest in seeing the place for leisure and appreciate importance of historical artistic expressions. The place captured my attention to a greater extend by the art, artifacts and exhibitions around the place that I even started imagining how the attacks happened and the massive death of the victims.
I noticed that the photo is primarily focused on the two kissing making the background unfocused and blurry that I couldn't read some of the signs or see the crowd. Firefighter at Ground Zero taken by Thomas E. Franklin also shows the same aspects of Sailor Kissing Girl in Times Square. Hill and Helmers stated that the photo “ intended to use the American flag as a sign to rally the spirits of those working amidst the rubble of the Trade Center. (6) ” The photo main focus is on three firefighter putting the American flag up at the Trade Center after the September 11 attack. It’s the same as the Battle of Iwo Jima when soldiers had put the American flag up. The American flag represented the America’s way of showing respect to those who had died
On September 11, 2001, our nation experiences a terrible tragedy when four terrorist-controlled airplanes flew into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and a field in Pennsylvania. Over 3,000 people were killed, and thousands more were affected. In an effort to promote patriotism and unite the nation, citizens began displaying American flags, holding memorial services, and attending church.
Every time I think of September 11th, this image immediately pops into my head, bringing back a flood of memories. The Time Magazine with the date September 11, 2001 on it, with a devastating photograph of the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers in New York City, is the riveting image I chose to analyze. This magazine cover sticks out to me because it was the first thing I saw when I went back to school the following week after the terrorist attacks on September 11th. I was in fourth grade when this devastating time in history occurred. This magazine cover is hands down one of the most moving photographs that I have ever laid eyes on.
On the date of September 11th 2001, a horrific terrorist attack took place on the World Trade center. From this one act of evil caused thousands of individuals to perish in the matter of minutes. As time progresses on, the things that still remain are the memories and the footage of what occurred on that day. As the two buildings were in engulfed in flames and people stood helpless on the ground, some witnesses turned to photography and video footage to hopefully help this day to never be forgotten.
September 11, 2001 is a day that will remain in the hearts and history books of Americans for centuries. Americans turned on televisions, radios, and any other media as they awaited the devastating news that the infamous World Trade Center was attacked by two hijacked airplanes. Soon after, they found that the culprits also attempted to attack the Pentagon. Many say that this event is what brought Americans together and created change in the American society. The most traumatic result of this is the War on Afghanistan.
September 11, 2001 was when the world thought it was over. Just by raising the flag from the ground, it changed the image of America. Not only did the world suffer in fear, families from all over America lost loved ones in this tragedy. Every day, there are cops, firefighters, soldiers, etc., who put their lives on the line to protect citizens and their freedom from the ones who try to destroy that. On this day, thousands of citizens watched their fears happen right in front of their eyes, while the heroes on the ground stood in danger to save the innocent people. This picture represents heroic symbolism of men and women whose lives will never be forgotten. Even with all the hate in the world, the United States still keeps its ground by standing as one, keeping the flag raised to show we can overcome any adversity, a symbolism of freedom, and religion/skin color does not define us.
